Their 40-man is at 37. They seem to be interested in Pete Fairbanks, O'Hearn and they might want Tauchman back. Pick up any bullpen arm, and now you're cutting somebody. They probably just like the upside of Alexander and Paez better than Pallette.
Josh Nelson makes some good points that there's a couple great options at the top of the list. Grady Emerson might even be a better talent.
A challenger to Roch Cholowsky? Let the debate begin over who the White Sox will select first overall - Sox Machine
I would think that if they're ready to go 2/16 for a guy like Fairbanks, there's a bunch of Shingo Takatsu type dudes looking to pitch in the US for a season or two, that is, if they're just looking for a closer to anchor the bullpen for 4 months.
Am I in that group? Some of these guys are going to progress, and some are going to fall off. I see Quero as a guy whose middling power could never really develop, and he remains problematic in all aspects of the defensive game. Or he does develop and is fine. I think Teel's going to be the star.
This does seem to be a bit of a unique off-season when it comes to the catching market. It started developing at the deadline. It just feels like some teams are ready to take the gamble and develop a guy like Quero the rest of the way as their starter.
SoxMachine with day 1 notes:
White Sox open Winter Meetings with brighter days still out of view - Sox Machine
- Sox still looking to add starting pitching
- Tauchman described as "lost, for the time being" by Venable
- Getz not inclined to use Schultz, Hagen Smith or McDougal from bullpen
Wait, when was it announced that Taylor is going to be in the bullpen for the rest of his White Sox tenure? You're not just making that up based on nothing, are you?
The Sox have been pretty clear with how they were going to handle Taylor. The 100 inning plateau, spread over 33 starts means they're throwing a bullpen game every 5. It makes perfect sense to bring Taylor along similar to the way they used Vasil this last season.
You argued that the White Sox have so much talent in the minors. Can you explain what you're talking about, then? You seem to be arguing both sides of the issue, that the Sox have talent, but they don't.
