QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) Put on your business suit for a minute. Have a band but have all the musicians be your employees. Great business model and there could be three or four "Sparklings" running around. And at the end of each show, you turn to the band and in your best Vince McMahon voice declare: YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYOU'RRRRRRRRRRRRRRE FFFFIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRED!!!!!!!

Well, we can't blame Sox & Roll for ALL of the Sox' recent s***ty play!

QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 08:28 AM) Really? I must not have been paying attention. I've seen a lot about Crede, Timo, Paulie, but don't remember seeing much on Dye. I'll take your work for it. Oh yeah, there was a lot of Jermaine Dead, Jermaine Dyed, Princess Dye, all that stuff. But Cruddy/Crediocre and the infamous Judy still carry a higher lifetime bash average than Dye or any other current Sox player.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 08:57 AM) would that be the grass, the hotdogs, the person sitting next to you, the cigarette smoke, ?? For me it's cigar smoke. If I smell cigar smoke while approaching the ballpark, it's like I'm 8 years old again!

I give you my blessing..... Congrats, and here's to a long, fun-filled and happy marriage!!!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 08:56 AM) I was thinking the same thing. I really have no choice but to have something that can pull a very heavy trailer. Currently it's an 8 liter V10 monster. I do travel a bit slower, setting the cruise at 60-65 instead of 70-75 and have noticed a decrease in gas consumption and no decrease in being late. Way to keep that on-time percentage niiiiiiiice and low........

I'd take Bret Boone if he came with a time machine and a box of syringes.....allegedly.....

I'm thinking the Cardinals might sniff around Nevin as a Plan B kinda guy if the price isn't too high. Since Rolen's gone for the year and all. Although isn't Nevin a pretty awful defensive third baseman?

I can't bring myself to vote in one of their s***ty polls when I don't give half a f*** what they think or say about the White Sox.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 21, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) Kind of weird that someone didn't know that song. I kinda wish I didn't know that song. That is SO not my kind of music.

Energy in the crowd = Energy on the field
The Critic replied to SouthSidePride05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This recent awful stretch would seem to support the theory that the Sox s*** their pants whenever they get a big home crowd. They're much worse at home than they are on the road. Perhaps booing them at home is the answer??? -
Today is the day--8/21/05 Game Thread
The Critic replied to flyg88182's topic in 2005 Season in Review
First of all, welcome! Second, if you post that thread title every day, you will eventually be correct. And third, at least as far as I'm concerned, it's not the last 7 games that have me concerned. It's the fact that the Sox have the worst BA in MLB in August. It's the fact that they're .500 since the All-Star break. It's the fact that the pitching staff is being asked to win 1-0 games every day. It's the fact that too much of the Sox success appears to be predicated on Scott Podsednik being healthy and effective, and that they appear to have no backup plan when he's not in the leadoff slot. Yes, the White Sox are still in front of the AL Central with what APPEARS to be a fairly large advantage. But IF they continue their pathetic offensive trend, and they continue to overtax their pitching staff, that 8 and 1/2 game lead ( which is a LOT smaller than it was just one week ago ) can continue to shrivel up in a hurry. They need to find their offense, or go get some, pronto. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) Am I the only one who after the games are all done at night lately, I've said to myself "well, at least they're still 10.5 games up, etc.?" It just seems a little depressing that the number keeps going down at such an alarming rate. No, that's a common crutch. In fact, I was going to post this a couple days ago: Fill In The Blanks - "It's only a ___ game losing streak, and they're still ____ games in front of the division" because that's all I was hearing despite how weak the Sox have looked for the last 4 or 5 weeks. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) That falls on the shoulders of Ozzie and KW. There's no one else that can be criticized for the personnel we have on the field. We don't know how much financial leeway KW has really been given, except Steff, of course , but I do agree that KW and Ozzie are largely responsible, just as they were largely credited with the early success. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) If we have no options on the bench, then KW has failed us. It's been obvious for almost a month that our offense hit the wall. I can't believe that we did nothing to replace Frank's presence on the roster and had no back-up option for when we decided to proactively put Pods on the DL. I wouldn't pin it 100% on KW. The Sox as an organization have talked about how they like the makeup of this team, and how they wouldn't make a move just to make a move. As soon as Frank went down, I think that was the time to become more aggressive trade-wise. It's much more difficult now to address the offense from outside the organization, regardless of "where would he play". EDITED to add that "Where Would He Play?" ( with a picture of KG2 ) should be the new Sox t-shirt design. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) Carl Everett is so far out in front of pitches, it's not even funny. Seriously, how can Ozzie justify keeping this same lineup? When you get very few offensive chances to score runs, you can't blow them trying to be cute cause your girlfriend is batting. Honestly, though, what are Ozzie's options? The Sox don't have a deep or versatile bench at all. -

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 12:40 PM) I can't help but believe that at some point the Sox are just going to get pissed off and say f*** this and start rapping the ball hard. August 29th, they get their security blanket back. Maybe when Pods returns, they'll magically remember how to play basic solid baseball. -

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) Why would he have to go through waivers? It's not like he's on the 40 man roster or anything. But if he did go through waivers, is there any chance he'd clear them??

IF the Sox gag away a 15 game division lead ( which I don't believe will happen, recent pathetic streak notwithstanding ), it would NOT be a cuddly, feel-good anything. It would be a shirt-burning, bag-wearing, shameful disgrace. The Sox need to suck it up and regroup, and I think they will.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) My opinion is grounded in a belief that all human life is precious and no one has the right to take that away. Once we accept humans ending other human's lives, we perpetuate our violence. I respect your viewpoint, but I can't fully agree. Once someone does things as heinous as he did, with a complete lack of regard for anyone's feelings, then his life is meaningless and his existence helps no one. If that was my daughter hanging I honestly could do anything and everything to avenge her.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 11:04 PM) Great read. I have to agree with it, because that's all I've seen. It's ONLY a 5 game losing streak. It is and it isn't. I'm more concerned about the "old ways" re-emerging without Podsednik. Not much stealing, no hit-and-running, not as much first-inning scoring, huge reliance on the long ball to score. The pitching staff has slumped a bit, which wouldn't be as big a deal if the offense didn't look so helpless most of the time. I'm not AS concerned about the last 5 games as I am about the last 5 weeks or so, when the Sox have looked average at best. And if we Sox fans were "Cub-like", that would mean we wouldn't even DISCUSS wins or losses, just who we talked to on the cellphone, how many chicks we talked to in the bleachers, how LIT UP we got and where we went after the game.
