  1. You mean, louder for the people chanting the same thing without offering any evidence of anything? I would love one of the experts here to point to a player - "Nate Pawelczyk. He was a can't miss staff ace, and Chris Getz drilled holes in his arm and poured weak juice in it and ruined him." Anything. I look at the 2018 draft. Right in the middle of Getz's directorship, and they had 10 draft picks make the majors. Even if they sat on the bench for a game, they made the majors. 10 guys. As opposed to, like, 2 from previous drafts. 10. The White Sox are not a good organization for acquiring and developing talent. Marco Paddy seems to be having more success than Dave Wilder, but not off the charts. Nick Hostetler seemed to be better than, I don't know... Doug Laumann? Mike Shirley seems to have more solid drafts than Hostetler did. National guys, like Keith Law are saying that the Sox have made clear advancements in areas. He was actually kind of bullish on our system in a spring interview with Jim Margalus.
  2. Oh, then I'm sure you would have some examples where his decisions resulted in prospects not developing properly. Just repeating the same canard on different gif memes isn't really an argument. It's lazy. People who report on teams' minor league systems have written that the White Sox actually grew into an organization that develops catchers, and Keith Law cited the Sox as finally being able to develop hitters. This all happened on Chris Getz's timeclock. I get not liking the hire. I get not wanting anyone with any connection to the organization to be GM, and cleaning house. That is all perfectly reasonable. But to keep trotting out the same tired BS of "I haven't seen any successes" in an entry level position isn't really convincing. I'm not arguing that Getz is great, good, or even competent. But it gets tiresome having to pretend that every single move this team makes is tragically horrible, and then we all whine that we can no longer be White Sox fans because we're dead inside.
  3. Can you tell us what Getz's duties were as director of player development, and how he failed? Examples, please. And then tell us what his duties were as Assistant GM, and which ones of those he failed. Seems like KW and Rick Hahn were making the decisions, then.
  4. And a competent organization knows when to trade a pitcher at the top of his value to fill holes elsewhere on the roster. I don't remember much acknowledging of his shortcomings during that back-and-forth. In Mena's 3/31 start, he threw one pitch that hit 94 mph. He mostly topped out 91-92. His fastball didn't jump to the "mid-90's". The team he beat was the Oakland A's AAA club. Nobody on that team is top 100.
  5. Yes, Madrigal, Vaughn, Crochet and Fulmer were all rushed. Colas. Boy, it's a good thing the people who made those decisions aren't with the organization anymore. To yell that Getz is part of the same FO, and is exactly like Hahn is silly. He was minor league director for 3-4 seasons. Weird that y'all get to argue that the entire system sucks and we really only have one minor league prospect in Montgomery, but at the same time, scream every time a future utility infielder who can't take a walk is DFAed. Everybody sucks, but we can't let one of the sucky guys go, because then we'll have zero sucky guys!! Oh, and if we're discussing successes and failures, Getz just took an often injured reliever and turned him into a staff ace. Success.
  6. Other teams care about Seby Zavala. That's why he's on Seattle's MLB roster. Of course expectations are higher. And you have your future shortstop at AAA waiting for DeJong to go 0-29 over the course of a week for the passing of the baton. Your future 3B is at AA right now. Both will probably see playing time this season. I get being tired of this team. That doesn't mean we get to make up our own reality.
  7. So would I. Getz just took over in August. We've already seen a change in focus internationally, where we're not hanging onto money till the end of the signing period, waiting for a Cuban to defect. I would also like to see an end of punting picks 3-10 to save money for some high school kid in the 18th round. As far as Mena, pick a lane. Either he was a good arm who rose through the system, or he was hot garbage who wasn't developed. Trading prospects to fill holes in other areas is one use of prospects.
  8. Do you mean Sheets? There are 3 AAA relievers on the 40-man. The only other fat I could see getting trimmed, at this point, is Jared Schuster.
  9. Which proves my point. Getz is responsible for the failures, but not the successes. A guy like Seby Zavala went from a college bat who incidentally caught, to a defense-first back-up pro catcher. His defense was developed in our system. Tanner Banks sucks? Dude, I get that there's a bunch of people here who hate Reinsdorf, and therefore, everything about this organization is bad, wrong, catastrophic. And trading Mena doesn't erase his development. I have nothing to do with Chris Getz. It is possible for people outside of the echo chamber to look at this team objectively, and see some positives.
  10. The implied savings are in exchange for the risk the team takes. Not as much a "hometown discount" as paying down some of the risk. Crochet has much more value as a starter, for the Sox and Crochet. The Sox are taking a risk in stretching him out, but that will pay dividends for everybody.
  11. It actually did. Guys who weren't rushed to be utility players or bullpen arms have been developed into actual prospects. Colson Montgomery wasn't drafted as a top of his class shortstop. His quick ascension on national lists is a development win. So is Schultz, Ramos, Cannon, and Mena. Also, the appearance of home grown bullpen arms and utility infielders is also an important job of development. Everybody rolls their eyes at the Seby Zavalas, Zach Remillards, Jimmy Lamberts, Tanner Banks, But those are all cheap players to fill supporting roles on the club.
  12. Why do people keep saying this? Sale and Quintana were signed to 5 year extensions.
  13. I'm confused. I thought Getz was only responsible for the prospects who did poorly.
  14. There's a bit of an echo chamber here, where a small group of irate people have created the reality of a team that will struggle to win 30 games a season for the next 7 years. That's ridiculous. Seeing Garret Crochet carve up the Braves and go 7 with no issues really opens up a lot of possibilities. You're going to hit this next off-season with probably 4 spots nailed down, and rookies moving Moncada, DeJong, and whatever catcher is left out of the way. What didn't work so well last time was a two-headed monster running the club with different priorities that neglected drafting, international signings and development. Hahn basically acquired 5 starters, drafted 2 more, and he was done with rotational depth. And then they never had final answers for 2B, RF or DH.
  15. There was a day off after opening day, so Crochet pitched on regular rest, yesterday.
  16. That's great, because I rank ESPN as zero for watchability. Maybe they should fire everyone, and just use AI to randomly generate content.
  17. My reaction was about keeping Cease for the length of his control, not signing an extension. If this team was still in their contention window, Cease would be a White Sox right now. I also mentioned that we would have kept Giolito and Lynn to the end of last year.
  18. Were the Sox magically functional when they wrapped up Eaton, Sale and Quintana? Jimenez and Moncada are injury machines. Yoan is amazing when well. Somebody here said in the last few days that Eloy is just a different player than he was his first year. He doesn't have that power anymore. I don't know if it's injuries, age, or mechanics. Eloy's contract will work out well if they don't pick up his options. Same with Yoan. I'd like to see the Sox buy out the last one or two years of arbitration, and grab a couple FA years, maybe tack on a couple of options. If this is a healthy Crochet, and he works his way up to 180 innings a year? That's one of the best dozen pitchers in the game.
  19. And seriously, Robert's extension makes him practically untradeable right now, it's so valuable. If he's finally healthy for the first time in his pro career, Crochet locked up for 4 years is extremely valuable. He could probably even be had for a number that would work if he had to go back to the bullpen.
  20. Well, maybe not that long, but I'd be surprised if Getz and the new KC contracts guy weren't hammering out the framework of a Crochet extension they'd pursue if Crochet got to the end of the season without incident. Chris Sale and Jose Quintana both got 5 year extensions.
  21. It would have happened if the team didn't crash and burn. They extended Lynn. Giolito was hell-bent on testing free agency. Right now, they're in rebuild mode. Every name that comes up on the roster, people start chanting "flip him", and that's not realistic. They need players to play the actual games. People were talking about "flipping" Steven Wilson, and he has 4 years of control. If Anderson, Lynn and Grandal continued being productive baseball players the team might have been competitive, and they would have retained Lynn, Giolito, and the bullpen guys through the end of the season. They didn't suck because Reinsdorf sent down a memo. Hahn/KW never filled the gaping holes in RF and 2B. Money? Clubhouse culture? Non-resourceful GM? All of it? I'm not defending anybody, it's just that the simplistic "Jerry Reinsdorf ruined life for everybody" refrain doesn't really explain mob-think that goes on. We're all complaining that we're not acquiring difference makers in trade. Garret Crochet appears to be a difference-maker. Maybe he's finally being handled correctly, and can stay healthy. There's your ace, going forward, that you can build a rotation around.
  22. Dude, we're 4 games into the season. Robert's a star, and Crochet's looking like a stud. Yoan could be a player. The death march on the 0-23 opening is over. Let's see who steps up and looks like trade bait, and who looks like long termers. Shewmake could be this team's Lillibridge.
  23. And, beyond Noah Schultz, nobody looks like a difference maker outside of Crochet. I am on the side of thinking that Dylan Cease, while a great pitcher, at times, was not an "ace". I think Crochet could be.
