  1. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Apr 8, 2005 -> 10:41 AM) Hey I grew up on Peapod Gordon. On an unrelated note, Bert has the best laugh ever. Fran Drescher TOTALLY stole Bert's laugh.
  2. I saw in the paper that SamME took another pitch off the melon last night, and then later in the game he did his beloved Ground Rule Double Hop! He thought he "got all of that one", but it bounced on the track and over the wall. HA! Idiot....
  3. That guy's website is a laugh riot! He's a complete whackjob. If you know anyone who has tapes of his days in wCw, do yourself a favor and check out some of his interview/tirades from those days. He pins the needle to the red for unintentional comedy.
  4. Yesterday was a generally bad Sox performance with one good inning. Today was a generally good Sox performance with 2 very bad innings. Shoulda lost yesterday, shoulda won today. Either way, the Sox would still be 2 wins, 1 loss. It's a disheartening loss, but it's one loss, nothing more, nothing less.
  5. I don't care what your "out pitch" is, if you leave it out over the heart of the plate like Shingo is, it's gonna get smacked. It's location on the fastball, that's the entire problem today.
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) That could be, but by that logic the games in September should be sold out, because they have much, much longer to buy tickets. I think selling tickets at Soxfest was a duh moment stroke of genius. You get 30,000 people to come and do nothing but think about the Sox, and then you used to leave them with nothing to channel that outlet to. To have tickets available for them was a great idea. I think even if the fest had been later, the mere fact of giving people a way to do something with their Sox-excitment would have jumped sales somewhat. Good points. As far as September games go, I think that's TOO far in advance for people to consider. Some people ( I tend to fall into this too ) think of baseball as a May to August thing. That's when I tend to go to most of my games, because to me, that's summer and summer = baseball. September is playoff crunch time and we all know how well THAT's worked out since 2000..... :banghead , so I tend to not buy those in advance. It's like going to a wake. and you could have just written Soxcitement and we'd all know what you meant. HEY.....that's a catchy term there.....SOXCITEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. I think the frustration was with the offense's inconsistency - 14 one night, 1 the next. I think there was an unspoken reliance on the bomb, and not enough guys getting on base. That's what the Sox have tried to address. I disagree with this notion that the White Sox have somehow "abandoned" the home run - they have at least 5 or 6 guys with the capability of hitting 20 to 30 each. They're not going to go from first in the majors to dead last.
  8. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 07:22 PM) Less than two years ago, Brad Wilkerson hits for the cycle and now does it again in just the Nationals 2nd game ever. I'm sure most of you know who he is already but it's great to see that he can finally play where he'll get some more national attention. "National attention".....you sly little wordsmith, you.....
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) And I think we are seeing the results early with the jump in ticket sales, even before the first pitch was thrown. How much do you think the jump in early sales has to do with the fact that tickets went on sale about a month earlier than they used to? I think that has to play a small part in the numbers sold so far. I do think people are a little more excited about the moves the team has made, but the earlier on-sale date is also a factor IMO. As for the Cubs, they have practically ZERO walk-ups. Hell, most of their entire season's seating was sold on the first day. If the Sox sold out every game, you just KNOW we'd hear complaints about "fair-weather fans" and parking nightmares and scalpers, so I'd just as soon have 20-25K a night and not worry about it.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) Mets and Orioles have to be up there as well. Mets are consistently in the Least Bang For The Buck category.
  11. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 08:35 AM) I still don't understand why Dempster and Rusch changed roles... From what I read, Toothpick Man The Pitcher Killer wants to have a reliable lefty in the bullpen to mop up after his starter gets destroyed in the first 3 innings....
  12. QUOTE(mreye @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 09:32 AM) Or give away April day game tickets to the homeless. WOO Where's WOO Sammy WOO????
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 07:43 AM) Totally unrealted.. but Saturday in Milwaukee when Carlos hit the 3 run homer that went out just below Friday's.. they announced that it was 270 feet.... to the wall in left is 271 MATH IS HARD!!!!
  14. QUOTE(quickman @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 07:41 AM) Yea, i know a little cranky, not much sleep, sorry Critic. Forgotten. but I still ain't buyin' 'em....
  15. QUOTE(quickman @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 07:37 AM) For those of us who make the $12,000 investment in season tickets, we do not get a break, but you bring a good point, I will sell them at 15 apiece. i take it since you took the time to point this out that you are interested? Thought so.. Dude, I really wasn't trying to rile you up or anything. I was just asking why yours were 30 bucks each. It wasn't indicated in your post that you're a season ticket holder, so I had no way of knowing the investment you've made. ....but no, unfortunately, I won't be attending that game.....and if I was, I'd get tickets at the box office NOW....
  16. Ahhhhhhhhhh.....gotcha. Sorry about that, quick!

    First Jobs

My first real job was shuttling cars to Midway Airport for National Car Rental. I looked AWESOME in the matching green shirt and pants....not at ALL like a watermelon, weighing in at about 240 pounds as I did back then.....ugh.....
  18. Not trying to be a jerk, but how are those seats 30 bucks apiece? Isn't that a 1/2 price Monday? I looked up tickets for the 18th, and 2 in section 118 were selling for 15 bucks each.
  19. It's surprising to see that the "stingy, cheap" White Sox are spending 6 million more in payroll than the "aggressive, willing to pay for the top free agents" Detroit Tigers. Once you get past the recent FA's like Percival, Rodriguez and Ordonez, and then the second-tire guys like White, Urbina, Higginson and Young, they must have a LOT of minimum or near-minimum guys.
  20. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) Flubs lose 8-3 and go to 1-2 on the season. Now they face the Brew-Crew and Flubs-killer Carlos Lee at the Urinal on Friday. The Brewers always play the Cubs really tough anyway, and now Milwaukee actually looks like they could be a decent team. We know C Lee is going to have a good series there!
  21. wow, an attendance thread....I've never seen one of these before....how incredibly interesting and new.... :sleep One thing and one thing ONLY brings big crowds to USCF and that is WINNING. As mentioned earlier, the school kids will spike attendance a bit, but the park won't fill unless the team is seriously in the race. The attendance for the first few years of New Comiskey were a combination of a new park and a young, talented team. In my eyes, USCF is basically a new park again, and if the team wins, the park will be packed. Otherwise, expect smallish crowds on weekdays and in September....again....
  22. Right now I feel good, but this winter was a b**** for me illness-wise. I never felt quite right from like November til February. It was always something. Ugh. Glad THAT's over. Get well soon, Hedder!!
  23. All I've heard so far is the track they've released as a preview, "Sadie", I think it's called? Not bad. I like Alkaline Trio a lot. Maybe I'll Catch Fire and Good Mourning are my favorites. My favorite AT song is "My Friend Peter", and Matt Skiba has a nice solo acoustic song called "Good f***ing Bye" that I like a whole lot.
  24. Lucky or not, she just got herself some free publicity! Think she'll ride this "phenomenon" for a while?
  25. He had his aides do the legwork for him, and then he sends her a letter instead of walking over to her house to talk to her.....yep, sounds like a fat-ass to me!!!
