QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 2, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) How do you guys get these codes? This is one area at which this site gets "PWN3D" ( as the kids today like to say ) by WSI.

Don't worry too much, this list has been up and pinned at another site ( starts with a W.....ends with an I..... ) for weeks now. My sister got some tix for 7/9 - 18 bucks for bleachers.....

I'm still stunned that they refused to pay Lieber ( who had a 20-win season for them ) while he rehabbed but decided to pay Ryan Dumpster ( who had done jack s*** for them ) to rehab his arm instead. That was a disloyal move, in my opinion. If they were reluctant to pay anyone to rehab, that's one thing, but that's obviously not the case, since they paid someone else while injured. Dumpster's been decent for them, but Lieber when healthy is a helluva pitcher.

Garland Haters and Lovers prior to 05'
The Critic replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm not on the list because I'm neither a JG hater or lover. I've always been just "satisfied" with Jon. He's been a valuable, consistent 12-game winner, but not anything to get really excited about, not even for himself. I love the results so far this year, though. EDITED to add that I've always hated the "Judy" nickname, just because it's not funny or clever. Wowzerz, you're calling him a woman.... :rolly -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ May 1, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) The problem I have would not be the penalties. I am all for the stiffer penalties. But they need to make sure they have comprehensive testing, surprise tests, at home tests in season or out of season and no limit on the number of tests for a player. Stiff penalties won't help if the players figure out how to mask the test results. ...also, judging by the players who've tested positive so far, MLB needs to start testing power hitters and players who start on a regular basis.... -
My home run calls at the Cell would be: Visitors' HR "DON'T THROW THAT BACK, f***ERS!!" Sox HR "DON'T YOU CUB FANS WHO CAME TO THE WRONG PARK THROW THAT BACK, f***ERS!!!"

if we are still in first place at deadline
The Critic replied to soxfan420's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Bringing in a closer would be Plan E, or maybe even Plan F. Plan A = Shingo Plan B = Hermanson Plan C = Marte Plan D = Vizcaino Plan E = outside help or Pollitte If Frank's still struggling to return, a more pressing need could be a power bat. -
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 1, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) May will tell the story for the rest of the year. We play 1st place teams & mostly teams near or above .500. It's a good thing KC & TBD are squeezed in there. August could also be kind of a b**** for the Sox. Minny twice, Mariners twice, Rangers at Arlington, Red Cubs at Boston, post-trade deadline Spankees twice, and Blue Jays. Not very easy, I don't think.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 2, 2005 -> 12:14 AM) On a different note, at Chicagosports.com, they have a poll on who is the best pitcher right now in Chi town. Vote for Jon or Buerhle fellas. The only Cub on the options is Zambrano. The best pitcher RIGHT NOW is Garland. The best pitcher on the Sox is Buerhle. The best pitcher in Chicago.........(gulp).............could be Zambrano. If he was able to control his f***tardedness, Zambrano WOULD be the best pitcher in Chicago, no doubt. I hate watching him pitch, it's frustrating as hell to see that kind of talent battle with that kind of immaturity. But he's very talented and no amount of Kool-Aid negates that.

QUOTE(farmteam @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) Rush Street is where all the bars are. You'll also find ESPNzone there. Touristy stuff wise, the Sears Tower Skydeck is really cool, the Museum of Science and Industry is nice, and, if you like those sorts of things, you could try Shedd Aquarium or Adler Planetarium. Also, the Field Museum can be cool, depending on what exhibits they have. Isn't the ESPNZone just off Michigan Avenue, near the Virgin Megastore? Also, my wife just saw that exhibit about the human body at one of the museums, I'm awful at remembering which one has what - I'm pretty sure it was the Field Museum. I'm happy for her that she got to see what the human body is SUPPOSED to look like - I'm pretty sure she'd forgotten, after spending the last 15 years with me.... Oh, on a semi-related topic - if you want (IMO) the best Cajun food in Chicago, stop by Redfish! It's about a block or two away from the House Of Blues, on State Street....it's absolutely GREAT! -
When are we going to sell out a game?
The Critic replied to cubbiesssuck2005's topic in Pale Hose Talk
When the sucky team in your screen name come to USCF the place will be packed. -
It's a very interesting stat, but beyond the obvious ( that leading a game is better than trailing ), I'm not sure how big of a deal that is.

I'd suggest that it was a big April in that a lot of people were expecting the Sox to start slow, dig themselves a hole and stay down. Which is not to say that they're a lock to win the Central by any stretch, but at least they started off competitively and have shown that they can beat division rivals, which I think is very important.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 11:38 AM) It makes no sense. He's on a hot streak (hitting over .300), playing on a bad foot, & has no of the lowest HBP counts on the team in past years. It just makes no sense for him to do that. IMHO, Crede has proven to be an aggresive hitter at the plate. Meaning he's more likely to swing than to take. As soon as the ball was released he probably had it in mind to swing & then as the pitch came at him he did everything in his power to hold the swing back. In the process he got hit. Now here's the thing whether you agree with the ump or not. What's the history behind such a call & what's best for the game? The game has been played for over a 100 yrs & yet such calls are more rare than perfect games. As for what was best for the game? Since pitchers are not required to hit in the AL this was definitely not in the game's best interest. As I said earlier this crew allowed one team to bean the other 6 times in the series. If the Sox learned anything in this series it's to retaliate early. That's the lesson this crew taught them & the rest of the AL because it doesn't pay to ignore it. Is an umpire supposed to decide in a second what's best for the history of the game, or how many times a call has been made before they make a call?? The guy saw Crede do something ( that I also believe he did ) and made a call. You don't agree and that's perfectly fine. I've never once argued that you're not supposed to think that, or implied that you don't know baseball. You simply see something in a different light than others. If you had been the umpire, Crede would've gotten first base. He didn't get first, and in my opinion his head got messed up, leading to a weak popup, a temper tantrum and an early shower.

QUOTE(CubsSuck1 @ May 1, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) LOL @ SouthSiders You mean, The Land Of The Banned? BTW, I just Googled "White Sox message boards" and Soxtalk was the first entry for me.... Back on topic, it must be nice to let a message board write your article for you.....lazy ass Couch.....

My favorite was the 1972 team. I was 9 years old, and that team was so much fun to watch. Dick Allen, Bill Melton, Wilbur Wood, Goose Gossage, Terry Forster, Jorge Orta, Carlos May....ahhhh, the memories.... In MYYYYY DAAAYYYYYY, we used to get coupons from our school for free Sox tickets for perfect attendance or straight A's. ( Guess which one I was??? YEP, perfect attendance! ) So I went to a few games for free that year, can't beat that! A close second was the 1983 team. That team just caught fire! Started rolling and no one could stop them.....except those damn Baltimore Orioles.... Tito Landrum..... :banghead

Wanna know why they're losing tonight? Look no further than that 8th inning. "Get 'em on, get 'em over, get 'em in"? More like: Get 'em on, flyout, flyout, flyout. :puke That was neither small nor smart.

"There was not one umpire in this game who had a perspective on the field to legitimately make that call with a degree of reasonable certainty." I'm not sure I'd agree, Jugg. Hunter signaled it immediately, no hesitation whatsoever. His attention has to be on the incoming pitch, so I believe that his perspective is adequate to make that type of call. In my own humble opinion, Crede was not faked out. To my eyes, he moved out of the way a little, then dipped his shoulder and stuck his elbow out just a bit. It was fairly blatant and obvious to me, and apparently to Wendelstedt too. Like I said, he started pointing back to the batter's box right away. I agree with the call. I know I said I was done with this, but apparently I meant I was done replying to Jackie Hayes.....

I'd try the Sox site first, it really shouldn't be that difficult to get 3 tickets. As for places to see, I can't really say. I'm not a touristy kind of guy. I was 39 years old before I ever went up to the Sears Tower Skydeck, and I only went then because the Mrs. wanted to take the kid up there!! -

Wow. I heard about the bad leg, but had no idea it could lead to that! I thought he was always better than his gimmicks. Not great on the mic but a solid guy to have in a stable like the Triple Threat.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Apr 29, 2005 -> 07:08 AM) Odds are they wont lose one in the next season either. Well, maybe not with the players we've seen in the legendary Blackhawk sweater before, but they may lose a few ( or more than a few ) with replacement players...

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 29, 2005 -> 07:47 AM) I will let this drop, but I just wanted to address this -- if a police officer lets all the white guys go 50 in a 35 but then pulls over a black guy who goes 50 in a 35, then I'd say that ticket is wrong, given the history. And that's similar to the concern here -- you don't want the umps to use the rule book as a cudgel against people they don't like. The Sox should be able to expect the same interpretation of the rules that any other team would get. So you're saying Wendelstedt is a racist???? AYE'M YOOST KEEEDEEEENG!!! I know what you're getting at, but I really didn't see the call on Crede as a vendetta against Ozzie or the Sox. I just think Crede was too obvious about sticking out the elbow. The timing could definitely bring questions up ( it sure did with Hawk ), but I honestly didn't see it that way. A better acting job by Crede would've gotten him the base, I think.
