February 27, 201511 yr Author QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 08:42 AM) David Robertson Zach Duke That's your short list of guys who are guaranteed spots in the bullpen. Barring injury, I'd say that Perticka and Jennings are also locks.
February 27, 201511 yr QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 09:53 AM) thanks. this maybe the strongest this pen has been, how would you compare it to the 2005 pen. Until the actual season happened youd have expected the 05 pen to be weak. He'll their closer out of ST didn't last a month and they went through 3 Closers.
February 27, 201511 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 09:58 AM) Barring injury, I'd say that Perticka and Jennings are also locks. I think they are likely to make it, but there are situations I can see where they wouldn't keep them. Jennings is basically a flyer despite having put up good numbers previously because the club obviously wasn't high on Rienzo, so I don't think there's attachment there. Petricka has option and if he has no command, I don't think they are married to the idea of him being in the pen. Literally, the short list for guaranteed bullpen pitchers are Robertson and Duke.

March 6, 201511 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 09:58 AM) Barring injury, I'd say that Perticka and Jennings are also locks. And I think our best reliever from last year deserves to be in our bullpen as well...

March 6, 201511 yr QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 01:12 PM) And I think our best reliever from last year deserves to be in our bullpen as well... Petricka also has a good amount of potential to develop even further.
March 6, 201511 yr QUOTE (staxx @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 01:21 PM) Petricka also has a good amount of potential to develop even further. Petricka had a rough end to the season, but I'd still take Putnam over him.
March 6, 201511 yr QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 01:19 PM) Adam Dunn retired. Michael Jordan, Roger Clemens, and Brett Favre also "retired." Don't give up hope.

March 15, 201511 yr I believe that there were 76 relievers in MLB that averaged at least a K per inning. The Sox had 1 - and that was Cleto in limited duty. (veal, too, in 6IP). The guys were young, so they can improve; but I also don't think we had many "must carry" on that staff last year. As for Crain, he hasn't pitched in nearly 2 years and is 34. Even if he does come back, at what level of effectiveness will he deliver?

March 16, 201511 yr QUOTE (Mike F. @ Mar 15, 2015 -> 07:29 PM) No one really knows at this point, but chances are extremely high that he'll be better than Belisario/Downs/Francisco/Veal/Snodgrass were last year. He was better than them last season when he didn't get in a game. Right now, he isn't better than those guys if he were put on the mound. Hopefully he gets back up to snuff but I believe he had a shoulder injury, and you saw how it changed John Danks. Crain's recovery is taking longer. I wouldn't expect the 2012 Jesse Crain to emerge this season. If it does, it's a huge bonus, but to think he will be anything more than a mediocre 6th or 7th inning guy this year is really pushing it IMO. Apparently it was bicep surgery. Here is an article from March 22 last year. He thought he would be game ready at the end of April or the beginning of May. http://blog.chron.com/ultimateastros/2014/...ury/#21129101=0 Edited March 16, 201511 yr by Dick Allen
