Never made the catch. Pulled one of the best fast ones on a ump in MLB history. https://www.mlb.com/cut4/todd-frazier-tricked-umpires-with-rubber-ball/c-293382054

I'd rather have the extra year with these relievers then crappy prospects.

Race for the worst 2018 record (Top 5 pick) again
wrathofhahn replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah I wanted to go back and edit to 2WAR but the edit button didn't work. That's fair. Anyways at this point I'm just beating a dead horse can't wait for football season to start so I can get away from the whitesox for a bit and the negativity of this year. I was really excited for the rebuild originally and was hoping we get some more young players and sort of finish the teardown. Instead of we just got stuck in no mans land and wasted the entire year. -

Why do any of us post here or use twitter? It's mainly to vent and yell at the clouds as a fan of the sox. It certainly would be easier as a fan to believe there is a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow but that is just not how I'm wired. Also nowhere did I revel in his struggles if that was the impression I gave then that was a mistake on my part. I'm just really frustrated with how the season went from the trade deadline to the draft to how some of the players haven't taken the step forward we thought they would. -

The thing is 3 WAR players are easy to get either via trade or FA. Teams aren't overpaying for middling above average players the way they used to. So personally I'd rather have us shoot for the stars for the next Lindor rather then settle for someone with a good floor but low ceiling. Go out and trade for those guys if you have holes and try instead to find cornerstone young players in the draft that is where the surplus value is. Not to mention Madrigal doesn't even fill a need. Anderson is an already 3ish player and Moncada is a top prospect at 2B. But what done is done. I raised all these things at the time all I can do is hope Madrigal proves me wrong. -

Just because something is scarce doesn't make it more valuable. I choose it look at it another way the league is adjusting to the data that is out there on these players. I also don't buy he'll all of sudden hit homruns/power once he gets to the ML. How did that work for Tilson? In any case like the other post said it's still early enough that there is still some time. Lets hope he eats his spinach in the offseason. -

Maybe 20 years ago. Now it's all about slugging percentage and to a slightly lesser extent OBP. If you can't hit for power in todays MLB your path is extremely narrow to make it in the MLB and your upside is limited. And lets not pretend either that these questions didn't surround Madrigal at the time. Some scouts chose to ignore them others did not. For me it never was his hit tool I don't care what a persons average is for the most part if they both have similar OBP what I care about is SLG%. I hope he turns things around he has maybe two years to do so as a prospect. -

Some of us saw it coming. Forget Gorman try trading him for Groshans. I never liked the pick we bought into he's a gamer hype rather then his future profile everytime you do that you get burned. If you look at modern baseball and what his skills project out as he should have been 1A/2nd round pick. Huge mistake and I said it at the time but what can you do? He's almost 22 so he probably doesn't have a ton of time left as a prospect maybe 2 years all you can do is cross your fingers and hope he proves you wrong., -
8/26 GT - KOPECH DAY (PART 2)!!
wrathofhahn replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in 2018 Season in Review
I think the only reason people are having this discussion is because how the game went. If the game wasn't 7-1 he probably stays. Or least has the opportunity to finish the inning if he doesn't get into trouble. -

As a group you elected Trump are you willing abide to his standard of decency (or lack thereof)? If not then why should anyone abide by yours? And I never mentioned the word f**. There is so much more then that going on here the standard used to be at least growing up is that we abstained from offensive language we all know what it is you mentioned one earlier now that is no longer good enough we need to speak in such a way someone somewhere might not construe the context as being offensive. We now need safe spaces, trigger warnings, and micro aggression labeling. For example: Jeannie Suk, a professor at Harvard Law School, cited an example where a student had asked a colleague “not to use the word 'violate’ – as in 'does this conduct violate the law’ – because the term might trigger distress”. At Brown University – the New York Times reported students set up a “safe space” that offered calming music, cookies, Play-Doh and a video of frolicking puppies to help students cope with a discussion on how colleges should handle sexual assault. This mindset seeps into society even further then that. You mentioned how you want people to evolve how is that supposed to happen if they are shamed into silence rather then have both belief systems questioned in the public square? You think that gives rise to some sort of 'evolution' pushing down one side only gives rise to a lack of empathy and an attempt to push you down as well. -

Who decides what is OK? The mob? There are some words that should never be uttered for obvious reasons but for others it's not so simple. I don't want the mob deciding what I can and cannot say but more importantly I don't want them trying to prevent me from saying it. Why is it even their business how I speak to others. Who gave them the moral authority to judge someone else? Do SJW get some sort of moral badge when they join twitter? You mentioned earlier that a large majority of the country refuses to evolve isn't that their own business? It's partly why Trump got elected the silent majority got tired of other people sticking their nose in their business and being told of what they could and couldn;t say. Don't get me wrong I'm not defending what was said but I won't defend the outrage either. To me those people are 10x worse then Kopech. For most of them it isn't even about the cause it's more some sort of weird 21st century preening and ego stroking some sort of here look at me I'm so 'evolved'. Meanwhile if you saw an old lady would you help her cross the street? Open the door for them? Help them struggle with groceries?Do you donate to the local foodbank? Sick kids? Do you give your time and help your neighbor by plowing their laneway? Do you help take care of your family disabled child noone else wants? Those are the type of things that actually matter like the other poster mentioned it earlier. As James 2:18 says: But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. -

The lack of tolerance is a two way street it's also weird how some of the people who claim to be the most tolerant are the least tolerant of diverging views. I also think we've sort of lost the ability to put things into context. Was what Kopech said unacceptable? Yes. Is it something that you would find on any 17 year old twitter feed (regardless of race)? For sure. Was what he said with malice? No. Those are all important points but it seems like if someone says something context never matters. People aren't interested in finding out your meaning or what you meant it's more about a word that happens to trigger them. Then the mob attacks you regardless of what you meant infact in many ways they are purposely ignorant to what the original attention was. To me that isn't evolution. That is frontier justice. It's why I'm very protective of my privacy and why I don't have a twitter presence or use facebook someone at work actually asked me the other day are you on facebook to friend me. So let me get this straight I'll friend them and give them access to my feed then if we have a falling out they'll be able to go over all my history like what happened with Kopech? Hell no. I have a linkdn page for my career thats it. -

It isn't evolving and there are somethings I'm not willing to move from. Also at sometime someplace I am going to say something that is offensive to someone I've accepted that fact and I've been offended many times in the past as well. It's part of life. It's part of being an adult. It's part of having difficult conversations with people. It moves well beyond just words as well. I find that people anymore are unwilling to expose themselves to ideas they deem personally offensive and consider that they maybe wrong. That once again is not evolution. It's actually a big part of what is tearing the USA apart. -

We can but can we also acknowledge that a misused word is not the same as word such as negro ni**ger etc with dubious backgrounds to begin with. Can we also recognize that changing from retarded to "mentally handicapped" or "developmentally challenged" or "special needs" is more designed to make ourselves feel better (ie look how far we've come) then change the root behavior that necessitated the change in the first place. It sort of reminds me of an old ozzy ozzbourne reality tv show episode. They had a dog that constantly peed on the couch their solution was a new couch. What do you think the dog did as soon as the new couch arrived he peed on it. We can keep doing this euphemism thing forever doing nothing but making ourselves feel better or we can attack the ideas behind the misuse of the word itself. -

I sort of view it differently the term retard and before that moron, imbecile, feeble-minded, idiot were not an excuse to treat disabled individuals poorly but more of a tool. As long as the intent is there what does it matter the tool? It's just as easy to say "special" "developmentally challenged" and use it in insult as it is retard. I also think we as a society have to sort of learn the art of not giving a f again. Which seems sort of ass backwards posting on a forum but people seem to care way too much about other people feelings whether they are offended, hurt, or angry. They allow themselves to get triggered by random people online. Celebrities measure their self worth by random twitter followers and outrage mobs can take down careers and entire persons. I was lucky to grow up in an era right before the internet age so I sort of saw what it was like before and after and honestly just from a purely healthy emotional standpoint people dealt with crap a whole of alot better before rather then after. I think for a lot of people it's too much I know for me it is. I got off twitter years ago for that reason. Got off facebook too. -

The term retardation was never meant to dehumanize. In fact it was the 80's version of developmentally challenged and was the result of a major push of advocacy groups in the 60's 70's to change ICD-9 from idiot, imbecile and moronic. I guess the point is we can keep going back to the euphemism factory every couple of years or we can solve the root cause. Which is like you said not generalizing accepting the fact people are born with differences and being respectful. -

That's fair. The problem sort of becomes when it stops being the clinical term it sort of has the opposite effect because in a way the disabled community is giving up ownership of it and if it no longer refers to someone who is disabled how can it be offensive? After all at one time moron, imbecile, and idiot were also clinical definitions of people with an intellectual disability (ICD-9, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ICD-9_codes_290–319:_mental_disorders#Mental_retardation_(317–319)) has retiring them from medical texts stopped their usage? What makes using retard less acceptable then imbecile? Time? -

wrathofhahn replied to LittleHurt05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Retarded is actually the clinical definition or at least was until 2010. It's all silly because even the campaign against it's use has no real reason to stop it's use. It has a well established clinical definition it's connotation means slow which is not offensive. It all seems to stem from the fact people use it as an insult but the reality is it's just as easy for someone to use the term mentally challenged, mentally disabled, etc as an insult all you have done is invent a new word for kids to insult each other on the playground. If you believe the use of the term is hurtful the solution isn't to ban the word it's to engage and hold those accountable who use the term in a hurtful way. -

It's like these people sit around their computers looking for ways to be offended. How does what he said when he was 17 affect anybody anywhere? And why do you care? Why are you even looking at his tweets from 5 years ago? It reminds me of the Colts announcer who supposedly said somesort of racial slur the outrage mob didn't even have any idea what was said the only thing they were sure of is they were deeply offended by it. -

No idea why Anderson leads off. His OBP is abysmal

That Boston lineup is murder. Before Baz it sort of became a question of whether Glasnow could start now they don't really need it to work out. Just one of Baz or Glasnow needs to be a quality starter for them to win the deal. I like those odds. I would have done that deal for Rodon and to me anyways (not sure how others view him) he's worth more then Archer

Heyman: Eloy/Kopech may not be promoted this year
wrathofhahn replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've gotten into this argument with others before but MLB is not a developmental league. It's not meant for players to go through "growing pains" it's meant for winning games. There also isn't any evidence that MLB is better at developing players then the MILB. Afterall coaches in AAA/AA have much more time to spend 1-1 on players and in todays age they all have access to the film they can see what areas that need to be worked on. -
Or they could be working up his PC back to a starter role. His first three starts were 48, 61, and 79 pitches and 3, 4, 5 innings. Archer who was traded averaged 90-100 pitches to start. What you are talking about is mainly what they are attempting to do via relievers and rather then have a 5th starter with a 5ish ERA have that spot instead done by three relievers. It wouldn't work if they tried it every night. There isn't enough bullpen spots.
