I wonder if they will just add Schwarber for 1 year now at DH since they still need LH power and keep Vaughn in the minors till August or until there is an injury.

Except that Bauer would require 150m and the savings from Eaton to Joc is a ONE TIME 3m-4m savings since its a one year deal. Its not like you are dumping a player owed 75m in order to make room for another big contract. We are talking pennies in savings in the big picture. In order to believe Eatom represents an attempt to find money for Bauer you would have to believe the Sox are somehow offering him 147m despite JR never paying pitchers or anyone for that matter above 100m, and you'd have to also believe Bauer wanting 150m and JR telling the FO no, find me that extra 3m in savings to justify the deal. LOL. The only aspect of this which would be believable is that they are targeting Bauer because he's an ahole since it seems the Sox hated their young roster of fun personalities and now instead strongly prefer aholes. They already addressed TOR and that was Lynn and that was only done cause it was cheap financially. Its over. The only place left in the rotation is like 4/5 anyway. Anyway JR isn't going to give Bauer 150m when he can take that money to the grave instead.

If they are dicking around with 1m or 2m differences in deciding OF choice do you think they are going to spend 150m on a pitcher? Lynn was the TOR addition....and its cause it was only 8m. Joc's batted ball data was pretty strong suggesting that the true culprit was bad luck. Im not saying the offspeed stuff isn't an issue but I think the luck is a bigger issue and by the time of the playoffs it started to turn as positive regression probably started kicking in. If he can hit 240/350/470 as a platoon RF I am perfectly fine with that.

As others have said, its not really in Rick's hands anymore and so I cannot really blame him for this. He had a vision as to how this window would work and the principles that would govern it but JR has pretty much torched that. He's gonna have to fight TLR just to have a say in the decisions now, much less have any veto power.

He's sticking his neck out tho a bit on the FA OF issue. Its hard to say accelerated discussions on that point and then nothing happens for 3-4 days hes gonna get attacked again.

Sounds like Joc is close and maybe a bit further away might be a Lynn or Darvish trade but those are a bit murkier.

We could prolly get both Joc and Schwarber for around 18m-19m combined in terms of 2021 payroll. That's alot of mega LH power for not a ton of money. If they can make the musical chairs game work in terms of LF/DH/1B with Eloy, Schwarber, Abreu and Vaughn, the lineup would be armed to the teeth.

Logistically the only way to really make it work is stringing Vaughn out longer in the minors.

He had an unlucky year. His batted ball data was very good...he should benefit from positive regression this year.
