Only JR knew of new TLR DUI upon interview and hire
SoCalChiSox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ofcourse JR wouldn't share it with his senior staff. He knew from the start they would resist TLR just on the merits even apart from the DUI so if they learned about it, RH or KW would likely leak to the press in order to create a PR storm that would have torpedoed the hiring. Obviously, JR did not want to get out maneuvered so he no doubt had to keep it to himself. Pretty sad and pathetic. -
Salary is prohibitive even if LAD eats alot of it.

Great....another right hander.

Dodgers sign Bauer (3/102, opt-outs, 40-45-17)
SoCalChiSox replied to Jose Abreu's topic in The Diamond Club
Seriously. Have they not been paying attention the last two months when everything has completely gone to hell and even vaccine rollout has been a disaster. There was never any scientific projections that everything was going to be back to 100 percent normal by April or anywhere near normal. On what basis did they even make this assumption? Its like a stunning failure to comprehend even the most rudimentary aspects of the pandemic. I can't believe they ever thought the union would roll over and bail them out by agreeing to delay the season. -

Harold....why did we suddenly get tapped out now when I thought after Hendriks there was at least 8m left to spend just on another SP and allegedly another 7m for a bat? How did that 15m suddenly become 3m overnight? Was it just an inaccurate number to begin with? -
It also would be self defeating. We are trying to create a decent enough sized window such that hopefully in one of those years they catch a few breaks and somehow turn it into a championship. If you give up Kopech and Vaughn, you are dramatically reducing the size of the window, especially given that ownership is militant about not spending in FA to address needs. Robbing Peter to pay Paul isn't exactly a great idea for us.

Yeah that isn't a feasible proposal. If, however, out of the kindness of his heart, David Price is willing to forego his entire existing guaranteed contract and sign a minor league deal for 1 year that tops out at 1.5m if he hits all incentives, including winning the Cy Young, then it may be something we look at. -

Outside of the fact that its a short term deal, Luba owned Friedman. -

White Sox adding Jerry Narron as Major League instructor

Hopefully he can help Collins become a solid backup C. -
No way his BA will be anywhere near as low as Grandal. Vaughn should be 280-300.

MLB considering 154 game and delayed schedule
SoCalChiSox replied to flavum's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Parkman is correct as to the high degree of variance that short series playoffs bring. Look how long the Dodgers were probably the best team and yet the randomness of the playoffs made it such that it took forever for them to actually win a title. Home field and all that stuff doesn't make that much difference as compared to other sports in the playoffs. The incentive to suppress salaries is much greater than to spend 30m more in budget to get a bye or have one extra playoff home game. The cost benefit isn't worth it due to luck and matchups in the draw you get dictating alot of what happens. -

Good point about spending incentives. Yet another reason for the union to reject this -

Its alot more lucrative to the owners than the players. And fan pressure is exactly what the owners are counting on in order to turn something they really want from a novelty into an expectation. The union should reject this at once. An expanded postseason also is bad for us. -

The union would be dumb to accept this. The most important sword the union can wield in the CBA talks is the expanded postseason but the owners know if you have expanded postseason two years in a row and fans like it, it puts alot of pressure for the union to agree to it in the future, and at that point it becomes impossible to put the toothpaste back in the tube. -
We still have a black hole at DH and its very possible that we still have a black hole at RF too. That said, I do expect the team to be better. Im not sure the winning percentage will be better than last year as matching the .583 would translate to around 95 wins and I think that's right around where we should be, but the team should still be better even if doesn't show in terms of pure W-L. We can expect growth from Robert, the old Moncada, Lynn adding alot of value as well as Kopech and Hendriks. I do expect some regression from Keuchel, Abreu and probably Anderson.

LMAO....April Fool's Day isn't for a couple months, you're a little early there bro.

And 2/20 would have been perfectly reasonable given that we need a bridge to Colas/Cespedes who can at the same time be a key contributor to the first part of the window.
