I have seen some articles where they appear to be legit giddy about him. There's prolly some fluff in there but we dont even see some fluff about Cespedes. I think he starts in High A but he could move fast if his power translates into games. In their eyes, a one year Joc/Rosario thing is a win/win. It preserves flexibility for the potential for Colas to be ready and it's cheap. I think the odds of Joc/Rosario is probably significantly greater than 50% at this point. They misallocated resources, and are seemingly unable to dump bad contracts on others so they are stuck.

In an ideal world they would sign both Conforto and Schwarber but ofcourse they are too busy wasting money on Tony's unhealthy obsession with relievers and scrubs, and have too many bat only players already and are too cheap to meaningfully address the need.

I think the issue may be more with opt outs. Conforto was in line for a 150m deal before he had a bad year. Boras wants to preserve the ability to get out of a cheaper deal if he bounces back. I dont think we will agree to that unless we get an opt out too and Boras won't agree to that.

If I were Scott Merkin, I'd be pissed that the club isn't sticking to its side of the bargain. The way this transactional relationship is supposed to work is that he makes excuses for them, butters them up, sucks them off and finds creative ways to twist himself into a pretzel in order to justify all their moves and in exchange for him constantly putting lipstick on a pig he is supposed to get some scoops, but I don't see Merkin getting that many scoops.

But what's the point if they aren't going to use the savings in a meaningful* way? *And by meaningful, I mean using it in a way other that stuffing JRs pocket or spending it on multiple scrubs instead of one legit good player.
