  1. There’s some stuff in this article from March saying he was back in the 92-94 range in spring training, has been working at Driveline, and added a curveball. I’ve got nothing talking about how he was this year other than his stats struggling at AAA, and some 2019-2020 articles about how he was back to throwing in the 90s but it wasn’t translating to results on the field. https://www.redlegnation.com/2021/03/01/cincinnati-reds-pitcher-brandon-finnegan-shows-good-velo-new-pitch-monday/

  2. From the little I know he has been plagued by mechanical flaws and health issues.

  3. Not in 2019. They had 3 years to prepare for that, but even with that, scouting guys to spend all their money on was too much work. But hey, it’s not like the White Sox have one of the worst minor league systems in baseball now, so they did plenty of work and very much deserve their juice boxes.

  4. Of course that could just be a specific issue with the quality of the White Sox’s drafting, which is something we have heard with this organization for two decades. The Astros tanked and as a consequence drafted Springer, Correa, Tucker, Bregman, McCullers. And a lot of their trade chips. They also signed Valdez, Garcia, Urquidy, and Javier with their international dollars in those years - the money the White Sox couldn’t find anything to use it on so they sent it away to the Rangers. A student who doesn’t work hard might do just fine when they can cheat on the homework using someone else’s top 100 prospect list, but they will flop on the test when they can only rely on themselves.

  5. Teams don't tank for draft picks. That's the grand illusion. They tank so they can have a low major league payroll and make a bunch of money. It's an easy built-in excuse and if it happens to work out all the better but the only reason to do it is to make more money.

  6. Maybe this all took place at the first game of 2019 right after he hit the first home run of the first game. Man’s tallied 6 total home runs in his Sox minor league career but before he hit two more home runs in that first game But also do nerds really rely on a counting stat like home runs for power potential? Seems like a baseball nerd would focus on like hip rotation moves per 1000 frames (of which I’m sure Robert is elite anyway ????)

  7. This story sounds like bullshit. The year Luis Robert got to 6 home runs in A+ was in 2019. During that year, it took him a mere 13 games to get to 6 home runs. He was promoted from A+ after 19 games while posting a ridiculous .920 slugging percentage. Who would doubt the power potential of a guy with that robust slugging percentage and home run rate? The repeated use of "kid" and "little" is cringeworthy. Your buddy sounds jealous tbh.
