Hard to believe they'd claim him and then expose him to waivers again in a week.

If he doesn't make the Opening Day team out of Spring Training, is he exposed to waivers again?

Yes sir.

Yes sir.

That is such a tough spot for Ventura/Cooper to be in. They'll barely have any time to work with Drabek, but they'll have to make a decision on him very quickly.

Since the two teams haven't played (AZ vs. FLA) in spring training, they've either been watching him for a LONG time (and jumped when he became available) or they've been doing so thorough scouting work this March...or some combination of both.

I also have an additional question. If they have him on the team to start the season but then send him down at some point, is he still exposed to waivers then? Is it like the Nieto case last year where if the Sox would've sent him down, the Nationals could've claimed him back?

Outside of the disabled list, as far as I know yes, the Sox would have to pass him through waivers to be able to send him to AAA. If they want to hold him he needs a 25 man roster spot.

This is only because he's out of options (used in '11, '13 & '14), Nieto's situation was different, he was a rule V draft pick, so if the Sox wanted to send him down they'd have to offer him back to the Nationals first.

And it really sounds like he is destined for the pen. I wonder if we could see our next Noesi project at some point?

Charlotte rotation could actually be pretty fun with Rodon, Drabek, Beck, and Johnson.

Fun and Erik Johnson used in the same sentence. :(
