Illinois High School Football Thread
Any comments about the ending to the St. Rita state title baseball game? Did the catcher have the ball in his mitt long enough? Should the game have ended there? Can you believe Rita shrugged off the blunder and won it anyway? As far as football Harry and Sox2023 is Rice favored to beat Lincoln Way East? Any good transfers coming in? Is that quarterback back and that good lineman? Finally ... my grade school is closed by the diocese. anybody know what happened to queen of martyrs? I have fond memories of grade school followed by 2 years at BR. Lipman do u still follow Rice sports or not interested? Did u enjoy your years there?

I'm ecstatic Sox have won five of last six vs KC I think. Sox have put themselves in position to do what I've been clamoring for them to do for years: That is dominate a weak Central. Sox have so many good young hitters I like the team. I am now a huge Getz fan even though our pitching isn't as good as our hitting. ... It feels weird to be able to post again. After so many months of not being able to log on, I feel I will definitely be way more low key than when I knew a lot about our players/pitchers. I'm not qualified yet to comment much on personnel as I've only watched mlb highlights and not bought the package for 3 seasons now.

This is one of those games that used to (tank years don't count; those are a different animal) send us spiraling. Remember how we could always point to one game that wrecked our team and sent us to series loss after loss? I'm not worried about that with this team. They are young and dumb so to speak and won't let any one game send us spiraling. Tough loss though.

Is soccer replacing all the US major sports (except NFL) in popularity?)
Thanks for the info; i appreciate it. I just have never wanted to go to south america. I've traveled to most of the states in USA but only London overseas plus Canada of course. I just picture myself like the guys in Hangover One. I could see me getting thrown in a trunk of a car or be missing 3 days and tortured. I feel like I should stay put. KU is playing in Vegas this year so I might go to the tourney even tho vegas is now a ripoff IMO.

Wow my soxtalk is working at my place. If I'm back, wow. Thank u so much for this report. I'm gonna send to my family. Thank u. Is Medellin known as a tourist town? Does it make sense that the wedding I think is up in the mountains?

Cartagena and las islas del Rosario in the Caribbean are also genuinely amazing and affordable as well...only major down side is the heat from 10-330 or so in the daytime. And there are lots of truly great Beisbol towns in the North where the Renteria brothers, Shakira and Sofia Vergara are originally from...

".366 career on-base percentage is the highest by an AL shorstop in MLB history through his first three seasons..." That's just a BIT higher than Swanson/Brandon Crawford or even Tulo. And Correa could at least get 12-15 steals per season when he first entered the league.

Interesting that he’s starting in left.

This really concerns me to hear and I hope it isn’t posturing. If we take Emerson and the Rays do indeed pass on Roch, I will immediately feel more confident in the pick. Just really seems tough to pass up on that kid and I’d probably spend a good three plus years obsessing about it.

Correct. I think they're very similar.

I hope they have a great time. Colombia is much safer now than it was in the past. Like most other places in the world, you won't find trouble unless you look for it. Medellin is a relatively modern city and has made strides in its infrastructure after some successful technocratic mayors. I'd only suggest extra vigilance if they plan on partying throughout the night in Medellin. Obviously don't go looking for drugs or follow strange women around, and don't wander off drunk and alone. The countryside will be beautiful for them. Perfect temperature and the mountains around Medellin hold some of the largest flower farms in the world. I think only second behind the Netherlands. I would highly recommend touring some of the farms if they can, or taking some horseback rides like caulfield mentioned. It is truly gorgeous. Many people recommend a tour of Guatape and climbing the Guatape rock is a big tourist activity. It is pretty, but I also found it to be a pain in the ass getting up it, especially on a hot day. Should be mindful that it's a taxing hike if anyone has mobility issues. Lastly, they should gorge themselves on empanadas. They'll salivate the rest of their lives thinking about them 😁

If that is really true then I hope that Emerson is the pick and trust that they know more about Rich / Lackey / Emerson than I do.

2026 First Round Draft Poll
Sounds fucking stupid but considering the southside has a large black community, if Lackey is picked and reaches his ceiling then he will be a total star and Caulfield would be completely right.

From Sun-Times Jeff Agrest's recap: "Davis’ home-road splits are stark. In seven starts at Rate Field, he has an 0.88 ERA with a 0.951 WHIP. In 10 starts on the road, his ERA is 4.72, and his WHIP is 1.48. He allowed two earned runs, six hits and five walks to the Guardians. That said, Davis has allowed two runs or fewer in all but four of his 17 starts — all four were on the road." https://chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/2026/07/02/davis-martin-chicago-white-sox-cleveland-guardians-will-venable-grant-taylor

Cholowsky to Correa isn't a very good comp either. Pre injury Correa was a border line superstar, especially in the post season.

Agreed. I get they want him to be a starter, but this team needs some serious pitching help.

From Merkin's recap: "Cleveland chipped away to cut the margin to 5-4 through seven, before Taylor took the mound. There was a four-pitch walk issued to Steven Kwan with one out, but Taylor got through the eighth with two strikeouts and no runs allowed. Bryan Hudson was unavailable after pitching Wednesday in Baltimore and getting hot in the bullpen two other times, and one-time closer Seranthony Domínguez is being used in lower-leverage situations to get him back on track, although he could have followed Taylor if needed. So, Taylor came back for the ninth and issued a four-pitch, leadoff walk to Rhys Hoskins. An eight-pitch battle with Kahlil Watson resulted in a fly out to center, before Rocchio connected on a 99.3 mph four-seamer up a bit and somewhat outside. “Yeah, I wasn’t landing the curveball earlier,” Taylor said. “I was going to stick to my strength. I have a good fastball, especially against lefties. I threw it in a pretty good location, but he was looking for it and got a good swing.”
