I think he wants to place that bet, but doesn't necessarily want "betting" to become easier and more accessible.

I would start B. Monty in K. Napolis, and let him earn his way up to B. Ham by the end of 2025. A June arrival in 2026 would work perfectly for B. Monty. A June arrival in 2025 would work for C. Monty. -

I'm secretly Chris Getz, and I am not paying him. -

Isn't Michael Busch with the Cubs? -
Dude, the people who run the board maintain a very negative, anti-Getz vibe, here. I've already said that I start viewing neutral moves as negative because of the constant wave of negativity, not just here, but everywhere. All over sports. The only way to deal with it is to push back on the obvious BS. Then I'm a "Getz-lover" who tries to defend every action. The fact that I see Nevin's hiring as a "give him a paycheck until the next round of managerial interviews" is just trying to figure it out. I actually see your attitude as refreshing and nuanced. All a lot of people here want to do is discuss White Sox baseball.

Alright, in the spirit of Chicago White Sox's comment (I wish he'd adjust his name to something more identifiable), this seems to be to be the hiring of a pal. I don't know how valuable Nevin is. BOB called it a shrewd move, but he's persona non grata in White Sox land. I'm guessing he's just a roving guy, and either reports to JR and TLR, or really will work with Janish and Shirley. It could be an efficiency to pull in development guys to help cover more ground for draft scouting. I believe Getz had a bunch of draft scouts moving around a few teams' minor league systems to scout their guys for eventual Crochet and Robert deals. This is one of those moves where I don't like it, because believe it or not, I get influenced by all the negative, and do have a slightly negative view of Nevin, mostly due to the "throw at that hitter" incident. But he's a baseball lifer from outside the organization, so there's that. I also see this as throwing Nevin a bone until the next round of managerial interviews open up.

Why not? He's played the game for 12 years on 7 different teams. Has coached/managed in 5 different organizations over 16 years. I mean, no, it's not like he's spent that time gaining the valuable experience of commenting on a baseball message board, but he didn't totally waste those 28 years in the pro game.

CWS Acquire Reliever Cam Booser from BOS
WestEddy replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
And the Red Sox famously traded Curt Shilling, Brady Anderson and Jeff Bagwell in failed bids to bulk up for the '88 and '90 playoffs. I'm sure that's what made Craig Breslow's eyes glaze over in his zombie-like transformation, and he declared, "must ... trade ... valued ... prospects ... to ... white sox!" Because, historically, that's what the Red Sox have done. Because of the previous regime's neglect of the farm system, KW/Hahn were forced to deal from a paucity of talent to supplement their roster. I would think that stories about how we passed on drafting Ron Guidry or trading Bobby Bonilla have as much bearing as the trade of Semien or Tatis, right now. -
His philosophy in that manager article was that he liked to check in with his players every single day. Maybe he's just part of being more on top of minor league players. There's a lot of them. I have read that the latest "untapped market inefficiency" is empathy. Sports psychology is the biggest investment right now in college sports.

He has been a player fave. I would think having someone the players feel is "on their side" gets their attention, and helps sell the organization's developmental ideas. He is also an analytics proponent. He can also teach the players to "look like they care" when they're slumping, breaking water coolers, and stuff - for the sports talk meat heads.
