  1. QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) apparently we say pop and sox weird, according to my girlfriend. also brats, well that one was a given. Yeah, it comes out PAHHHHHP and SAHHHHHHKS. But everyone in my old neighborhood said "SHIH-KAWW-GO", not CHICAHHHHHGO. With my wife having grown up in Wisconsin, the differences in dialect and accent are very fun to point out. Water Fountain in Chicago = Bubbler in Wisconsin Couch = Sofa ( or on occasion, Davenport ) Milk = MELK and so on, and so on......
  2. My suicide note would read: "EEEBIDDY EEEBIDDY EEEBIDDY, THAT'S ALLLLLLL, FOLKS!!!!" and then I'd write BANG on a flag sticking out of a gun. I would be the coolest suicider ever.
  3. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) My coffee mug has completely vanished. This is starting to creep me out. .....what's it worth to ya?......
  4. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) Wow, that was horrible. Enjoy. It may be a horrible song, but there's nothing bad at all about watching a happy 3-year-old dance around the house!! Glad to help, SFF!!!
  5. Could it be "Popcorn" by Hot Butter? A goofy 70's song. That's what came to mind when you described it.
  6. QUOTE(winodj @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 09:01 PM) I should say that those are paraphrase marks, not quotation marks. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. There goes my post, then...... ....why I oughta.... ....is that a personal attack via smiley??? AY'M YOOST KEEEDEEEENG!!!!!!
  7. QUOTE(DePloderer @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 04:35 PM) I'm sorry, but is this game for real? Yes. You stand a certain length away from the wooden planks and try to throw beanbags through the holes in the planks. Despite sounding stupid, it's actually quite fun, especially the more drunkerer you get!
  8. QUOTE(winodj @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) "even though I support it, I'm vetoing it." Forget announcing his candidacy. Forget the campaigning. Forget appearing on a ballot. Forget winning the election. Forget getting sworn in. THIS STATEMENT officially makes Ahhhhhhhnuld a politician!!!! Classic flip-flop doublespeak base-covering at its finest ( and by finest I mean worst and most condescending ).
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 03:50 PM) Dead ball era. Totally different story. Well, the thread DOES say "...in club history", so all eras qualify. This is a damn fine rotation, though.
  10. QUOTE(bmags @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 10:32 AM) its debatable whether they get to be happy through marriage. No, but they get the chance. Like any other consenting adults would. That's what the debate is IMO. FWIW, I agree with Kid's take on it. If two adults of any gender want to ATTEMPT ( since I am well aware of the divorce statistics ) to spend the rest of their lives together in a committed relationship, I feel no need, want or desire to stand in their way. It doesn't affect me, so I don't want to affect it.
  11. Put Maddux in the bullpen and bring him in any time the Cubs have the lead with 2 outs in the 5th. He could win 20!!!!!! I don't care either way if he wins 15. I like listening to the radio when the Cubs are losing, just to hear the groaning and "awwww jeeeeeeeez"es from That Old Cub, Ron "What Hall Of Fame?" Santo.
  12. Well, the CORE OF THE CORE will certainly push the number over the 30K mark tonight...... I will give you a general and specific "excuse" for not wanting to go to any of the games vs. the Royals: Specific: Tuesday: bought a car ( 6K down payment = no "disposable" cash this week, or month ) and had softball practice Wednesday: my daughter's open house at school Thursday: need to do some clothes/work shoes shopping ( and NO, it can't wait, my left shoe just busted!!! ) General: I'm looking at the September schedule right now. If I were buying tickets to any games, I'd want to see, in this order: Indians Twins Angels Tigers keep scrolling, it's down there..... almost....... a little more....... Royals I don't think that makes me fairweather, I think that means I don't have ANY interest in seeing the Kansas City Royals. At all. Ever. And FWIW, I am getting out to see the Indians on the 19th. And don't you worry, you hardliners, I am NOT planning on getting any playoff tickets, so THIS bandwagoner won't be denying any of you a nice upper-deck playoff seat. That is all. The defense rests.
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) And the other thing about Soxtalk, no threads stay on topic, no matter how hard you try... I had a really good vegetarian sandwich for lunch today..... ....wait.....was that off-topic????
  14. f*** it, it's so small it wouldn't even break my window when I fling it out from frustration....
  15. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) when is Indie Night on and what time?...and is it really good, obscure Indie, or the soon to be on MTV 'indie'? Sunday nights from 9pm til midnight: Crash Test Radio - 9 til 10 TBA - 10 til 11 Local 101 - 11 til midnight It's a pretty nice mix of stuff you may have heard of, stuff you probably haven't, acousitc versions of fairly popular indie songs, mashups, weird covers, etc. Crash Test is mostly dedicated to "up and coming" bands, and they usually have a short interview segment. TBA is dedicated primarily to bands who have upcoming shows in the area. Local 101 is dedicated to...............uhhhh.................local bands. It's also the one show that will skew a little harder, with local slop-rock and metal bands included in the mix. All three shows are really good and they REALLY help get me through my Sunday overnight work shift. I highly recommend the shows.
  16. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) No, I referred only to past NEGATIVITY in their posts concerning the team's play. Iwritecode's post suggested that LV had a number of negative posts (about the team, not personal attacks or anything else), and that constituted the history that the mods thought was sufficient for a banning. You opined that there usually is a history proceeding such actions (and there is), and I suggested that if a history of simple negativity (no personal attacks, no attacks on players) became a ban-able offense here there would be plenty of casualties. KILL 'EM AWL 'N' LET TED NUGENT SORT 'EM OUT!!!!!!
  17. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 06:57 AM) After much thought, I have decided that the Mayor of New Orleans, Ray Nagin, is actually the lead guitarist for Audioslave, formerly Rage Against the Machine, Tom Morello. Nagin Morello This case is now closed. You can go back to your regular complaining about modern day music. Wow, that's right on! Also, Nagin has just a smidge of Paul Mooney to him, if you squint real hard and tilt your head slightly to the right.
  18. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) Thx man. Note to self: stay away from this record. Agreed. I've heard a couple songs from the New Pornographers on Q101 Indie Night and they did nothing for me at all. I'm currently digging a band called The Generators. They have kind of a Social Distortion vibe to them, except for a couple ska-influenced songs that I don't like half as much as the harder-edged songs. Favorite song by them is called "Thirty Seconds".
  19. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:03 AM) Hell, all anybody does is whine when they call me, so that is fine. You get to be one of the fortunate 4 though due to your having never called me (other than for the game that day), so don't pat your back too hard. UH OH.... ....note to self....use the Magic Phone Number sparingly.....
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) If you don't like the topic, maybe leave the thread. SEE???? BANNED FROM THE THREAD!!!!!
  21. Where I live there's actually a store that specializes in bean bag games. I can't wait to see what that store will be NEXT year. heh.
  22. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 10:54 AM) Are you suggesting microwaving Lakeview?!? The idea does have some merit, with apologies to the Sox fans in exile up there. You can't microwave Lakeview. Too many tinfoil hats.
  23. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) See, it's funny. You all are wondering why people don't call you? I am trying to figure out why people are wasting my time by calling me. My phone rings and 95% of the time I just look at it and wonder why somebody might be calling me. I have about 4 friends, and that is just about right. I 'm one of those wacky people that prefers to go to the movies by myself and NOT have people around. My family doesn't count, but even before them that was how I was. I like to come and go as I please, not be hasseled with somebody else wanting to eat here or there and wanting to go into this or that store. I'm like Lenny...a Lone Wolf. ***Critic this doesn't count you and your impending call. You get to land in the category of folks that I do like to spend time around. Lucky you. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY ME!!! I'm one of the "Fortunate Four"!!!! Do I have to have a reason to call, or can I just call to whine about iPods???
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) Have you been over there lately? If you say anything remotely negative you're banned. Somehow I've managed to stay afloat, not really sure how. Yeah, I post there a little bit too. It's a different vibe for sure, a little more restricted than here. If it works for them, it's all good, but I do enjoy posting here more. Even with the new "shiny happy" policy......
  25. Wow. If they banned you for that post, with no other reason, they're nuts. That post won't get you banned here. Hell, some folks might even agree with you....
