  1. It's the hope owners have, to break the union by having those guys in that mid level stand up and say "what the fuck, let's play." It's those mid level players who should be fighting for a cap and floor instead. Without a floor, a lot of of those $8 million - $12 million aging veterans go away very quickly in place of cheap labor. Look at the NBA, 30+ year old veterans go collecting checks for a very long time and for big $$$ while logging less than a dozen minutes per night.
  2. As soon as they take the field, you'll be back.
  3. Vaughn has to play somewhere, and it's not going to be DH. So unless he's being traded, I don't see how the Sox can go sign Conforto. I believe RF and DH will be a mix and mitch situation, and that's not a bad thing. Especially if we wat to keep Grandal's bat in the lineup when he doesn't catch. Grandal to 1B would be the option with Abreu taking a day off at DH, especially with a good LH pitcher on that night. 2B is the most glaring hole on this team. That's where I'd focus all my attention.
  4. $1 million to purchase publicity in their favor, smart move.
  5. Salary cap and floor is what this defines. Players are scared of that. Can't have it both ways.
  6. This is where the fight should be, if players truly "cared" about the game. The minor league players keep getting fucked.
  7. So tired reading this BS from players also. If they truly wanted to "improve" the game then they'd buy into a salary floor which would then also lead to a cap with it. Pushing the Tax to the higher levels only helps the rich get richer. Force the Pirates, Indians, Rays, Royals, As to spend with a floor.
  8. So by cancelling games here, are they in essence manipulating service time once again since it will be a shortened season?
  9. You'll still be contributing one way or another.
  10. Right, while a War situation is escalating in that hemisphere.
  11. So Jeff Passan stops reporting when the news is positive ?. Typical. National Dan Bernstein.
  12. OK, let's not get carried away here. Neither the owners or the players truly give a fuck about the fans. If I'm on the player's side, I'd welcome the added playoff bonuses. Especially giving more players who make the minimum an added check or two from postseason and more important marketing opportunities in the grand stage.
  13. I don't understand the players' stubbornness on the extra playoff opportunities. Yes, it water downs the regular season, but why plant your flag on this issue?
  14. To avoid starvation, as southsider2k5 said, in a heartbeat.
  15. That's the dumbest thing I've ever read. a) MLB is not saying they are cutting everyone's pay to $0 (to "starve"). Players are still going to make a ton of money when this is all done. b) There are other leagues around the world (Japan, Korea, Mexico) which will pay you a decent wage for you not to " starve." c) If baseball were to go away for good (which isn't happening), these guys are plenty healthy and some have college education to go find jobs elsewhere to not "starve."
  16. Unfortunately, he is still the only constant in that lineup every season. That's hard to replace.
  17. I cringe when I hear "integrity of the game", from both sides.
  18. Burger showed last year that he is a ML caliber player
  19. When cord coding exploded 7-8 years ago, there were affordable options to replace cable/dish. Slowly that's been going by the waste, as RSNs were being dropped by carriers and those that held them like YouTube, HULU Live TV, etc, are making customers pay a premium. I recall YouTube TV being $35 per month when I cut the cord and now it's up to $65-$70. While that still beats Comcast and Direct TV, I began starting to question having to pay this much just to watch my local teams. Especially having season tickets to the Sox and being at the park for 30+ games per year. I watch close to ZERO "other" TV outside of local sports. I get my local channels with a good antenna, and that covers my TV needs to go with Netflix, Hulu (non Live). In other words, I'd be more than willing to pay $20 per month for this.
  20. I think with RSNs starting to pull out of cable service exclusivity, blackout rules might start going away soon. At the very least, RSNs would allow their content being distributed on the MLB.TV platforms to everyone.
  21. If true, this could be the greatest cord cutting news since cord cutting became a thing. Fingers crossed.
  22. Came exclusively to this place when the over sensitive / censored WSI folded. That place was the original "cancel culture."
