  1. Ofcourse he will play the control card, but that doesn't change the fact that absent injury there's no reason to think he won't be in Chicago at latest by early 2021 and realistically he should be MLB ready by late 2020.
  2. We don't want them to try to spend, we want them to actually spend. They can easily afford a 3/60 deal for Ryu. They could also get creative and "spend" by getting a cost controlled proven 2/3 pitcher thru offering a combination of absorbing a bad contract and some lesser mid level prospects rather than doing something stupid like trading Vaughn.
  3. I disagree. Vaughn is ahead of where Madrigal was at the same respective point last year in terms of WRC+ in A and A+. I think you can put his name at 1B in permanent marker. It would be beyond pathetic if they were forced to trade him for a SP. Just spend some damn money.
  4. I wonder if the Sox are putting this out there to get the Dodgers to accept their offer on Joc.
  5. I don't think anyone is expecting that by he is projected for a hair over 3 WAR next year. If he can give us three 3 WAR seasons that would be fine at at a salary around 17m a year.
  6. We'd prolly be right at 125m payroll wise with Ryu and Ozuna. I think we are at 86 or so right now.
  7. Yeah I also got the distinct impression it was Ryu. Who knows maybe it's both. If the Sox put 125m on the table for Wheeler, they could probably get both Ozuna and Ryu for the same combined dollars (or perhaps a bit more). 3/60 for Ryu and maybe 4/65 for Ozuna?
  8. Looking at his splits, even though he's a RHH he hits like a LHH in that he's much better vs righties than lefties. He had an abnormally low babip so perhaps they are counting on positive regression as well. I still don't see how he fits in the OF though. He isn't a competent RF and there's no place for Eloy except DH if Ozuna is in left (we would still have a RF hole to fill). Unless Hahn is officially giving up on Eloy as a fielder, is gonna put Ozuna in left, still trade a bullpen piece for Joc in RF and then trade all the minor league OFers in a quantity based package for a pitcher.
  9. Yeah Bruce implying Ryu by the sound of it.
  10. The Cubs need to shed salary for Baez and Bryant extensions, right? So why would Darvish cost alot in other assets? I mean besides the political aspect where Theo can't look like he's getting fleeced by Hahn again.
  11. I would hope they would have learned from last year not to be stunned by anything and to always have some contingency plans, but who knows. Rabbit said like a week or so ago they were working on alot of possible trade things, I would assume some of them involved pitchers of Wheeler fell thru. If BOS is willing to eat half of the 150 they owe Sale, I'd definitely take him back if he passed our medical exam for the elbow. I heard he gets along fine with Rick it's just KW he doesn't like.
  12. I expect Hahn to find a suitable 2/3 type pitcher. It shouldn't be Madbum. It shouldn't be Ryu on a 4 year deal. Keuchel isn't a 2/3. That the FA market is out of options isn't our problem. If you know going in you can't go for the top two you need a reasonable plan if your top guy goes elsewhere and the others are flawed. And said reasonable plan cannot include dealing away key pieces or prospects in the rebuild. Figure it out. Get a three way trade done. Eat a bad 2 year deal from a team with good prospects and have them send them to a third team for a good pitcher.
  13. We have to address the issue via trade now...maybe 3 team trade cause the prospects we are willing to move aren't the prospects people want. So maybe the Sox eat a bad contract from Team A, Team A sends more attractive prospects to Team B, Team B sends good pitcher under control for awhile to the Sox. I don't see how it works other than this unless you think Boras will accept 3 years for Ryu and I'm not seeing it. The FA market is thinning out so he can probably force a 4th year and we dont want to go there with an injury prone 32 year old. Go make the 3 team trade Rick.
  14. Ashley Rodon might come across as more credible if she took the time to actually spell role properly for it's usage. Therefore, I'm calling BS.
  15. The Sox are gonna have to find their guy by trade most likely and since we aren't giving up Robert/Madrigal/Kopech/Vaughn, a big part of the compensation to get back a good cost controlled starter is gonna have to be eating a bad contract plus someone like Basabe and maybe more.
  16. 5/120 is alot. Get Ryu for 3/60 if you can. They have to act fast in terms of FA or trade to thwart the rising anger.
  17. Even if they don't get Wheeler it's premature to say the off-season or even how they addressed SP was a failure until we see: a) what Wheeler signed for, b) what signings or trades we did at SP and for the roster in general and the relative costs involved there as well. However, it is absolutely fair game to question if Abreu's contract prevented them from having the needed flexibility to close the deal on Wheeler.
  18. This still doesn't tell me why he should give up 5 million dollars. That's not insignificant.
  19. Why would he turn down 5m to play for us? That by itself is a nice apartment building that can produce income indefinitely. He should and likely will take the best offer. The location is irrelevant.
  20. Problem is once Wheeler is gone, Boras will have the Sox cornered and he will drag it out until March and before you know it 3/60 turns into 4/85 which is alot for a 32 year old glass joe.
  21. Yep. I will personally blame Greg if we lose to someone who offered 5 years. Greg is vicariously responsible for the Abreu deal.
