***NEWS-Sox trade for Juan Uribe

Featured Replies

Sox traded Aaron Miles for Juan Uribe. I am not familiar with him coz I havent seen the Rockies play much. He played SS for Colorado.

Uribe batted .253 with 10 HRs in 87 games for the Rockies.

If thats true I'm pumped, but I'm still not decided on whether I like it or not.

At least he has a cool name.

Well this is some pretty big news. I think it shows that they're tryin to do sumthin with Jose and ship him outta here hopefully to LA if they don't sign Matsui. Has any1 got a link to this though?

just saw it scroll across the bottom of ESPN ---

hopefully this means something else is about to get done with Jose.

I like the move. Hopefully Uribe can breakout in Chicago.

Well his numbers are similar to Jose's other than he is much much younger with time to develop. Now we only have Harris and Robbie at second base, maybe another deal is in the works.

Hopefully we get rid of Jose although I don't really think Uribe answers any of our problems. His OBP is lower than Jose's, also made a ton of errors in 2002.

Good hopefully it means Jose is on the move, preferable with Paul Konerko to LA for Perez and, hmmm, well now I don't know before I would have said Izturis, but I don't know, I'd take any of that relief corp of the Dodgers though.

Either Jose is being moved to second or his ass is getting shipped. I believe the latter and would expect a deal involving Jose very soon.

I really don't like the fact that is says that he can play "second and short for the White Sox" on the main page, that may mean Jose is not on the move

I truly hope this isn't the so called "big move" the Sox are going to make this off season.Ho Hum.Another light hitting shortstop. But what should a veteran of the Reinsdorf Regime expect??

Excitement on the south side this season will be slim and none if no deals are made. But then, you already knew that.

Where's the shrugging smiley?

Not a real big move. I really don't think it will affect the team too incredibly much.

Hopefully his batting average won't decrease away from Coors Field. :o

I think this is a good move, beacause I don't see Miles as being much. Sure, he didn't get much of a chance, but I would've pulled the trigger on this too.

I believe it's the trade that was gonna blow our minds Hawk alluded to in July.

didnt see this one coming

This is what Baseball Prospectus said about Uribe before the season began.

"Too thick-headed to be a star? Uribe hasn't taken the time to learn English and it's hindering his progress. He's supporting a huge extended family on his minimum salary, and on the trip to Shea last year he'd bought tickets for dozens of friends and family members, and then spent the series trying to prove he could hit 600 foot homers. He wound up hitting 3 for 20 with no extra base hits. He's fast enough to steal a lot more bases than this. Hurdle stuck by him at first, but started to lose patience by season's end. They're done screwing around with him. They forced him to train all winter and had him report to Denver in January to work on "the mental and physical aspects of the game" with the new coaching staff. Not that anyone noticed but he doubled his walk rate last year. Espy can work with that. Now that Rey Sanchez and Orlando Cabrera have their historic seasons behind them, Uribe's the best fielding shortstop in the National Leage."

Last year's Scouting Notebook said in part "The biggest questionn he faces is whether he'll hit enough to play every day. he has a 2 piece swing, bringing his bat back, stopping, and starting over again. He has a problem with breaking balls, which is compounded by the fact he doesn't force pitchers to throw strikes. He is a good bunter...Uribe has spectacular defensive skills. Scouts rate his arm, range and hands near the top of the scale. He reads the ball very well off the bat, but has to concentrate better. All but a handful of his errors come on routine plays, as he tends to get a little lackadaisical."

You gotta think Ozzie will help him. I think it's a fine trade, moreso if it frees up Valentin to leave. I figure Jose is gone.

After looking at the Splits... I don't think this means Jose is on his way out... this looks like a replacement for Tony G.

he will play versus Left-handed pitching.... he hits 150 points better than jose versus LHP but 100 points worse vs RHP...

Thanks for the info.

If he's in the lineup everyday and our offense goes dormant again, we're sure not going to get any help from him. I'll take his defensive skills though.

either way, it's a low-risk move, Miles is a career minor leaguer anyway.

Nothing for nothing hope another deal is in the works.

I wonder what HSC thinks of this? She might not be too happy. But, for me... I like the trade. I think that we might try to get Uribe to turn into a Juan Pierre type player with Ozzie as the manager now.

I've been high on Uribe since 2002. He hit .300 his rookie year, was the Rockies #1 SS prospect/hitting prospect. He's just 24. It'll be awesome if he plays full time. He beats up on the AL Central pitchers. He's just the guy we need. I think it's a steal. He's got some power too!
