I just don’t really get this idea of not trying to get good players. People are panicking over Boston Smith meanwhile the dodgers get this weird world where we act like river Ryan at 45 years old is still a prospect in trading for an actual impact starter. Some weird collusion in baseball that we play along to dodgers prospects being good.

I’m going on a limb here, but I will predict the Sox trade Wolkow for a rental catcher. Feels like there are a handful of guys they are looking to cash in on and Boston was one and George is another.

Incorrect. That's Merrill Kelly money. Starters cost so much money on the open market. I'm not saying Castillo is some big surplus value, but a short term FA deal for a starter will cost a ton for a guy who will not excite you much.

Dodgers are hamstrung in multiple ways with respect to building up prospect capital but they are simply very good at baseball talent evaluation/development so everyone gets to be mad at them.

Do they realize "controllable" is a bad thing if youre not worth the money on the contract? He needs to perform like an ace to be worth that price.

He struck out 3, walked two, and gave up 2 HR’s in 7 innings. He must have induced some weak contact outside of the two bombs as the xERA was really good, but that is ugly from a FIP perspective. The lack of strikeouts is what concerns me. Hopefully there is a fix for that because he’s going to struggle if it sticks around 6 per 9 like it has the last two months.

Just watched the Sox Machine podcast on the deal. Fegen said his White Sox sources told him they zeroed in on Castillo because "He's controllable, he has a vested option through 2028." Take it for what it's worth. In 2028 by the way Castillo will be 35 years old.

A lot of Castillo love in this Locked of Mariners podcast going over the trade: I’m only about 20% into it so they may start dumping on him but so far they’re just gushing.
