That's probably what he's worth right now. Like I said, I'm not quite sure what to think of Collins right now. He's not really the player Robert or Madrigal are, so I'm kinda "scared" to just plug him in and hope for the best in a year they should be competing. I suppose with all the talent around him, you could live with Collins at DH and trade for one at the deadline if need be.
-
Eff it... Trade Collins+ for Mazara and sign Grandal 1. Robert CF 2. Madrigal 2B 3. Moncada 3B # 4. Eloy LF 5. Abreu DH 6. Grandal 1B # 7. Anderson SS 8. McCann C 9. Mazara LF *

I wish I knew what to think about Collins. I want Grandal, but i also wanna keep McCann and know Abreu will be back(the hope is Grandal agrees to play full time 1B). I feel like Collins value is probably too low to trade him for something decent enough to make it worth it while also not feeling good enough about him to rely on him as a full time 1B.

Abreu “as valuable as anything” to Sox: Merkin

Yeah, Belt seems to be a horrible suggestion. I'd rather keep Jose for 2 years. Belt even the year before had an OPS just a touch over .750. Hoping he might be more than that, when you're hoping to compete seems like a bad idea. If you completely give up on Jose, you're gonna have 1B and DH to fill, assuming Collins isnt an answer.....Finding 2 guys that will give you more than jose might prove difficult to find. Has Grandal ever played 1B? Would he take a DH role? I know he has really struggled in the 2nd half, but I'd really like to see McCann given another year to handle the young staff. -

Discounting OBP is just silly......OPS is my favorite measure and its nothing new age or anything like that so its easy for "non stat lovers like yourself." Right now among 1st baseman with 200 or more plate appearances, Jose is 20th in OPS. That's hard to discount. The issue right now is who do you replace him with? They apparently are not high on Collins or so it seems. The market for 1B/DH seems thin. -
Is it possible that Jose is just, oh idk, a streaky hitter? Its not like dude sucks until the end of the year when "There's no pressure." He's had plenty of good months pre all star break over the years. I'd have no problem moving on from him, but the alternatives don't look all that great on the open market next year either.
-
Another similar thing to think about, is the defense is always ahead of the offense in training camp because the defense is so familiar with the offense.
-
I think they need to give Collins are real hard look down the stretch. Sox need a LH bat or 2 in the lineup next year and ya gotta see if Collins can be one of those guys.
-
Trade Colome for pieces you may have to trade for a closer??? It's clear they wanna try and compete next year, so are you comfortable going into the season with potentially Aaron Bummer as your closer?

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
scs787 replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Who do you trust to put up better numbers than Jose?? Or what 2 guys I should say. If you say Eloy, that's creating another hole. I think Jose stays another 2 years. -
You putting Lopez or Gonzalez in the pen? I'd be looking into adding someone like Dane Dunning(to go with Dane Dunning) that has upside but you can still stash in the minors in case of injury.
-
What happens if Lopez continues to pitch great down the stretch? Do you still think they add 2 SPs(from it's current state)? Adding Gonzalez puts them at Gio-Kopech-Gonzalez-Cease-Lopez going into next season.
-
Unless they wanna give up on Lopez I don't like this. Giolito-Kopech-Cease-Lopez are all probably penciled in to the rotation and I'd feel a whole lot more comfortable adding a proven TOR guy to that group.
-
Sox could obviously use a LH bat or 2. RF is the clearest hole they have, along with DH if they think Vaughn takes a little time and they don't wanna just role with Collons. Who are some potential LH OF targets? I know we talked about Benintendi, who I'd love but also don't want to give up a ton to get. Mazara in the lower 3rd of the order wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Just so I'm clear here.... In 2021 the Bulls can theoretically sign 2 max players while also holding on to Lavine, Lauri, White, and Carter....Correct? They can hypothetically sign 2 guys and then go over the cap to resign Lauri???
-
Would that not be a potentially really desirable spot? I mean sure, White and Carter could certainly be busts, and Lavine and Markkanen can never get any better, but let's assume otherwise. That's a squad right there. The winning starts this year IMO.
-
I'm with Jason here. I know it's never happened before, but if the Bulls can develop this core and create a winning culture, this should be the sexy destination in 2021. If Lavine and Lauri take that next step you're talking about 2 stars. If the Bulls can develop White and Carter into even just good players over the next 2 years, it's gonna be hard to deny that adding a guy like Giannis or Kawhi doesn't make them a title contender.
-
You think they got room to bring back Thabo? Will they have the minutes to do so?
-
Bulls went from a D League bench to PG- Sato- A guy who has shown he's a capable starter in the league. SG- Valentine- Sato will get minutes here, but people forget DV actually shot the ball well from beyond the arc 2 years ago. SF- Hutch- Looked decent as a rookie. PF- Young- A proven role player and solid veteran presence C- Kornet- A 7 footer with a reliable 3 point shot. . You could argue that Sato and/or Young start, but the narrative fits either way.
-
Why can't the Bulls be good? Why isn't Zach Lavine considered a star? Most of us think Lauri can be a star. Otto Porter is at least a 4th guy on a championship team. We hope Coby White "Could be a star." Julius Randle is another guy just like Lavine who is on cusp of being a star, if he's not already there.. I've been behind getting Brogdon over Randle, but Randle is intriguing me a bit more right. Can they get both Randle and Beverly??
-
I truly believe we'll be "Getting back to you this offseason." I don't feel like running through the numbers again, but I remember there have been several times in the last 15 years or so that the sox payroll has been in the top 10 in baseball. So while they haven't spent the money on the top free agents, they have indeed spent money. With all the home grown, young, cost controlled talent on this team now is the time I think they can and will spend big on top guys. We saw last year a willingness to spend big time money and it just didn't work out. I think they'll look to be even more aggressive this offseason.

What do you guys make of the Julius Randle rumors? Offensively it'd be fun, but that could get very ugly defensively. -

Didnt they pick up the pace of play as the season went on?
