  1. I think the Sox need to get whatever they can out of him now before the inevitable TJS.
  2. Now one of the foodies is backing off in his confidence....."50/50" and "they hate bidding wars"....lol. Once again unable to play with the big boys.
  3. Who thinks Cohen will instruct Alderson to do whatever it takes financially to win the bidding just to pay JR back for trying to block him from owning the Mets? (Raises hand)
  4. Yep. This seems like the most realistic outcome. Thanks, JR
  5. But from what the foodies have suggested, we could get him now at 3/39 and the Sox are around 3/33. Better to get it wrapped up at 3/39 than to wait till January and have JR unwilling to match say the Dodgers at 3/45 or getting into 4 year deals.
  6. So if that's the case why is Hendriks still unsigned? I think we have learned from Machado that things don't get better with time if you try to wait them out. Also, as teams with larger budgets lose out on other players they will eventually turn to this guy too and we will get priced out. If they are saying we need to go cheap in RF to get our closer then get the closer.
  7. Was this like today? If so does that mean he just wants to get a deal done with Chicago?
  8. It would appear that the "I'm a Hall of Fame Baseball Person" affirmative defense is well settled in Arizona caselaw.
  9. Perhaps if the owner wasn't taking a blowtorch to all the hard work his FO did to create this exciting young team by trying to instead live in the past while at same time failing to act in good faith in terms of making necessary investments to win a title, then people wouldn't be "bent out of shape."
  10. It would be hard to argue with 2.3 fwar for just 7 million dollars. I see his 107 wRC+ which is just OK but what was it vs RHP? Does anyone know? On the other hand, if Joc returns to his former self with like 30 bombs and like .350 OBP for just 3-4m more.....then even an OK Eaton year might still leave some of us less than thrilled. It also depends on whether they close the deal with Hendriks and how he performs too. So I'd have to look at all three to see how well or poorly the decision was.
  11. Is this code for "JR forced the FO to cut bait on Hendriks and I'm trying to give you guys advance notice"?
  12. This is precisely what I expect to happen. I hope no one plays a drinking game based on the number of times the FO blames the pandemic in the aftermath of losing him, at least not if you care for your liver. If he was really the "top priority" we wouldn't be still haggling right now a week later. The longer we wait, the higher chance other teams will circle back into the bidding. If they're really scrounging for a couple million, might as well ship ReyLo off for scraps to erase a bit of payroll, since there's really no use for him now.
  13. I'm very worried he will win the argument at the deadline to unload Kopech and/or Vaughn for a short term bandaid. Since JR isn't gonna be around much longer anyway he doesn't care about the medium term and long term portions of the window so he will sacrifice whatever it takes* for the next 2-3 years. * Except for money
  14. Then there's no point in getting excited about anything. This is the ONLY one of my sports teams that legitimately has a good future to look forward to and now its crap.
  15. The Tony part is worrisome but yeah if the FO has lost all its juice to a guy who hasn't managed in like 10 years then we have bigger problems than Joc vs Eaton. Still, aside from that, I dont see a problem with his reps asking for multiple years. He's only 28, a proven LH power hitter with good OBP over his career and righty killer and his batted ball data was pretty decent this year despite the poor numbers which is a good sign going forward. In other words I dont see whats unreasonable about agents asking for multiple years. I mean realistically what are we talking about when we say multiple? Like 3? I dont think 3/33 is unreasonable and its not like there are a ton of cant miss guys in his way coming up soon. Rutherford is also a platoon guy but so far much less power than Joc. Luis Gonzalez even worse. Colas will prolly need a couple years in the minors and whenever he makes the majors there will be an adjustment period. Im not sure we want a starting RF struggling to adjust in the middle of the window. You sign Joc and pair him with Engel and youre in good shape the next few years at a reasonable price until Colas is ready. Its a fraction of the price of Springer for maybe 80 percent of the production. I would think JR would like that calculus. Unless they nab a huge LH power bat as a DH (Schwarber) this was a poor move, regardless of TLR's preference. Im still really pissed off about it. Its just stuck in my craw right now. Joc is a .240/.350/.470 guy and even better vs RHP. That literally would have been perfect to protect Eloy in like the 5 hole. We were barely above average last year against RHP and the vast majority of the division is RHP. I dont get WTF the team thinks they are doing to solve the issue. Eatons bat scares no one at this point. They need to add Schwarber.
  16. If you aren't 100 percent sure you will add someone dont go out of your way to build up fan expectations about landing said player. And no I don't care if they "thought" they would get him at that point. Their thoughts and 50 cents are worth a mediocre cup of coffee. So to me they have to convert on Hendriks. It doesn't matter if it's 3/40 or 3/45 or whatever the market bears. They blew a simple layup on Joc so they better damn well deliver regardless of which teams get involved in the chase. They made this bed let them sleep in it.
  17. Hahn was super smug and arrogant about Machado too and JR pulled the rug out from under him financially then too.
  18. Obviously.....no one wants to be a backup in a FA showcase year.
  19. Does this help with Hendriks? If the fear was Dombrowski would jump in....if they are gonna resign Realmuto wouldn't that suggest they probably aren't gonna get Hendriks too?
  20. Here's the thing, if they really had 30m left to spend rather than having 30m before including Lynn and Eaton, there would be no reason to go cheap on Joc. Because with Joc instead of Eaton, we'd have 26m left instead of 30m, more than enough to sign Hendriks even at his current demand (13) plus another SP (10). If they are pinching pennies in RF, it suggests its more likely they had 30m total to spend, NOT 30m left.
  21. Rosenthal says 4 yrs/40m deal with NYM. Good for James. It was well earned and I am happy for him. Sad to see him go.
  22. With 15m left, yeah they are in a bind cause 13 for Hendriks means they only have 2m left for camp fodder or like a backup C. Even if they are at 10-11 for Hendriks as I think one of the foodies was suggesting that would still leave only like 4-5 left for another SP and nothing for a LH bat even if Hendriks accepted that which I doubt. Meanwhile the longer we wait the more likely someone swoops in to take Hendriks.
  23. Hendriks 3/39 (13 AAV) Quintana 1/10 Schwarber 1/6
