Wayne Gretzky to coach Phoenix Coyotes
The Critic replied to CSF's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Generally speaking, and of course there are exceptions, great players don't make great coaches. Not exactly sure why that is, maybe they don't have as much patience with "lesser" players, or maybe they didn't need as much teaching so they don't know how to teach? I wish Wayne well, he seems to really care about the well-being of the league and the Coyotes. -
QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 05:17 PM) Is that backwards K looming above Konerko's head for a reason? Yeah, that backward K's kinda weird. It SHOULD be a "6-4-3" instead....

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 07:27 AM) If Kenny isn't the Executive of the Year, I don't know who would be. I was going to sarcastically say Billy Beane, but then I thought about how he traded away Mulder and Hudson and is still in contention for the AL West title and/or the Wild Card. Beane is a logical contender, along with KW, for EOY. -

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 12:24 PM) Yes indeed, I did consider this, but how many people reading this will think that SS and QP are marrying and having a baby? I was going to also ask about Steff's ducks, but that's just sick Quality reply, sir, well played!

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) After they put this loser away the only sex he's gonna get is gang rape in the shower. If he learns one lesson from this it should be that its better to give than receive. Maybe she put herself in this situation by demanding cuddling, and therefore had it coming to her?

So I was listening to the Cub game while doing the dishes ( PLEASE don't be jealous, it's just the way I roll ) and they're doing the "On This Date..." segment. Pat says "on this date in 1959, Billy Williams made his major-league debut for the Cubs", which leads to a few minutes of gooey reflection about Williams. After the fond memories, Santo says "so then Billy got called up, I believe he was a September callup...." DIPs***!!!! It was ON THIS DATE, remember???????

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 08:45 AM) Yes, you'll start to see goalies be more aggressive and stand up more. Kind of like the early nineties. Fleury is already as aggressive as can be and will be able to cover angles and shots in tight without problem. I'm VERY glad they're mandating the smaller equipment. It was getting out of control. The goalies should be making the saves, not BEING saved by their titanic equipment. -
Or it could just be a flat spot that every team goes through at one time or another. Not entirely sure why the home fortunes have turned bad lately, beyond the reasons we've all discussed recently, but hopefully it's a blip and not a trend. Time will tell.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) I'll start: Wanna stump Harry Schwab? Ask him what a woman's breast feels like That reminds me of that Shatner bit on SNL when he was at the Star Trek convention: "YOU.....have you ever even KISSED a girl????"

See, now right there you show your lack of ss2k5 posting skills. There's an opportunity to start TWO threads and double your posting potential, and you go and combine both topics in ONE thread??? You still have much to learn, Grasshopper......

I sometimes get suckered into stupid reality shows, but I can guarantee that I'll NEVER watch a single episode of this one. -

QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) LA got him for nothing. The Hawks should've picked him up. I think he would have lit a fire under the asses of the rest of the team, and he should retire with the Indian Head on his sweater. While I would definitely have liked to see JR come back, I am glad that the Hawks aren't using nostalgia to try to draw fans back. I'd rather they win games to get the fans back, and I'm not convinced that Amonte, Chelios, Belfour, etc. would be able to do that anymore. -

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 12:10 AM) He came right in after the last draft and started. They are very, very high on him. Big time butterfly goalie who moves extremely well. AWESOME positioning and will rarely get beat short side. He is really aggressive in the net too, likes to play way out on the top of his crease. That said, he's gonna be 20, so in about 4-5 years we'll really see what he can do. Remember goalies take longer to develop. I think he's gonna be a superstar but he needs more seasoning, much like Lehtonen has gotten in the A. Besides, what's not to love about his piss yellow pads? Will the piss-yellow pads look as impressive when they're no longer the size of twin mattresses? And if Atlanta does trade for T-Blow, they'll REALLY appreciate Lehtonen when he comes up for good!! -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 12:01 PM) In all honesty though...coming back 1 week after being nailed in the head by a line drive, 5IP is not terrible. All credit goes to Clement in returning to the mound that quickly. He was resilient. He was feisty. He was double-tough. But he did not "look great" giving up 6 runs and 4 walks in 5 innings. Grampa McCartney could have complimented Matt's toughness and fighting spirit while acknowledging that Clement struggled. ....but it's the Red Sox, so.....

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) The guy registered there like 5 days ago and only has 4 posts, however Cubs fans aren't exactly flaming him for it. Well, I can certainly understand subtle sarcasm slipping past Cub fans.....

JR's still a solid player. This is good for LA. He can score, he's very physical and he cares. Still one of my favorite ex-Hawks. -

The Critic replied to CWSGuy406's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I guess I'm glad that the NHL finally lowered the salary bar far enough for the Hawks to get involved in legit free-agent dealings. Their defense seems solid. Khabibulin > Thibault. Now they need some firepower. I hope they're good on the road, cuz that's still the only way I'll see them. -
