Just got DFA'd by the Marlins today. Owed 7 million this year and 8 million next year.

Would you take a chance with him? I know for one I wanted him a couple off seasons ago.

He is awful. Worst pitch framer in baseball, hits worse than Flowers.

If he clears waivers why not.

Wow.

That's one I got wrong. I wanted to sign him.

No thanks. If Flowers fails, I'd feel better about Soto starting than I would Saltalamacchia at this point.

Who is the GM who engineered that signing? He's right up there with the Phillies GM.

He really has fallen off of a cliff the last two years. Would a change of scenery help? Heck for minimum wage, it couldn't hurt.

What a Marlins move. Dude takes a below market deal to play for his hometown team and they drop him after a slow start to the season. Ouch.

Really? Dude was terrible last season too. They just decided to cut their losses since they have a top prospect that they would rather give that playing time to. I don't think you can categorize this with the other nonsense they Marlins have pulled over the last few years.

Between him and TFlo, it appears Atlanta sure knows how and when to sell high on its catching prospects.

Something that would almost be too ideal would be a deal with Danks going to Miami, with the Sox picking up no money

Why would that be ideal? How is Salty an upgrade? Not only can't he hit, he is regarded as the worst pitch framer in baseball by both methods.

Salty isn't good enough to be on the White Sox. I understand saving money, but Danks has been pretty good his last couple starts. The Sox aren't cash starved. No reason to dump a pitcher just to save money.

Also guilty here. Fooled by his 40 doubles season in Boston.

A lot of people were fooled. I think his BABIP was .372 his free agent season. Kind of like Flowers last year.

I'd be more intrigued giving Kevan Smith a shot if an injury comes.

John Danks hasn't had a "pretty good" season since 2010, and you are looking to make room for Carlos Rodon. It isn't that difficult.

Rodon has an innings limit. Then you are stuck, assuming no other injuries with Johnson, Beck or Montas. If you are in contention, that could be a problem. If it were for a player who could help you, fine. But Salty isn't as good as Flowers or Geo.

I was sure as hell wrong about him. I really, really wanted the Sox to pick him up. Believed in bad reports about his defense being good.

The difference between John Danks and Carlos Rodon is worth it even if you need a few weeks of another starter, and Salty doesn't rebound. Not to mention it frees up $7 million each season that could be used to bring in another player to help you. The tough part wouldn't be convincing Rick Hahn, it would be convincing Jeff Loria.

I would bet anything Hahn wouldn't do that.

He wouldn't trade the guy who has been one of the worst starting pitchers in all of baseball and still owed nearly $30 million on a lottery ticket owed half of that amount of money when he has one of the best prospects in all of baseball here to take that starting pitchers job? He'd be a damned fool if he wouldn't. Hell he could release Salty and it would be a positive to open a job for Rodon and free up a lot of payroll simultaenously.

It doesn't sound like a "win right now" move to me but at the same time we've got Phil Rogers appearing in posts speculating on Danks to the Cardinals.

Rodon>Danks is the very definition of a WIN NOW move.

John Danks pitched better yesterday than I've seen him pitch in like two years, and he STILL gave up two bombs.

I continue to fundamentally disagree with this assessment.
