  1. Past hour
  2. Eh, Schriffen is better. I heard he has a big offer on the table to do play-by-play for Slamball again.
  3. January 6, 1964 – The White Sox revealed their new road uniforms, a bold powder-blue that departed from traditional gray. The South Siders thereby kick-started a road uniform look that lasted for two decades across Major League Baseball. The base powder blue had navy blue accents trimmed in white. January 6, 2005 - Needing catching help, Sox G.M. Ken Williams took a gamble and inked catcher A.J. Pierzynski to a free agent contract. A.J., who had a reputation as a ‘clubhouse cancer’ turned out to be a model teammate and his contributions to the 2005 World Series champs, would be incalculable. Sox announcer Ken “Hawk” Harrelson pitched A.J. to the front office since he knew him for a number of years (both lived in Orlando, Florida) and got the organization to take the chance. Two of the most memorable A.J. moments took place in 2005. The first came on June 18 when he hit an opposite field home run to cap a four run ninth inning as the Sox beat the Dodgers 5-3. The Sox were wearing 1959 replica uniforms for the game. The second and far more important moment, came on October 12, the second game of the A.L.C.S. With the Sox down a game to the Angels and tied in the ninth, Pierzynski struck out then started running to first base as former Sox player Josh Paul, the Angels catcher, rolled the ball back towards the mound thinking the inning was over. A.J. thought the ball hit the dirt and was trapped which required a put out at first base. Umpire Doug Eddings agreed and Pierzynski got the base. The play led to the eventual winning run, evening the best of seven series which the Sox went on to win in five games to get to their first World Series since 1959. Another 'classic' A.J. moment came on May 20, 2006 during a Cubs/Sox game at U.S. Cellular Field. Scoring the first run in an eventual 7-0 Sox win, A.J. got tangled up with catcher Michael Barrett and went back to touch home plate. As he was doing so, he bumped Barrett which resulted in the Cub player losing it and sucker punching him. Four players wound up being ejected in the fight. A.J. would play for the franchise from 2005-2012.

  5. They've pretty much stated their preference. One of the implied rigors of being paid $20M a year to play baseball is that the player may have to endure trade rumors. I trust that Getz is keeping Robert apprised of the market and the team's goals.
  6. Here's the thing. All of the teams who could use a Luis Robert are still very convinced that all it will take is a fairly mediocre offer to get him, and Chris Getz has done literally nothing publicly to dissuade teams and fans alike that Getz is either willing to move Robert, or needs to move Robert. While it can be argued that the fans might not be in the best position to know what Chris Getz is willing to do, his fellow GMs sure have an opinion that doesn't match this at all./
  7. Robert isn't part of the extended future of this team. I can understand moving any of the players on this roster (except Monty and Teel) for a return that sets the Sox up better than the traded player does. To me, keeping him makes more sense than trading him for a minor league bullpen arm.
  8. This, after signing Murakami it really made no sense to trade Robert. And if the Sox were to trade him for an underwhelming return and he explodes with a new team, I’ll speak for myself, I’d be pissed because we all knew what his potential is.
  9. Its worrisome - also I kind of laugh at all of the get rid of DA so we keep Al Harris. Yes, our DBs had a good number of picks - but Stevenson isn't even hitting the field anymore (unless its his hip), Brisker has been healthy but not making any impact plays, JJ (injuries) but he has been his worse...yeah we got something out of Wright but I don't see it the same way others do. I'm not knocking Harris either - but I don't think he has done anything amazing either.
  10. Most GMs who sign players to keep them, make it clear to the marketplace, fans, and player that they are here to stay. The only "nonsensical narratives" that need to end, are the ones that shift every debate to "what makes Getz look best".
  11. The Kansas House Speaker confirms that the state is no longer pursuing the Royals. https://www.ksnt.com/news/local-news/kansas-officials-no-longer-pursuing-new-royals-stadium-in-the-sunflower-state/
  12. I texted my friend I have this vision of Matthew Golden getting a 45 yard streaking touchdown over Wright to secure a 20-16 win. Seems so much like every packer game - the random no one getting a deep ball catch esp after bear fans keep gloating about golden.
  13. On The Score, Patrick Mannelly is basically saying he is scared that the Packers are going to target the hell out of Nahshon Wright because he gets burned so bad.
  14. Wow. I've so gotten into your head that you now think your thoughts are actually mine? LOL. Buy a guy a drink, first. The choice here seems to be that either Chris Getz and the entire White Sox front office are so completely in over their heads that they are regularly misjudging the market for Luis Robert, or Robert's their CF this off-season, and they'll move him for a non-trivial return. I can understand how breaking nonsensical narratives down to simple realities confounds you, since you're the one who has chastised the entire board for not being embarrassed enough that you thought Vinny Capra and Oliver Dunn are better players than Shane Smith because the Brewers rostered them while exposing Smith to the Rule 5 draft. I prefer to run with the explanation that requires fewer yoga classes for pretzel-shape twisting. Seriously, before you start typing "make it make sense", or "I'm just laughing at...", consider that for multiple trade deadlines and offseasons, the Sox have entertained trade talk for Robert, and wound up keeping him. A rational person might surmise that Getz looked at the offers and decided that plugging Robert back into CF is worth more to the team than the unsatisfactory package or return the market is offering. If you really think that Getz is receiving offers that are worth more than playing Robert, it's incumbent upon you to tell me something more about these offers you know exist instead of pretending to be laughing.
  15. so wild to me that Quinn soured on Kliff. That offense still had juice despite the terrible injuries. I'm assuming him and Jayden stopped getting along or something? If I'm Joe Schoen I'm putting my keys in his hands.
  16. I think it was comin regardless...hell wasn't the story that Colts were moving on from him had Bears not hired him? I thought he did a decent job with our defense, but there is a low ceiling. Biggest issue is when you have a good offense, like he did in Dallas, his defense doesn't get the ball back to them (see Bears game where we had a like 12 minute drive in the third that iced the game). But when your offense is bad, it made it look like the games were 'close' because he limits the possessions. I don't think NFL offensive head coaches want a philosophy that limits their opportunities to score, and it's gonna be an issue for him. He also just never seemed to have good Dline play in terms of pass pressure. Extremely annoying how good Al Quadin Muhammed looks in seattle when he was absolute toast under flus. Maybe they thought that ayo guy would have same impact here but key is to avoid any indianapolis defensive lineman.
  17. I’m certainly not making excuses for him lol. It’s kinda crazy that it seems getting a HC job basically ruined Flus’ future job prospects.
  18. Today
  19. That said, go back to lake forest or wherever that was and enjoy a beautiful lake house and chill out, Flus.
  20. I think biggest issue was he got help with Quinnen Williams, they looked decent (against Eagles only), and people got excited, then they were still terrible. Wasn't a great defense personnel wise but I think they are right to expect at least average given what he had and the division they were in.
  21. Luis Robert has been in the rumor mill for 1 1/2 years and all but about 6 months of Chris Getz tenure. Your big picture is the Sox never intended to trade him, and not that the Sox have misread the market for 18 months, which is why they're still holding a bag in the return line years after being dissatisfied with the product. Dec 2024 " Chris Getz told the Chicago Sun-Times’ Daryl Van Schouwen (multiple links) and other reporters that his team has “gotten a lot of interest” in Robert’s services during the Winter Meetings." June 4 2024 "Yes, the White Sox are willing to deal center fielder Luis Robert Jr., who is expected to return from a hip injury this week and is signed through 2027." The last time Robert was "untouchable" was July of 2023 in a hilarious report (looking back on it): "Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports the Sox are prepared to seriously consider offers on all but four players: center fielder Luis Robert Jr., ace Dylan Cease, first baseman Andrew Vaughn and left fielder Eloy Jiménez." Although the above was Hahn. The only time Getz expressed interest in Robert was the off-season after 2023 into 2024. All of the above was actually because Getz wanted to keep Robert motivated by dangling his future by a thread? Or it was Getz trying to make other GM's waste their time calling him?
  22. Yeah, I hadn't seen this yet, and it seems like this should be headline baseball news, and it isn't. Weird.
  23. Which is wild since we have years of precedent here. Also if this was the case, why wouldn't they just say this and stop the trade talks.
  24. Those who subscribe to the hive mind are generally shocked by those who can step back and look at the big picture. You don't have to look on in awe from the outside. I'll bet you have it in you to do it too.
  25. His defense was pretty soft all year but it’s hilarious that Jerry World kneecapped him the week before the season started when they shipped off Parsons
