I think I'd go XM too, if only for the MLB package. I'm still a while away from even considering pay radio, though.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) Indeed about the Human Tornado. I always laugh in a mark fashion at his gimmick hometown (can't post it here without getting in trouble but available on his Wiki site -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Tornado) Plus, he's good in the ring. Edit: Fun factoid of the night: CHIKARA kayfabe commisioner is...::drum roll:: Bob Saget. Yes, the Bob Saget. He's a fun character, but the whole "Steel Nuts" thing is KINDA hard to believe, even for wrestling. Even the dumbest rasslin fan knows that getting hit in the balls hurts. Take that basic truth of life away from them and NOTHING will make sense anymore. And if that Human Tornado kid ever wants to make it in the business, he better start hitting the gym, with or without 'roids. He's got quite the Boom Boom Washington/JJ Walker look going on there....

I'd consider paying for radio, but not for Stern. I was tired of his act long before he left for satellite. I enjoyed O&A when they were on in Chicago before, but I don't think I'll listen now. I basically listen to news radio or sports talk, or my iPod (when it feels like working).

That's my problem with the big outdoor shows. Generally speaking, if you have 4 bands you want to see on a given day, the odds are that two of them will be playing at the same time WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY the gosh darn on opposite ends of the concert staging. That happens every year at Summerfest and it happened to me when I went to the Warped Tour 5 or 6 years ago. That's why I stopped going to the bigger outdoor fests. Of course, my problem with both years of the Chicago-based Lolla is that I only wanted to see 4 bands total for the 2 (last year) and 3 (this year) days. So assuming that I'd have to choose between two of them at each time, it would cost 75 bucks to see an hour's set of each. No, thanks, Perry, keep it.

QUOTE(DePloderer @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 06:26 AM) So who else is going to next Saturdays game? It would be nice to meet some of you. I'm going to be there, but: 1. I'm in the lousy stinking useless upper deck and 2. I'll have my daughter with me, which means I rarely stray from my seats. Enjoy the game, though, Plod, and bring the Sox some UK MOJO!!!

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 03:08 PM) What does HR stand for? Did I miss it in an earlier post? Hiring Rep? Human Resources

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 12:59 PM) Bingo, thats what the problem is with a flamethrower. Yeah, but that's more of a case where you tip your cap to someone if they can get to it. It's not going to happen all that often.

That Russian heiress is frightening. Looks about twice her posted age of 21. Yikes.

QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 12:39 PM) Seems like Randy Orton is doing a hell of a job by making you guys hate him. If you hate him because he uses a head lock every once in awhile, that's shame. Just because he doesn't do high spot after high spot, doesn't make him a bad wrestler. They guy has ring psychology mastered and knows how to sell moves. Say what you want about his mic work, but I think he does a good job. He has that heel tone down pat. And don't reference the horrible Orton Knows Best segment this past Monday. I doubt he had much input into it. Maybe more people would like him if he fell onto some lightbulbs and jumped off a roof through a table. The fact is he doesn't need to do that stuff to get over. Where is TRU to have my back? He just bores me. I wouldn't (didn't) like him as a face either, so at least for me it's not his gimmick or "role" that makes me dislike him. I've just never enjoyed anything he's done, and whenever he appears I want him off my TV screen as soon as humanly possible. For all the talk I hear about what a great athlete he is, you'd think he'd develop something unique to him and not steal the Diamond Cutter for his finisher. For me, he's just too dull on the stick and dull in the ring.

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 12:31 PM) Problem with a 100 MPH fireballer is that if a strong hitter gets a hold of a high fastball, its going to go. Thats just how it works. I didn't see the game, so I cant comment on how Jenks looked, but he struck out the side so I guess he did pretty decent. With the exception of the high heater to Glaus (which Glaus hit out by not over-swinging, letting the fastball supply the power), Jenks looked really good. He was getting the hook over, which almost always means doom for opposing hitters. The gun on the screen had Bobby at 96-98.

After release from White Sox, Widger still wants to play
The Critic replied to Goldmember's topic in The Diamond Club
Well, Widge will get a chance to play this year after all. As Lord Chas mentioned, Baltimore picked him up after dealing Lopez to Boston. FWIW, I thought he came off a bit whiny too, but I'm thinking it's just hurt feelings and wanting to stay in Chicago. -
I'd think the Sox are satisfied with their bench enough to pass on Cruz. I dont think his defensive advantage over Mackowiak (if there even is one) would be enough to override Mack's offensive advantage. It'll take a better player than Cruz to have the Sox make a move, I think.

I saw a little bit of SuckDown! last night, and I thought Chavo really dropped the ball on his promo. He had a great chance to develop his character and play off some real emotion, and he blew it.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 08:59 AM) I hear Talladega Nights is awful. I can't imagine it could be good. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) Saw Clerks 2, eh kinda funny, but the humor gets repetitive. Rental. I liked it OK, but I thought it was wrong somehow to turn Randal and Dante all mushy towards each other. Their feelings about each other were clearly implied by the basic fact that they tolerated each other at all. No need to go all Brokeback Mooby's about it.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 09:35 PM) Somebody also needs to bring Aerosmith some drugs and booze while they are at it also. Yeah, and while they're at it, get Metallica b****spifff***ing drunk and shove a f***ingb****spiffpile of coke up Dave Mustaine's nose too.

When u thought Cub fans couldnt get dumber...

QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 03:20 PM) I'm glad you understood my post, I read it back and realized it didn't make sense at all. haha I meant...I hear from so many Cub fans that "those" fans are just the bandwagon fans. Yet I'll talk baseball with them and I get the same stuff. Mispronouncing their own players names, saying it's all about the "Wrigley experience", actually believing it's the best park in baseball, etc. So they end up being just another bandwagon fan. I'm wondering, where are all these "real" fans?! My cousin, my best friend at work, two of my nephews, my goalie from back in my hockey days.... I have great baseball discussions with all of them all the time, and they are all die-hard Cub fans. Not only do they know the names of current Cubs, they know Cub history (not much HAPPY history, but it is history) and they know a LOT about baseball in general. The Bleacher Creatures ARE the vocal, stupid, glorified stereotype, and real Cub fans are embarrassed to be associated with them. No one I know will sit in the bleachers anymore, because that's where most of the stupid behavior takes place. -
I think it was good of MLB to let Chorizo get a "taste" of life in the bigs. It gave him some much-needed "seasoning" to prepare him for next year, when he gets called up for good.

When's he gonna be benched for "defensive indifference"?

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 09:41 AM) Anyone going to Lolla? I'm not, but if you are going and need a break from the musical mush , my buddy's improv group is playing the Mindfield stage on Friday at 6:00 pm. They're called Schadenfreude, and they're pretty good, actually.

This team's offseason decisions are mostly going to relate to pitching. Right field is SET for next year, barring an injury. Any money they'd spend searching for a "better fit" in RF would be better spent on a leadoff-hitting LEFT fielder, now that Podsednik has apparently stopped bunting and stealing bases. The idea of replacing someone on the abstract basis of "decline", while said player is still producing at a very respectable rate, is strange to me. You shouldn't replace areas of strength until you've addressed areas of weakness.

Just go on a nice date and maybe give her a (not too sappy) card. Don't over-do the month thing................because you're setting a precedent.............
