Could you root for Sox losses

I don't ever proactively root for them to lose, no. The losses are hard to watch but much easier to stomach when you know there's a clear path ahead, though.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 05:11 PM) He failed as a 33 year old head coach and even then he did have a .500 season followed by a bad year with Tebow/Orton at QB (and the .500 year was with Orton IIRC). I think he was one of those people who if he looks back, probably learned a lot from that experience and should be in a great position to be a really good head coach. And while he handled the Cutler thing wrong...was he really wrong on Cutler? At the time, he had absolutely no basis for believing anything one way or the other about Cutler, that was purely his ego. In '09 Cutler had everything going for him, had the support of his coaches and his management who knew what he needed to succeed to coach bad habits out of him and then he went to the Bears, who thought he was a finished product and didn't really even bother trying. Ted Sundquist wrote a comprehensive piece about where Cutler was at in his career just before the trade: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2580349...ened-from-there

I really don't think the Cowboys, or anyone else, actually realized they drafted Tony Romo's immediate replacement. Almost everyone who's pretending they knew Prescott would be as productive as he's been is just lying. But let everyone tell it, it was so obvious and Ryan Pace just didn't see it.

    STAR WARS Everything

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) I liked that review. Terrible title. But what I get from it is this movie gets away from things like entire planets being blown to bits as a shallow plot device and instead to the brutality that would spawn such a longstanding resistance. This is a war movie. The others are adventure movies. Yeah, I agree, it was actually a good review. But the title is just begging to be mocked.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 02:01 PM) I don't know. I think a lot of us thought when they traded up in the 4th to land Kwiatkowski it was going to be Dak. And a lot of the "internet helium" picks have turned out to be pretty good players. I'm not saying it's an incorrect assessment, I'm saying it's verbally jacking off.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 12:38 PM) Have any recent Texas Tech quarterbacks had success in the NFL? A bit cautions about some of these "scheme" QBs in college, where anyone steps in and dominates. The whole college game is like that really, it's hard to scout QBs because what they do in college is almost always nothing like what they'll do in the pros

    President-Elect Donald Trump: The Thread

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 10:58 AM) Everyone realizes that managing oil and gas reserves, what Rick Perry would do in Texas, is not what is done by the department of Energy correct? Nuclear weapons, electricity grid, etc? The part dealing with oil and gas extraction is under Interior a lot. By "everyone" you mean the Trump team right? I would say "no, I don't think they do" but I think Perry not knowing is also the point.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 10:29 AM) All Republicans will fall into line when it comes time to approve all these cabinet positions. I would be shocked otherwise. I also doubt the Democratic party will do much to stop it. A few will, but probably not enough. Democrats will try to block it but as a party, that's just not how they roll. Republicans are basically all interchangeable and can fall in line when the party's official position dictates they do so. There's no such thing for Democrats.

The current guy in that position has a PhD in theoretical physics, the guy before him also did, and had a Nobel Prize, the guy before that in the Republican administration had a Doctor of Science from MIT. And then there's Rick Perry. Get the entire f*** out of here.

I did some upgrades on my PC, so I installed Steam so I can play some games on it again. I started making a username and password since I haven't been on in forever, and the name I picked was taken. WHO THE HELL HAS MY USERNAME?! NOBODY EVER USES IT!!! Oh... me... in 2007. Half-Life 2 is still on there. I see.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 04:15 PM) Peter Parker as a young teenager is a fresh story, in the terms of the films. Both Garfield and McGuire played Peter Parker in his senior year of high school, when he's about to graduate. Plus, I prefer Peter the teen to Peter the adult There is literally no difference between Spider-Man as a sophomore in high school and a senior in terms of storytelling - that's what I mean though, if we're doing that story, then why not Miles Morales? Peter Parker is an adult college graduate who's been fully independent for several years.

I'd bet money that it's not because the HDMI standard was brand new then, so yeah, your original solution is probably the route you need to take

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 12:16 PM) They just. Keep. Rebooting. The fact that Peter Parker was some dumb s*** kid in Civil War instead of a man facing one of the most important decisions of his life really made no sense. BUT WE MUST ALWAYS INTRODUCE THESE CHARACTERS AS BRAND NEW. There's no reason they couldn't have had some dumbass newspaper montage of Spider-Man over the years and had Iron Man meet with some grizzled 30's something Peter Parker with support from a smoking hot Mary Jane. But NOPE. Lather, rinse, repeat. Start with the origin. The Peter Parker I know and love is a f***ing hilarious and confident man. Plus you will never do better than Tobey Maguire as young Peter anyway. AND NOW PETER DEALS WITH BEING A NERD IN HIGH SCHOOL FOR THREE MOVIES BEFORE WE REBOOT HIM AGAIN One of the key moments in the original Civil War comic was when he took off his mask and said "My name is Peter Parker. I've been Spider-Man since I was fifteen years old." His appearance in the Civil War movie was a cool fan service, but otherwise added nothing to the actual plot.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) This is posted on AVS fourms as well but thought I might ask some of you guys in here. Just got my first Smart TV (Sony XBR X850D) If your TV and stereo both use HDMI ARC, and you are using a new enough HDMI cable (if it's less than, say, 5 years old, it will be) then your HDMI signal is bi-directional. Your TV does, that was easy enough to google, but I don't know if your receiver does. Look at your HDMI ports, see if they say "ARC" next to them. edit: I didn't notice you already said your receiver is old, my bad. So you probably already know this, lol

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 12:02 PM) If you're counting on Paul Ryan to save this country's soul, he's made it very clear he'll sacrifice that for lower taxes. And if you're counting on the Supreme Court to save it...we saved Donald Trump a seat so that they won't save it. Our institutions, the norms, the rule of law don't matter when people stop enforcing those things as a tradeoff to get what they want. My post I made just below this may as well be this exact post too.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 11:47 AM) Honestly, a President even openly musing or trying to pre-justify prison camps for Muslims in the year 2016 should be grounds for impeachment. eta: or when he calls for the execution of people who were exonerated by DNA evidence years after their exoneration, which got surprisingly less coverage than EMAILS OMG EMAILS this year. There are provisions for preventing abuses of power in the Constitution, but they're only effective if the other government branches are willing to enforce it. Paul Ryan is a coward, and I don't find much reason to trust the Supreme Court, especially since Trump will get to appoint who he wants now (rightfully Obama's appointment, but again, only to the extent other branches cooperate).

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 10:51 AM) Is Trump becoming a true authoritarian the most likely course of his presidency? No. Being a bad president is. Being a good president is also a possibility. But just because it's unlikely doesn't mean you open up the putin toolbox for him and say "Hey, be good with these. I trust you". It's the exact reason we have civilian control of the armed forces and things like that.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 10:43 AM) You're saying it COULD happen and then pointing to what history has shown us about authoritarian regimes. You're implicitly saying Trump is following that same path, not that he COULD. If it's not a legitimate fear of yours there's little reason to point it out. I see the argument you're making here, and it's not really without merit, but here's the thing - this even being a discussion with Trump is itself unprecedented, at least for modern presidents. This isn't normal and we are pushing back against normalizing it.

It's just kind of funny though, we just had a whole ass summer where Clinton was being ripped for innuendo about what she might do because of all her connections here and there and then Trump turns around and literally does those exact things he blasted her for, and the collective reaction is basically "yeah, but..."
