I also like the theory of the Dodgers throwing in a block on a potential playoff opponent knowing that they would likely go over if they took on his salary, something the Nats wouldn't just do. Would have been interesting to see them blink and let him go as a claim and the Dodgers finishing the year over the luxury tax, something they were trying to reset this year. Looks like Harper has somewhere around $5 million left to be paid this year. Their payroll looks to be $194.2 million at this point for the 2018 season. Not sure how accurate that is, as it comes from Sportrac, but that would have put them over the $197 million figure from the looks of it. Just like their last deal, it woud need to include an MLB player to offset some of the salary, and in this case would have had to clear waivers as well.
