Ohtani Watch: Dodgers sign - 700M over 10yrs
That was the trade for Reinsdorf keeping Kenny Williams.

Ohtani Watch: Dodgers sign - 700M over 10yrs
Surely, the Dodgers can just declare that they're signing Ohtani, also. If enough people start to believe that, who can really say what team he's on?

What kind of private jet does Whit Merrifield fly on?

Morosi linked Whit to White Sox in Dec23
MLBTR now tells us the Red Sox have interest in Merrifield. Maybe we get Avisail back to play RF.

Jerry visits Nashville mayor
Sox fan to wife: Oh, come on, now. I'm sure my mother didn't assign you this ethnic dish to make and bring to Christmas Eve dinner to humiliate you. It's her way of including you in our family's traditions. You women just make up things to worry about!! Headline: Reinsdorf Meets With Nashville Mayor Sox fan: OMG!!! What if he just springs this on us next June, and we wasted 6 months where we could have been worrying about this 24/7?!?!?

What are the Sox trying to do here, really?
The question posed was whether Jerry R. had the "stomach" to spend in the right areas. I'm sure he's not trying to lose. And I'm sure that if he had a trusted GM telling him he needed a larger stats department, he would do that. We act like JR won't let anyone in his organization use cell phones, or whatnot. Atlanta sees themselves as competing for a World Series in 2024. There's no room for Soroka. The Sox are rebuilding. He fills a hole nicely.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Everybody here thinks Rick Hahn and KW were the biggest idiots on the face of the Earth. When they were "desperate", they traded Steele Walker and Konnor Pilkington to fill holes. I'm not sure why everybody thinks other teams will be dumber than the dumbest organization on Earth when it comes to filling holes on their roster.

What are the Sox trying to do here, really?
They spend their entire domestic pool every year. Depending on the 1st rounder, they go right up to the "lose next year's 1st round pick" limit. I don't know if you're referring to Atlanta or the White Sox buying long term assets for short term costs. The Sox get two rookie pitchers and Soroka for Bummer.

Yankees acquire Juan Soto in trade with Padres
I'm not sure what course they're staying. Their starting pitching is wanting. Rick Hahn didn't trade off all the dozens of top prospects to try to compete. We planned on one guy for each of about 7 positions, then never filled the rest.

Kimbrel close to deal with Orioles
Obviously for his nurturing relationship with Cease.

The Winter Meetings thread
Of course. More often than not, though, I think he was stealthy, with the odd message being sent through Nightengale. If this is a different style, I love it. I hated the lack of info.

Rule 5 Draft - Sox take LHP Shane Drohan from Boston

The Winter Meetings thread
All the "opposing GM's are waiting to take advantage of Chris Getz" talk aside. I really don't have a problem with his approach. Even if he signs Whit Merrifield and trades garbage for Salvy, it sounds like he's doing a normal job. The thing I wonder, however, if all this leaking is other GMs "taking advantage" of his lack of reputation. Rick Hahn somehow pulled off his work without a lot of leaking from any side. Maybe his tight-lip conduct inspired the same respect from other GMs, where Chris Getz has no rep, and nobody cares what he thinks, yet.

Rule 5 Draft - Sox take LHP Shane Drohan from Boston
For the player to suit up and play a AAA game, he'd have to be on the AAA roster. He can't be on multiple rosters at a time.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Well, yeah. Once one of them establishes themselves as the major league starter, trade the other.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Because teams have scouting departments who can see that the slight loss in velocity may be related to mechanics, and not injury or age? And even with the off year, Cease was still an above average pitcher. Just like teams won't be imagining that Blake Snell will win the Cy Young for the next 7 years.

Cease To Padres per Passan
Of course, but Cease held his own in 13 of those games. Or so. I can't seem to make B-R work, and maybe because I won't pay, But Cease isn't a worthless piece of human garbage who we should be sending a prospect along to move his money. I hyperbole. He's a significant starting pitcher in the game, right now. No, not Randy Johnson in his prime. But Dylan Cease has value. Perhaps the most of any available starting pitcher either a free agent, or being offered by his controlling team.

Sox Sign Erick Fedde - 2 years, $15 million
- The Winter Meetings thread
Maybe the owner's meetings had so many exploding, in-pants diarrhea incidents that everybody's too embarrassed to speak face to face.- Cease To Padres per Passan
A 100 loss team played .500 ball against all playoff teams when Dylan Cease started that game. They went 9-32 when other pitchers started against playoff teams. I can't readily break out Cease's splits against playoff teams on B-R. In those 16 starts, I think he was only blown out twice.- Cease To Padres per Passan
Just to note, Dylan Cease started 16 games against the eventual playoff teams. He lasted through 5 in 13 of those. The White Sox went 8-8 in those starts.- Your Personal Sox Likeability Hall Of Fame
Greg Norton, for sure. Had the adversity of his father killing his mother, and was raised by his older brother. I always had a soft spot for him based on that. Alan Bannister. He played in Korea for a winter, or something. They didn't slide on double plays, so when he whipped the relay, he nailed a runner right in the forehead. The runner got right up and ran to the dugout, so he thought the guy was okay. Turns out the player died in the next few days of a hemorrhage. I thought that must be a burden to carry through life. Dick Allen - Caught so much racist garbage early on in Philly. Then he daughter was murdered a little while back. Wilbur Wood - He just always seemed like a gentle and quiet guy. I always liked him. Walt Williams - went to a game with my Cub fan buddies back in the 80s. Walt Williams ran across the field, and I yelled "Hey, No-Neck". He stopped and turned. We waved, he got this big smile on his face and waved back. Greg Walker - I always thought he caught a bum rap as hitting coach. Seemed like a good guy. Francisco Barrios, Bobby Jenks, John Cangelosi, Harry Chappas.- Morosi: Wouldn’t be surprised if Robert is traded
I seem to remember Scott Boras getting involved in the A-Rod trade to the Yankees. A-Rod specifically didn't want the Yankees to clean house, that's why Alfonso Soriano had to be part of the return.- 10 for your personal Hall of Shame
Started out a White Sox. Traded for Roy Smalley Jr. Smalley sucked in his 2 months here. Roy Smalley would be an honorable mention for what he cost, and what he didn't deliver.- The Winter Meetings thread
The Erik Gonzalez era ended abruptly. I wonder if the Charlotte Knights move, now. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/12/reds-sign-erik-gonzalez.html - The Winter Meetings thread
