I was fully expecting Sizemore to "check all the boxes", and didn't even really mind. It had occurred to me that Sizemore has never prepared a team for Spring Training. I'm glad they have a guy who at least has been part of the process and has the experience of managing a full club from "pitchers and catchers report" through the playoffs.

I was resigned to being okay with Sizemore. This seems like a positive development.

So....Grady Sizemore is no longer under consideration?

This is sadly pathetic. When I got like this about the bears, I stopped following them.

Maybe it's just a negotiating tactic. "Oh, you want that much? Look!! This exciting, new candidate just became available!!

I don't know if it's not being able to be coached, or bad clubhouse/field presence. It's just my opinion that if they have somebody who might top out at a 95 RC+, play him and save the $2.6 million Sheets will probably earn.

One of the admins here has a problem with joking about suicide. You should probably be mindful of that.

Is Colas bad? He seems to have put up numbers over time. Tanked 2024. My first thought was always to just slide Sosa over to 1st if he keeps hitting, but he's the same height as Vaughn. The 2025 1B may not even finish the year with the team. The only 1B I can squint and see in the pipeline is DJ Gladney. Struck out less than 25% of his PAs at AA (SSS, I know).

I think a take on him is that his back wasn't healed until September. He's just played 50% more baseball this season than he's ever played in his life.

If they can't get a league average hitting prospect as a 3rd or 4th piece of a Crochet or Robert trade, just platoon Elko and Sheets. Elko/Colas would probably be better.

Oh, wow. You laughed at my mention of 6 innings with Atlanta. You're right that invalidates his entire career before that. Otherwise, I have no idea what you're talking about. What's PE? Getz grabbed up a bunch of veteran arms to build a bullpen. I'm sure he got some input from Bannister and Katz. Bannister's worked with a bunch of players who have responded to his coaching or methods. I don't see an issue with picking the guy's brain.

John Brebbia had a ceiling of a shut-down set-up man, which he has done before, and looked like in his 6 Atlanta innings after leaving. Declan Cronin hasn't looked like that since low-A. $4 million isn't a lot to pay a guy who could be a solid go-to bullpen arm. We're playing word games over pitching development. If we have a very good guy at the top of the development ladder, that is the goal.

Bannister doesn't have to be the best pitching developer ever. He just needs to develop our pitching. He is. The perception of "solid relievers" on another team isn't the same as solid relievers on the Sox. Many tears were shed for Declan Cronin, like he would have added 10 wins, and Cronin's numbers are basically the same as John Brebbia's.

I suppose it's fun to pretend that Getz set his own budget, and demanded Grifol not be fired. Hell, many here even think he ran the entire organization as the Director of Player Development. What we're seeing is Getz finally being able to clean house after people's contracts ran out, and the disgruntled, here, are desperately trying to reframe that as a bad thing, or as "praising" Chris Getz.

No, we don't know that. He put together a bad team on the fly. Is the Bannister hire a horrible decision? Multiple people have made the point that they're mad at how Getz was hired, so they're going to be especially impatient with every single move. That's fine. I'm not going to agree with the same nonsense everybody has decided to yell because they're mad.
