Back to the 1940s - Sox vs Twinkies 9-17

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 01:18 PM) It's too bad the opposing team's coach played that goalie, and not the veteran goalie on the bench who earned the right to play because of her performances in recent years before she tore her ACL. Good stuff. I'll say this - anger draws the nasty sarcastic black humor out of us! -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 01:22 PM) They are going to love this. Here we go with nightly coverage of the white sox choke. What are they supposed to cover? The timely hitting? The lock-down pitching? The stellar baserunning? There's one sure way to avoid nightly coverage of the choke - WIN SOME f***ING GAMES. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 01:16 PM) That sounds suspiciously like a mirror image of our game. I SAID her team TRIED HARD and HAD FUN..... -

From the looks of it, I sure am sorry I couldn't watch that game.... Instead I had a very nice time at my daughter's soccer game. Her team lost 2-0, but they tried hard and had fun. She had a few scoring chances, but the goalie was pretty good and made the saves. -
No. We haven't been spoiled. 14 straight division titles - THAT's being spoiled. Half a great year followed by even the HINT of a choke = being TEASED.

QUOTE(bmags @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) BRMC just play good rock and roll , dark night club rock and its a lot of fun. They put out an acoustic cd i really liked this year. their self titled is the best...really good pop hooks. The fiery furnace's debut had them compared to the white stripes, but their next album blueberry boat was just this out of left field, epic album with 10 minute songs...i love it. They are from grant park i believe...brother and a sister, but they added others recently The comparison I always read for BRMC is the Jesus & Mary Chain. I've never heard BRMC, so I ask you: Accurate? Or Not?

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) You don't go for the sweet tea, and your invitation to come visit the South is officially revoked. And you'd BETTER NOT say anything bad about grits. I wasn't knocking SWEET TEA, I was vomiting at the thought of SWEAT TEA, as Tex spelled it.... and I won't say anything bad about grits - I won't EAT them, but I won't say anything bad about them either......and I've been to Florida twice already, with a 3rd trip pencilled in for spring.....is Florida in "the South"????

QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) Look as if the Sox will miss CC at USCF!!! Thought I read somewhere that they'll miss Cliff Lee, too. That's OK by me.

"There isn't a fan on this board that wouldn't have gladly taken this position leaving Spring Training." Again, not the whole story. At face value, YES, anyone would accept that. However, without adding the part about the 15 game lead in August, the s***ty August BA and W-L, the mediocre second half by almost all the starters, the 5-game drop in the lead over the Indians in just over one week, etc etc, you're not telling the whole story. Am I glad the Sox are still up 4 and 1/2 games? Yup. Is 4 and 1/2 ahead better than 4 and 1/2 behind? Of course. Does that 4 and 1/2 game lead feel insurmountable AT ALL? no. Let me state once again for the record that I DO NOT want the Sox to fail, I am pulling for them 100% ( because it's impossible for me to pull for them MORE than 100% ), and I would LOVE to see them get rid of the f***ing Injuns. But to say that I'm nervous about the lead right now is an understatement.

QUOTE(Bias @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) Anybody else bothered by him saying they could get swept? I think that's poor leadership....while it may be reality I don't like the mood and him saying that leads me to believe he doesn't think they can get it done. Am I making too much of it? I hope it's a wake up call, but I don't think it is....... It depends whether you prefer the team to sound pessimistic or delusional. The LAST thing I'd want to hear is "Everything's going to be all right" until I SEE something that shows me everything is going to be all right. I didn't see or hear his comments, so I'd need to know the context. I'm assuming it's along the lines of "if we don't play the way we're capable of playing, we could get swept", and that to me is perfectly acceptable. If he were to say "Oh, man, those guys can MASH!!! We could get swept, no problem!!!", then I'd say he went overboard.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 09:53 AM) Not as many as further north. We have a couple good ones and Rudy's, the best chain. Plus, I'm usually not too bad at a BBQ joint. 1/2 chicken, rice, beans, onion, pickle, jalapenos, and a sweat tea suits me just fine. I also have cut way back on the chicken fried steak smothered in white gravy. SWEAT TEA? :puke :puke

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 07:40 AM) I bought new underwear, got a haircut, planning some snorkling in the Gulf this weekend, trying to think of an appropriate way to recognize my daughter for being selected as a campus Ambassador at her High School. So yes, it has effected me a lot. I have such a weird, eery, calm about this team. I am usually the glass is half empty guy with this team, and for some reason I have a ton of faith and see a lot of smiles in October. No, I have not been drinking. I have never had a hunch like this with the Sox in 30+ years. Maybe it's gas. Wow, that kind of unfounded optimism is either clairvoyance or insanity. Guess which way I'm leaning on THAT issue???

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 08:07 AM) Nah, the whole thing is his creation and he pretty much is calling ALL of the shots. Even if he thought he knew my situation, I think an offer should have been on the table. I've always opened the door for him. Been there done that with the beer drinking thing with him before. I'm tired of it with him pretty much. We had a bit of a falling out before, and cleared it up over beers. I didn't know that about my skin looking good due to zits. Might explain why I'm so damn good looking. Maybe he never fully got over the falling out? Cuz you'd think if you're close enough to work together and build houses next to each other, that you'd be included in this kind of opportunity. I don't blame you for being pissed. It's up to you if you want to be blunt and find out why you were overlooked, though. He's not gonna come to you about it. As for the zits, I dunno.....you drinkin' some weird-ass Belgian Chocolate Ale or something???

Congratulations to the Cardinals. My favorite National League team, no question. Always been a Bird fan, back to the days of Bob Gibson and Lou Brock. This is their fourth NL Central title ( one shared with Houston ) in the past 6 years. Good luck in the playoffs, REDBIRDS!!!!

Maybe he stores all the references in his right arm and it's too heavy to move?

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) Ever heard Dinosaur Jr's version of it? I luuuuuv Dino. That song makes my wife cringe every time. That and Dino's cover of "Lotta Love" by Neil Young just drive her insane. When they do the harmony part.....let's just say there's no harmony! HA!! .....AH LUUUUUUUV DINOSAUR JR......

QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) Coheed and Cambria - Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness This is my album of the year. Check it out if you're at all into prog, pop-rock, science-fiction, or comic books/graphic novels. I like them OK, but the singer's voice annoys me. "A Favor House Atlantic" is a great song, though.

I can honestly say that it hasn't affected me all that much. Sure, it's aggravating to watch the Sox play like s***, but I don't let sports affect my overall mood anymore. If it wasn't happening to the Sox, a fold of this magnitude would probably strike me as funny. I USED to, don't get me wrong. I would get so upset when the Blackhawks would, ohhhhh for example, blow a big lead in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup FInals, but then one day I realized that: I don't personally know ANY of the players on my favorite sports teams I will probably NEVER personally know any of them Most, if not all, of the current players will be gone in the course of 3-4 years anyway They don't give 1/2 a s*** if I'M having a s***ty day So why the f*** am I getting all bent out of shape over their s***ty day??? Once I came to grips with that reality, it's a lot easier to watch even a bad team, if I so choose. It also makes it easier to avoid a team if they get TOO bad - like the Slackhawks of recent vintage.

I like the Cure, but Just Like Heaven is not one of my favorite songs by them. I prefer Disintegration or Play For Today.
-
You just know that the Twins players would love nothing more than to dash the Sox' divisional title hopes again. The Sox just can't let that happen again this year.

I'll be there on Monday night. I actually thought that might have a chance to be The Clincher when I bought the tickets about a month or so ago. Silly me.......
