IMO, it’s a political Hail Mary. It isn’t based on science. They know if the economy hasn’t rebounded decently by the election, Trump is done, and the many who seemed to join his cult are done as well. Jared did them no favors with his prediction things would be rocking in July. But it might have been a dog whistle to the Trumpers that now is the time. If they don’t start now, the numbers will be horrific in November. They still might and probably will be, but if somehow this works, that’s great for them. The right to lifers don’t seem to really care about older Americans and those with conditions that make them susceptible to this. It was also a Fox News edict. The funny thing is the Fox News gang can work in their office, but for some reason they are working from home. Do as I say not as I do. I do agree with Soxbadger that by June, this is going to all blow up anyway. It is already happening. In Stillwater OK, they had to rescind their mask rule in stores and restaurants because employees there were being berated and even threatened with guns for trying to enforce, and trying to stay healthy. Just blowing everything off is going to put health care workers at risk. The hospital system will implode. People will die of Covid, and people will die of others things they would have normally survived but couldn’t get the care they needed because of either the system being overtaxed or of them being afraid to go to the hospital.2 points

From a relative of mine who is a nurse in Chicago: " Its beyond stupid at this point. Only one view is allowed by the liberal media and that is keep the shutdown going. Somehow the plot changed from flattening the curve to keep hospitals below capacity to nobody should ever get Covid. It makes no sense." What do u all think of this?1 point

Little surprised you are predicting Armageddon, Dick. This kind of worries me. I thought some hospitals were close to bankrupt because of LACK of business right now. Your opinion here is why we locked down in the first place, hospitals getting overrun. Are you saying we are not past that concern? Why are so many states then acting as if it's time to open up? Again ... most of these governors are very conservative re. corona and opening up very slowly. Dick ... tell me if I'm wrong. Seems to me you are in favor of lockdown for quite some time to come. Like through the winter? I think people will definitely starve in your scenario and there would be a Civil War as well. Just my take. I'm a little worried about yours since I think you are a regular guy.1 point

Everything is a political Hail Mary from Trump. Again, he is predicting the disease will be eradicated and he was moaning that he has been stuck in the White House. We don't need massive acts of denial, we need leadership. What is really needed is for him to tell the American public how dire this situation is. And I don't understand people getting so angry for being asked to wear a mask. States can open up if they want, but I am not taking part in this. We are not in this together.1 point

Points 5 and 6 ... covid by description is about the worst thing known to man. This is concerning. If China did create this disease to take over the world, it seems to me one more corona like disease created by the Chinese should about finish us off. How could this disease be THIS BAD just by coincidence? If some guy ate an infected bat ... cmon, why wouldn't this or other diseases have started up long ago? If this disease is THIS BAD (the symptoms you describe) and there's a chance 300,000 people would be hospitalized in Florida (initial projections) then why wouldn't the whole country have mandatory lockdown for at least 12 months? Again, parts of the day I read this is no big deal; my brother a nurse in Chicago tells me this is not bad; then later in the day I read your post. Every day is the same ... I read positive stuff then negagtive. Your post suggests pretty much the end of spectator sports, the end of concerts, the end of churh services, pretty much the end of the USA. It really does. On so many levels. p.s. If Texas and Florida really believed covid was this bad why would the governors want to reopen and cause a huge catastrophe?1 point

I’m willing to wager a significant amount of money she has never been to Auschwitz. It’s just another version of the “your fears, our freedom” argument. If you’re a genuine patriotic American, you will go back to work, no matter what the ultimate costs to families in terms of lives lost. Everyone who disagrees is basically a soft, socialist lefty who wants to take everyone’s guns away, shutter churches...trampling the 1st Amendment. Meanwhile, this entire entire time, no governor has even argued against the right to protest, if you do it safely, wear a mask, social distance, and don’t block off streets preventing emergency vehicles from getting through. It would almost be understandable...if any of their bosses, managers or CEO suits were out there with them. It’s not shared sacrifice, it’s about sacrificing those who are considered “expendable” by corporate elites to keep the profits flowing, the coffers filled. Feel sorry so many who aren’t even aware they’re being manipulated behind the scenes by all these fronts for what is essentially Wall Street and the most ideologically-extreme right wing political action committees. And no amount of jackbooted thugs will ever succeed in forcing consumers back out onto the streets to spend...in fact, for that 75% of Americans who think signs like these are reprehensible...it just makes it more likely they’ll stay inside longer to protect themselves from idiots like these.1 point

clipped from another forum and pasted here. This is for those who equate the standard flu bug to Covid-19:-------- For anyone who knows that one person who just can’t seem to get on board with this- feel free to share. ***Let me introduce myself: I am a practicing ER doctor with a Bachelors degree in cell and molecular biology/genetics and a Masters degree in public health in addition to my doctorate. COVID is not a flu. Not even a little. Here are reasons why: 1. It is a separate species. It is no more like influenza than you are like a hippo. DIFFERENT SPECIES. 2. It is an airborne virus. This means the tiny droplets can stay in the air for a full 2 hours. So if a person coughed in aisle 4 of Target 1.5 hours ago, they may be home now but their covid cloud is still hanging there just waiting for you to walk by and take a breath. Influenza is not an airborne virus. It is droplet spread- meaning someone has to directly crop dust you with their sneeze to get you sick. Covid is much more contagious. 3. Covid is more virulent. Virulence factor is a measure of how catchy something is. For example, the flu is like beer. It takes a bunch to get you drunk. Covid is more like tequila - A little goes a long way. You need to suck up a lot of flu particles to actually catch the flu; with covid, even a few particles is enough to infect you. 4. Covid has a longer incubation than the flu. When you catch the flu, you typically get sick in the next 1-2 days. This is awesome because it means you stay at home while contagious because you feel like a heap of fried garbage. Covid has a blissful 5-9 days of symptom free time during which you are well enough to head to the movies, gym or mar-a-lago while also being contagious enough to infect everyone you encounter. 5. Covid has a longer duration of illness than flu. With covid, you have a 5-9 days of blissful asymptomatic contagiousness. This then turns into about 1 week of cough and overall feeling like hell but still surviving. Week 2 is when things hit the fan and people end up unable to breathe and on a ventilator. Many stay on the vent for up to 15 days. 5 days incubating+7 kinda sick days + 15 days on a ventilator makes for 27 days of virus spreading illness, (assuming you don’t just die of massive asphyxiation and body-wide collapse from overwhelming infection somewhere in that last week). The flu has an average incubation of 1-2 days and sick time of 7 days for a total of 9 infectious days. In the world of deadly viruses, that 18 extra days might as well be a millennia. 6. Covid is more deadly. A LOT more deadly. The flu has about a 0.2% mortality rate, meaning 2 of every thousand people who get sick with flu will die. On the contrary, the death rate from covid is reportedly 2%, so 10 times more deadly than flu. Ten times more death seems like a lot more death to me. Whats more worrisome is that 2% is actually incorrect because it doesn’t usually kill kids so that skews the average. With covid, age is a major factor in survival. If we don’t include people under 30, the death rate for adults is on average 4.5%. 9 out of every 200 adults that get this will die from it. Do you know 200 adults? Do you think losing 9 of them is no big deal? Since mortality increases with age in covid, the risk gets worse as you get older so if we put 100 grannies in a room with covid, only 85 would make it out alive to make pies and tell great stories of the old days... and that just sucks. I hope that helps to clarify why covid is in no way a flu, why you are in no way a hippo, and why staying home is the only way for non-essential people to do their part while I spend my days at work covered in a plastic poncho, sucking air through a stuffy respirator mask, leaving my scrubs in my driveway, showering the covid off at 4am when I get in, and thinking to myself “now do u still think it was just a flu?” as I risk my own life with my face 2 inches from their highly contagious, gasping mouth while I slide the plastic tube down their throat and start up the ventilator.1 point
