9-11 since the trade deadline. Sox are lucky the Guardians are 9-10 in the same stretch, but have just improved their play recently. I don’t think Bonemer would be any sort of savior but they are going to have to play better than this to hold off the Guardians.

Vargas’ future is equally important, but it doesn’t by definition have to be decided in 2027.

One thing's for sure in my mind, even if he's struggling, Venable has to stop wasting Castillo start days. Let him get lit up for 20 for all i care if it helps the bullpen the next few days. That, or stack the bullpen with nothing but starters.

you might be right. I didn't mind their deadline, but in hindsight, for me at least, it's a deadline that says "We're the Dodgers or Phillies or Yankees", not "We're the White Sox". The White Sox haven't established they are a playoff team yet. They needed larger upgrades. With that stated, Getz may have just wanted to hold onto as many top guys as he could to get another year of "what do we have". Or, because he knew the lockout was coming and he was ordered by ownership to keep payroll as lean as possible while considering Mune was getting an extension.

Still not sure how it's an advantage in any way to have control over Castillo Brazoban Bart and Doyle. Rentals would have been better with Bonemer and Cholowsky on the way. Could have turned B.Smith/M.Adams/Vielma into a better option than Castillo.

Colson I dunno. He looks completely lost. I think the others should rebound though. They also need to figure out what to do with bases loaded. That's been embarrassing lately. It'll probably correct itself though.

Bart isn't necessary a rental either. He isn’t a free agent until 2028. They could obviously non-tender him but he’s arbitration eligible in the upcoming offseason

Outside of Bonemer, there wasn’t a single prospect at the deadline that should have been untouchable. It can’t be overstated how much the terrible pitching development has crippled this roster. Guys like Newcomb and Taylor have been incredible picking up the slack.

And payroll flexibility next year

They're not trading a Top 20-30 prospect in milb. Only Skubal fetched that for Zhyhir...who was still only their fourth best OF prospect, and third best on AA team.

Good stuff…I will say thought that taking a step at the big picture for rest of the season, it doesn’t matter who they acquired at the deadline, if Colson, Mune, Meidroth and Antonacci continue to perform this way, they won’t make the postseason. Batting average is clearly not as important as it used to be, but they’re hitting .229 as a team since the ASB. It’s really coming into play lately with RISP.

So if there was no series of trades that make this team a legit contender without trading their top prospects, I’ll take back Boston Smith, Mason Adams, etc., cuz the guys Getz got for them stink. I’d rather have the younger guys back.

I had no memory of that, so when I heard it tonight, I was stunned.

Every team reloads in the off-season. There is no guarantee that the Sox will get beck to where they are now next season or perhaps not for years to come. Getz and JR should have went for it. They didn't.

Detroit also collapsed in September and went 7–17. If we go 7-17 in September then yeah we're gonna lose the division.

But that's not what they were going for. They weren't looking for rentals and I don't blame them because rentals are a crap shoot - the one they did go for out of dire need broke his hand after 3 games. It also was going to be REALLY hard to get 2 or 3 starters of any note at the deadline, plus a better outfielder, plus a catcher, without completely draining the minors. Foster Griffin is probably the guy they missed out on the hardest.

How close is he going to get to a sub .200 batting avg and/or a sub .700 OPS? Only 6 HRs in July and Aug. This could be part of his adjustment and growth as a MLB player, but nonetheless, I'm glad the Sox have other excellent options in the pipeline who can play SS.

Castillo, Urquidy and Brazoban were the best they could do? And Doyle? A golden chance to win a Division championship seems like it may be evaporating before our eyes - that would be a sad ending for one of the best White Sox seasons in a long while.

They were 12 games back last year at this time.
