Like Rob did with second base, we now take a look at the 5-player field for backup catcher: Soto, Brantly, Kottaras, Nieto and Smith.

Who does SoxTalk think wins the job? Probably more to the point, who is most likely if for some reason it isn't Soto?

Soto but if he's hurt Kottaras or Brantly.

Im rooting for Brantly and Kottaras.

It would be beneficial to have another left handed bat on the bench.

"Want" is a strong word, but if Soto is hurt, I'm rooting for Brantly.

I'd love to have Nieto break out this Spring.

No one on Smith I see. There was a twitter follower of the FS account who said he was "calling it" that Smith would win the backup job.

Surprised to not see more love for Kottaras

Eh. I see a whole bunch of slop behind Flowers. Hopefully they can not hurt us for 30-40 games. Soto is the biggest name, but his fall brings more questions than answers.

George Kottaras has such a great name, rooting for him

If Soto is healthy he will be the backup.

Hahn has said this plenty of times so this is my thought as well.

Honestly, if Soto is healthy he could steal a lot of playing time from Flowers, especially if Tyler doesn't put a .355 BABIP again.
