A trade for Price was so far off the fanbase's radar that I couldn't even find someone saying that they weren't going to get him. So in lieu of an actual trade offer, here's Darius Rucker singing, "I Got Nothin."

For what we would have to give to get Price, it makes zero sense for the Sox.

I posted it in Diamond Club too. I said in that thread, there are some meat head fans, but I genuinely think that Sox fans on the internet are some of the most reasonable and well schooled fans in all of sports.

I went to a game at USCF with a bunch of my friends who are Cardinals fans. They couldn't believe how bad the fans got onto the Sox players, mostly Dunn.

At least we're not that dumb.

For what we would have to give to get Price, it makes zero sense for the Sox.

It doesn't make sense for most teams.

Price has only 2 years left. Rays are contenders. They need a haul to part with him

 

but no non-contender is going to give anywhere near a haul for 2 years.

 

There's just a big gap between what he's worth to the RAys and what he's worth to most teams.

I haven't met a single baseball fan in real life that's as intelligent about baseball as some of ones I've come across online.

 

A lot of them don't know a lot about sabermetrics (expected) and some even tell me anecdotes that aren't even remotely true. I guess it's a lot easier to sound smarter when you can Google before you post. However, I've caught quite a few errors when talking to baseball fans in real life. It's not that they're not fans, they probably just don't pay as much attention to the game as some of us do.

Yes, this is true, misread the first post. That was a case of overvaluing their MLB players' trade value. I don't follow prospects at all, but this board has taught me that every Sox prospect always sucks.

The Pirates system cleaning was banking on the Pirates being desperate for a RF and SS to make the playoffs for the first time in f***-ever.

Yes and many of us believed that the White Sox would pay a big chunk of $$ to receive better prospects in return.

There are natually going to be some offers that are ridiculous - the Sox were never going to get Gregor Polanco for Alex Rios - for Alen Henson and an arm wasn't beyond the realm of possibility. It just didn't come together. I think there was some smoke for Alexei to the Cardinals too, but the thought was that the Cards were offering Carlos Martinez and touting him as a starter while most view him as a reliever without the build to hold up as a starter. In the end, those two just couldn't come to any sort of agreement, and now the Cards are going to be running out Peralta.
