  1. I have a TON of respect for "good ol' number 4". Since football is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down on my list of favorite sports, I have no built-in allegiance to Da Bearsssss. This has allowed me to enjoy watching my wife's favorite football team, the GBP, with NO stress at all. Favre is a great player and seems to be the kind of guy you want on your side.
  2. and that too. Forgot about the expense factor - I'm SURE the Sox brass haven't. Of course, it's all US Cellular's money, so Jerry's Kids don't mind signing off on it as much...
  3. This. All of this. Nicely stated. I like Burke's versatility, as well as the surprising offense he provided last year. He may not be an everyday guy, but his ability to fill in definitely is an asset. Also, I wouldn't mind Blanco at all if the price was right. Let's all REALLY REALLY hope that Ben comes out of the gate hot next year, so we don't have a rotation situation behind the plate. I'd really like to have a defined #1 catcher and just give him a rest a couple times a week.
  4. I couldn't care less what color the seats are. They could be orange, purple, taupe, mauve, chartreuse or pink. About 17 out of 10,000 mini-micros***s on the "Give-A-s*** Scale". I only notice the seats when I'm looking for mine. It's just not worth the amount of thought and debate devoted to this non-issue. IMO, of course...
  5. HENRY???? REPETITIVE????? HENRY???? REPETITIVE????? HENRY???? REPETITIVE?????
  6. OF COURSE! EVERYONE knows that GREEN is more comfortable than BLUE!!!!! Remember the seats in Old Comiskey Park? They were f***in' PLUSH!!!! SURE, they were made of wood and splintering and the paint was peeling off of them, but the peeling paint was GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!!!!!!!! ....I'll never understand the obsession with green seats.... BTW, wasn't that a COMFY post? It was GREEEEEEEEEEEEEN!!!!!
  7. "He's had a few years to work on his mechanics, and we feel that he's ready to have a breakthrough year for us and become the ACE we always knew he could be...."
  8. To be fair, though, the Tigers had more wiggle room salary-wise when they signed Pudge than the Sox do now, self-imposed or not. Tigers had no real high-salary guys, while the Sox have a few already. Still, it all falls back to the Sox' "fiscal responsibility".
  9. IMO, THIS is the question that will prevent the Sox from attaining any top-level free agents. If teams like the Cardinals, Yankees, Red Sox or Cubs are also interested in you, I'd have to think there are more positives ( real or preceived ) to joining any of those other teams over the White Sox. s***, the Tigers are drawing more good FA's than the Sox are these days...
  10. Oh OK, I gotcha now - I took it to mean that you thought Kendall wasn't a good fit. And you could very well be right about Cabrera - he did settle in nicely with the Red sox after a shaky beginning.
  11. No, but there were a LOT of whispers that Nomar was riding his injury ( due to hurt feelings that they tried to deal him over the winter ) when he could have returned to action. The fact is, Nomar tried a LOT harder to play on the Achilles AFTER he was traded than he had with Boston.
  12. I hate to disagree, but Jason Kendall would have been a great fit on the Sox. Experienced catcher, leadoff hitter....I'd have liked that a lot. The Sox need another starter, I'm just not sold on the idea of what it would take player-wise and money-wise to give to a 41 or 42 year old pitcher. I've seen every side of the argument on the board already, so there's no need to rehash that for me - I'd rather they throw cash at someone a little younger, that's all. Polanco and Cabrera both do little to excite me - either would be a solid pickup, neither would make me want to buy more game tickets. EDITED TO ADD that I don't know enough about the Japanese kid to form an opinion, except to say that .275 in Japan doesn't really thrill me.
  13. Huge Money + Lots Of Years + Scott Boras = no. I'd like to see the Sox try for CB, but it's simply NOT going to happen.
  14. Hey, at least the NHL lockout spared us all some bad hockey this winter... On topic, I'm not yet concerned about the lack of movement, since it's been relatively slow all around. If guys start getting snapped up left and right and the Sox are left to go bottom-feeding, THEN I'll start to get a little pissed off. ..but that still won't stop me from seeing my usual 5-10 games or so - I'm not going to deny myself a fun day/night at the park with my wife and kid just cuz the Sox didn't get ___________ ( fill in name of coveted FA or trade-eligible player here ).

    Shortcut to it

s***, now Al Gore's gotta go out and make some more Interweb....
  16. That is awful beyond words. I cannot imagine losing a child so young.....I couldn't function for a long time. Prayers go out to the family for the strength to keep going.

    Soundtracks

The "River's Edge" soundtrack: "Die By The Sword" - Slayer "Captor Of Sin" - Slayer "Evil Has No Boundaries" - Slayer "Tormentor" - Slayer "Lethal Tendencies" - Hallow's Eve "Kyrie Eleison" - Fates Warning "Fire In The Rain" - Agent Orange "Let Me Know" - The Wipers "Happy Day" - Burning Spear .....SSSSSSSSSSSLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.......................
  18. I wish something would happen with Johnson already, so the Sox can move on to whatever their Plan B is - RJ simply isn't headed this way, IMO, so I hope whoever is going to get him would just get him so we can all stop thinking about it.
  19. Or when Goob tries to return that HIGH-QUALITY 20-buck DVD player that crapped out the first time they stuck that HILAROUS "Blue-Collar TV" DVD in it...
  20. Another reason to be disgusted about this: They showed some f***tard who had been outside of the local Y'All-Mart since THREE A.M. with her infant in tow. Good idea, dumbs*** - keep a small child outside for 3 hours in sub-freezing weather - hope there's a sale at the hospital, asshole.
  21. I for one will NOT be taking part in the Running Of The Retards. f***ing animals trampling each other for a cheap-ass 20 dollar DVD player. Asswipes pulling s*** out of each other's hands cuz "it's the last one". Empty boxes strewn about the parking lot because Goober bought more s*** than will fit in the minivan, so he had to unbox everything to squeeze it in. f*** it.

    Finally

I'm truly going to miss this sort of witty repartee.... Not you, Cali - you're one of the only metalheads on this board...well, you and AnthraxFan93.....
  23. I'll be interested to see how the financials shake out. Two leftys - not a bad move for Pittsburgh, IMO. So who's gonna lead off for Pitt now - maybe Tike Redman?
