Gonzo has big upside, now that he's worked on his swing. I believe Pittsburgh "won" the trade". If the power is real, the trade could even move into the "regrettable" column in the coming years. They wanted Thome, tho. For all the talk of trading a #15 pick for a #34, if Thome has the make-up, talent and unrealized growth that's being thrown around, he could become a much more attractive prospect than Gonzo. I just think Gonzo's All-Star takes are a little out there at this point.

I agree with you that the Pirates "won" the trade. I just think that Getz accomplished what he set out to do, and there's other paths than a Gonzo trade for a starting pitcher.

I think a magic situation opened up with the Pirates looking for bullpen arms, and Konnor Griffin getting injured. Getz probably overpaid a bit, but if he can max out this draft class, it will have been worth it.
