January 29, 201412 yr http://deadspin.com/a-complete-roundup-of-...de-p-1511569573 Basically the article takes a look at each fanbase's proposal to acquire Price. Here's the Sox write up Last year, the White Sox were the only team whose fans seemed to accept that they weren't getting Stanton. Whereas every other team had one crazy commenter who was willing to put a proposal out there, White Sox fans were resigned to tweeting, "We don't have the assets." A trade for Price was so far off the fanbase's radar that I couldn't even find someone saying that they weren't going to get him. So in lieu of an actual trade offer, here's Darius Rucker singing, "I Got Nothin." Between this, nothing about Stanton and the ESPN guys say every fan base overrates their own prospects, except for the Sox, I'd like to think we have a more realistic take on things compared to others. But really it is probably just the extreme pessimism.

January 29, 201412 yr I posted it in Diamond Club too. I said in that thread, there are some meat head fans, but I genuinely think that Sox fans on the internet are some of the most reasonable and well schooled fans in all of sports.

If anything we are more negative than most.
January 29, 201412 yr QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 02:23 PM) If anything we are more negative than most. I went to a game at USCF with a bunch of my friends who are Cardinals fans. They couldn't believe how bad the fans got onto the Sox players, mostly Dunn.

January 29, 201412 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 01:37 PM) For what we would have to give to get Price, it makes zero sense for the Sox. It doesn't make sense for most teams. Price has only 2 years left. Rays are contenders. They need a haul to part with him but no non-contender is going to give anywhere near a haul for 2 years. There's just a big gap between what he's worth to the RAys and what he's worth to most teams.
January 29, 201412 yr Insane how many people think you can trade draft picks. These aren't even baseball fans, lol.
January 29, 201412 yr QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 03:22 PM) Insane how many people think you can trade draft picks. These aren't even baseball fans, lol. I haven't met a single baseball fan in real life that's as intelligent about baseball as some of ones I've come across online. A lot of them don't know a lot about sabermetrics (expected) and some even tell me anecdotes that aren't even remotely true. I guess it's a lot easier to sound smarter when you can Google before you post. However, I've caught quite a few errors when talking to baseball fans in real life. It's not that they're not fans, they probably just don't pay as much attention to the game as some of us do. Edited January 29, 201412 yr by chw42
January 29, 201412 yr QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 03:27 PM) I haven't met a single baseball fan in real life that's as intelligent about baseball as some of ones I've come across online. That's what makes talking baseball so hard with anyone. There are a couple of guys I can seriously talk football with for hours and hours and hours. Baseball? "Baseball SUCKS!" It's just giving me s***, but they genuinely care very little about baseball.

It's not like AJ Pierzynski ever did anything to the Twins, but Twins fans still view him as a traitorous asshole who is representative of everything that is evil.

Everyone was sure the Sox would wipe out both teams' minor league systems at the trade deadline.

Everyone was sure the Sox would wipe out both teams' minor league systems at the trade deadline. But that was mostly based on the overrating or overvaluing of Alexei Ramirez and/or Rios, right?
January 30, 201412 yr QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 07:04 PM) But that was mostly based on the overrating or overvaluing of Alexei Ramirez and/or Rios, right? Yes, this is true, misread the first post. That was a case of overvaluing their MLB players' trade value. I don't follow prospects at all, but this board has taught me that every Sox prospect always sucks.

The Pirates system cleaning was banking on the Pirates being desperate for a RF and SS to make the playoffs for the first time in f***-ever.

January 30, 201412 yr QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 01:14 AM) Maybe the Cards and Pirates should've parted with some prospects since neither won the World Series True story. I believe the Cards crappy shortstop made a huge error too.

January 30, 201412 yr There are natually going to be some offers that are ridiculous - the Sox were never going to get Gregor Polanco for Alex Rios - for Alen Henson and an arm wasn't beyond the realm of possibility. It just didn't come together. I think there was some smoke for Alexei to the Cardinals too, but the thought was that the Cards were offering Carlos Martinez and touting him as a starter while most view him as a reliever without the build to hold up as a starter. In the end, those two just couldn't come to any sort of agreement, and now the Cards are going to be running out Peralta.
