January 8, 201412 yr Things often don't generally make me feel old, but I remember when I worked at Oak Brook mall and saw Frank and family often, Sterling was a baby now he has a Twitter!
January 8, 201412 yr QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 10:35 AM) Won't argue with you about Maddux and Pedro, but I'd definitely add Randy Johnson to that. When he was at his peak he was as nasty as I've ever seen. If Jeter is the first 100% I think I would literally vomit. Definitely won't disagree with you on that, I just think Pedro and Maddux were above him even.
January 8, 201412 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 10:03 AM) Here's a guy who needs to be deleted from all future votes. He only voted for Jack Morris. Eliminating everyone from the steroid era because he doesn't know who did and who didn't. How does he know no one from the non steroid eras didn't use a PED? http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10259259...-hall-selection FWIW, I heard an interview with him and he said that he'll probably abstain for the foreseeable future in reaction the the vitriol he has received lol.
January 8, 201412 yr FWIW, I heard an interview with him and he said that he'll probably abstain for the foreseeable future in reaction the the vitriol he has received lol. If that's what he really said then that's the biggest chickens*** answer I've ever heard. He's already planning on not voting for anybody for the next 5+ years. Now he is just using fan reaction as his excuse for doing so.
January 8, 201412 yr Author QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) If that's what he really said then that's the biggest chickens*** answer I've ever heard. He's already planning on not voting for anybody for the next 5+ years. Now he is just using fan reaction as his excuse for doing so. If he doesn't vote at all, aka not turn in a ballot, he doesn't hurt anyone, as his ballot isn't tallied in the percentages. Turning in a blank ballot hurts everyone involved.
January 8, 201412 yr QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 11:08 AM) FWIW, I heard an interview with him and he said that he'll probably abstain for the foreseeable future in reaction the the vitriol he has received lol. He shouldn't have that choice. His should have his voting rights revoked.
January 8, 201412 yr Basically, Frank needs to be on 2 out of 3 of the unknown ballots. Until Jeff Idelson says the Hall welcomes 3 new players (or 4), I'm not 100% confident.
January 8, 201412 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 11:30 AM) He shouldn't have that choice. His should have his voting rights revoked. I agree 100%
January 8, 201412 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 11:30 AM) Basically, Frank needs to be on 2 out of 3 of the unknown ballots. Until Jeff Idelson says the Hall welcomes 3 new players (or 4), I'm not 100% confident. Especially considering the ones who don't have their ballots known generally are older. They are more likely to be on board with holding guys out a year, being DH-biased.... But it is looking pretty likely. Edited January 8, 201412 yr by Dick Allen
January 8, 201412 yr Maddux was almost a yankee and not a brave. http://www.nytimes.com/1992/12/10/sports/b...eel-jilted.html
January 8, 201412 yr Author QUOTE (rangercal @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 11:35 AM) Maddux was almost a yankee and not a brave. http://www.nytimes.com/1992/12/10/sports/b...eel-jilted.html Today a pitcher in Maddux's shoes would make $28 million a year... not over 5 years.
January 8, 201412 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 01:38 PM) Today a pitcher in Maddux's shoes would make $28 million a year... not over 5 years. It is admirable that he took 6 million less to play for the braves. (with Boras as his agent, no less)
January 8, 201412 yr QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 11:57 AM) How long before the 2pm announcement do they start calling the players? I don't know, but that's why I looked up Frank's son's Twitter to see if he gives up anything. He may be getting the call right about now.
January 8, 201412 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 12:30 PM) He shouldn't have that choice. His should have his voting rights revoked. Does anyone know if this has ever happened, and if so for what reason?
January 8, 201412 yr QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 12:02 PM) Does anyone know if this has ever happened, and if so for what reason? didn't Joe Cowley have his BBWAA credentials revoked?
January 8, 201412 yr QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 11:57 AM) How long before the 2pm announcement do they start calling the players? I would say the phone call would be any time now.
January 8, 201412 yr QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 12:08 PM) didn't Joe Cowley have his BBWAA credentials revoked? I think the Chicago chapter suspended them for a year or so because he wasn't taking the MVP voting seriously. Apparently he thought it would be cute to screw around, bring some attention to himself (shocking considering he is Joe Cowley) and it wound up messing with the end result.
January 8, 201412 yr QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 12:12 PM) I would say the phone call would be any time now. I bet the calls were made several hours ago.
January 8, 201412 yr I'm so nervous. I know it's looking good but it's the older voters I worry about. C'mon, do something right.
January 8, 201412 yr QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 12:26 PM) I'm so nervous. I know it's looking good but it's the older voters I worry about. C'mon, do something right. I hope the only questions are: Will Biggio sneak in? Will Palmeiro and Sosa fall off the ballot?
