I'm glad that kid was stupid enough to leave a "death list" in his/her locker. I wish they'd all leave warning signals, and I wish all the warning signals would be picked up in time.

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 07:38 AM) My dad had his waaaay up high also.. we got ahold of it. But it was not loaded, and had a safety. Kids want something bad enough.. they will get it. Who the hell keeps a LOADED gun in a house with kids..?? IMO.. a moron. A moron who now has to bury a poor little kid. It's sad and infuriating and depressing all at the same time.

No NHL season in 05-06.......
The Critic replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
If they don't play the 05-06 season they might as well fold the league and melt down the Stanley Cup and turn it into hubcaps or something. I can't believe the way both sides are playing chicken while the league decomposes. Stupidity beyond stupidity. -
I believe that limiting the 2-for-1 to the upper deck definitely prevents some people from taking advantage of it. As nice as I think the UD is - it's always gotten a bad rap, and it's much better now than it had been, which was NOT BAD - more people enjoy the amenities and ambience of the lower deck. I realize that the Sox are trying to encourage people to buy UD seats through this promotion, but I think a lot of people simply won't, no matter what.

"They are paying my bills, and I'll do whatever they want." Are you listening, Scott Schoeneweis??? I luuuuuuuuuuuv the guys who GET IT.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 01:38 AM) I believe the acronym thing is popular do to message boards. ARod is easier type than Alex Rodriguez. People are generally lazy when it comes to this type of thing. Whattya mean "lazy", YAS? The fact is, Hawk has a knack for coining catchy nicknames and Berman creates nicknames that no one would ever really use. They're far too long, ALWAYS too corny and dated, and they get old almost immediately. ...and I would be remiss if I didn't tip my cap to Sox And Roll's own Guido, who used to call Gary Glover "G. Lover". I still chuckle a little bit about that one.

I agree with what was said before. Post the info, check to make sure he's registered, keep your eyes and ears open, but let him live his life as freely as possible ( while still keeping your eyes and ears open ). Good luck, man, that's a difficult situation, to understate it immensely.

QUOTE(Yoda @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 03:56 PM) I did get to see someone throw the ball back on TV, but am not sure whether it was the Cub fan or not. Whoever it was made a very stupid decision. I like many hate to see it when a homerun ball is thrown back into the field... mostly when it happens in your home field. Really, what it all boils down to is choosing to do something selfish or to do something selfless. Giving the ball to a kid would make another person happy, and the sad fact is that not enough people care about pleasing anyone but themselves. Add to that the sheeplike "trendiness" factor and there you have it - the ball goes flying back on the field.

Piss off, Moron. In the Sun-Times you say they're lucky and cheap, but on ESPN you say they're the best team in baseball??? Your crap writing is on the Internet, so any viewers of Around The Horn who care can see your real opinion of the Sox. You stupid hack phony. Did I mention "piss off"?

QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) But I think that the greater problem in Africa lies in the attitudes of the men. Having sex with many women (i.e., cheating on your spouse) is seen as "manly" over there. Being married is almost a death sentence to most women, as they know that their husbands will visit prostitutes and that they will most likely contract HIV at some point. They know about condoms, but their use is frowned upon by much of the male population. IMO, their own lifestyle is a much greater problem than Catholic influence. This part doesn't sound all that different from too many American men... I'm only half-joking about that, unfortunately.

He's 78 years old? Isn't there anyone somewhat younger they'd feel confident about for this position? Seems to me that they'll be doing this again relatively soon.

It's about f***in' time! 19 wins once, 16 wins twice, innings eater, fan favorite, quiet ace. Mark is the MAN! Until Prior lives up to his potential there's only ONE "Mark Of Excellence" in this city!!!!

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 06:12 AM) I agree. Did anyone hear the radio commercial about this (it being stupid to throw balls back)...? It was sometime last week when Jim and I were driving home from work.. I haven't heard it since - but I haven't been listening to the radio.. anyone else hear it? Yeah, I like it. The PR department has been great under Brooks, IMO. Except for that Podsednik one that ends with the guy saying "maybe you should listen to the game in the car"....I know it's supposed to be a joke, but any commercial that ends with a guy trying to dissuade you from attending the game is a mistake, I think.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 12:33 AM) I think Carl has the Twins in his sights. He is stepping it up against them. Everett is a true professional. PLUS, he's insane, angry and vocal!!! I LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 06:05 AM) People at the game said it was a Twins fan..?? Maybe, but the guys around him all seemed to be wearing Cub gear. Either way, throwing a souvenir back is one stuuuuuuuuuuupid "tradition".

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 11:25 PM) Worst.Catchphrase.Evar. That's an awful catchphrase for sure, but I think "here's your sign" is pretty stupid as well. Ron White aside, there's a lot to NOT like about that redneck comedy team. ...sorry for the hijack, folks.....GO WHITE SOX!!!!!!!! -
4/18/05 Official Game Thread: Sox vs. Cakes
The Critic replied to BridgeportHeather's topic in 2005 Season in Review
Anyone see the Cub tards throw Carls' homer back? Typical and laughable. -
If your boss ( or mine ) had a gaggle of reporters asking him questions every single day, I'd be willing to bet that at some point he'd say something stupid that would end up in print. Granted, Oz doesn't need that much prodding to start yapping, but let's not forget that they have people following them around every day looking for a quote. Oz was adamant in "reminding" the reporters that he also mentioned several other players and only the Frank reference was blown up. Why is that? Could it be that the Frank quote could turn into the bigger story, because of Frank's history here? Again, I'm very glad that it appears to not be a huge deal in the Sox clubhouse, and that is the ONLY thing that matters to me.

I heard DeFalco and Silvercub talking to Broooth Levine this morning. They asked him what he thought of Couch's article and he says something like "he must be a smart baseball guy to judge the offense on the one game he's seen this year". I thought it was funny.

I was glad to see Frank basically laugh it off. Get back in that lineup SOON, big man!!!

Who do you want up in the bottom of the 9th?

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 04:37 PM) The biggest IF in the world. Careful, you'll give The Moron another nickname for Frank.... "The Big If" -
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 11:49 AM) No, I don't believe part of being the boss is to be the bigger person. I think he is setting an example and taking a leadership role. He will not stand for a selfish type of attitude. He wants to play team baseball and could care less about individual statistics. That is a big stance to take and a big part of being a leader. It is his team. The team will play the way he wants. The attitude will be of team baseball. There is a lot of leadership in that. I somewhat agree with this, but a lot of what Ozzie says in regards to Frank sounds like it's tainted from his past dealings with him. It's almost a self-fulfilling prophecy - Ozzie's so worried about Frank being a distraction that he pops off about it, thereby guaranteeing a distraction in the process. In my opinion, Frank said absolutely nothing wrong in those quotes - he should be the everyday DH and has every right to expect that. And something will need to be done to keep Carl in the lineup and the outfield is the only logical answer. In NO WAY do I want a watered-down Ozzie, a watered-down Frank or anyone else watered down, for that matter. I NEVER want the stock bland athlete quotes - "one game at a time, stay within myself, blah blah blah...." zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz This is MUCH more interesting!

QUOTE(Fotop @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) Albert Pujols $11,000,000 Mike Sweeney $11,000,000 Having those two names right next to each other reminded me even more how much the Cardinals have Pujols for a friggin' amazing rate. $11million for arguably the best hitter in baseball and a servicable 1st baseman? That's unbelieveable. I mean you could say you could have 2 Pujols's and 3mil to spare for one Arod...but that's stretching it since Arod is such an outlier contract. Either way, Pujols at 11million? Sick. I agree, except to say that I think Pujols is already better than servicable. I'd say he's good and going to get better. Maybe not Gold Glove, but he'll be close. But he could be less than servicable defensively and still be worth the money ( if anyone truly can be worth that money to play a game, but that's another conversation... )
