There's the big move. Close up the winter meetings and head home.

Just a guess but coming off TJ surgery and being 30, my guess is the Sox convert him to a reliever. Just a hunch.

Good to see more activity. I like this signing and Paulino's enthusiasm over it.

So 40 man is full now with Bellasario and Paulino, right?

According to this, Bellisario made it 38, so is should be its 39 now.

Not if they signed him to a minor league contract, which is a distinct possibility.

I believe so but the way Hahn spoke over the weekend we will probably see a trade this week so it could very well drop back down again.

Love this guy. Always have. Throws mid-90s with minimal effort. Above average command.

IF he can pitch, he'll pitch well.

Is this an ode to our FO's use of sabermetrics or their love for power arms?

Probably both.

Power arms. I'm sure you remember Aardsma, MacDougal and co.

"Sabermetric stats like FIP (3.54) and xFIP (3.93) suggest that from 2010-12, Paulino was vastly better than his ERA would indicate."

Pretty much. It makes a lot of sense though. Can never have enough organizational depth at SP, and best case scenario is that he can be a productive 7th inning guy.

According to the press release it is a major league deal (1.75m) with an option for 2015.

*shrug*

So this is the end for Floyd then? No "let's hope his rehab turns out ok while he consumes a 40 man roster spot and we get no value added to the team until he is ready" contract for ol' Gavin?

1 year/1.75 mil with a 4 mil option for 2015 (250K buyout)

Sounds like a major league deal, so the 40-man is up to 39 incl. Belisario.

WHITE SOX AGREE TO TERMS WITH RIGHT-HANDER FELIPE PAULINO

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox and right-handed pitcher Felipe Paulino have agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.75-million contract, which includes a club option for 2015.

Under terms of the agreement, Paulino will receive $1.5 million in 2014, while the White Sox hold a $4-million club option for 2015, which includes a $250,000 buyout.

Paulino, 30, spent the 2013 season in the Kansas City Royals organization, combining to go 0-3 with a 6.51 ERA (20 ER/27.2 IP) over seven starts during injury rehabilitation assignments between Class AA Northwest Arkansas and Class AAA Omaha. Paulino made his season debut on June 11 after undergoing ulnar collateral ligament replacement surgery on his right elbow on July 3, 2012.

The 6-foot-3, 270-pound Paulino was 3-1 with a 1.67 ERA (7 ER/37.2 IP) and 39 strikeouts over seven starts with the Royals in 2012 before undergoing surgery. He limited opponents to an .065 average (2-31) with RISP and left-handers to a .190 mark (16-84) overall.

Paulino, a native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, is 13-32 with a 4.93 ERA (211 ER/385.1 IP) and 359 strikeouts in 93 career appearances (61 starts) over five major-league seasons with Houston (2007, 2009-10), Colorado (2011) and Kansas City (2011-12).

Paulino began his professional career with the Astros after signing as a free agent on July 2, 2001. From 2006-08, he was rated by Baseball America as having the Best Fastball in the Houston system.

With the move, the White Sox 40-man roster is at 38.

Adding depth for a trade for Quintana/Santiago? That's what methinks.

Oh yes

6' 3'', 270? That's a big dude.

He has been terrible in his career as a reliever.

I'm OK with going into the spring only needing one of Rienzo or Johnson to be in the major league rotation.

I like this move, as quality depth in the rotation gives Hahn more options.
