For me to end up like the clerks at the LackLuster Video near my house, I'd have to get a sex change, gain 40 pounds and get hit several times by a bus. NEVER seen a cute one at the video store by me...

Gerut had a "fallback" year, probably due in large part to injuries, but it is kinda weird that he'd fall THAT far. Not even the 4th OF, that's odd.

OW! That HURT, you Dusty little Prior!!!!

Hmmm..... News flash for Mr. Sensitive: Wedding rings can be soldered back together. Well-intentioned dope. Fast-forward 5 years later: "Why don't you ever do the dishes???" "HEY! I LOST MY GOD-DAMNED FINGER FOR YOU!!!!!!!!" "Really? I never knew that! It's not like you've EVER mentioned that fact before!"

Braves Trade Capellan For Dan Kolb
The Critic replied to Rowand44's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
From what I've seen of him, I think he does. He wants the ball, he goes after hitters, he steps up and takes blame when he f***s up - I like his style. They definitely won't try him at closer this year - I'm talking about later on, like what happened with Eckersley, Smoltz, etc. They're probably going to try Dempster, Farnsworthless, etc. this year, unless they're "flying under the radar" with some deal in the works. Hawkins + Borowski = bad news for them -

I think Wood could make a good closer if he and the Cubs wanted him to do that job. I'd guess that he would be more aggressive about throwing strikes if he didn't have to be concerned with pitch count and going deep into games. He has nasty stuff and the right mentality to close if that was the role he was given. -
Happy Aging Process, Mike 2k4!!! ....my biggest fan is one year older today..... Have a great one, brother!!!

How would you react to Bonds' 756th HR?
The Critic replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I heard some radio host the other day mention that he saw someone with a Bonds jersey with this above the number 25: B O N D S * I thought that was absolutely hilarious!!! -
You lost me at "Sox Nation". That whole "Nation" bulls*** makes me want to vomit. I'll leave that crap for the Red Sox, and for "Cubbie Nation"..... :puke

No, that f***wit is exactly where he belongs - his worthless body rotting in the ground being eaten by maggots. That s***face wouldn't be any good in Iraq unless some insurgent told him that Pantera sucks. He had an unnatural obsession with the band, and apparently blamed Darrell for the breakup. He would write songs with lyrics lifted from Pantera songs. He tried to meet Damageplan before the show and was turned away. He was a stalker-fan. Nathan Gale was nobody, a nothing who means nothing to anyone. His only "contribution" to society was stealing the life of someone who was loved by many people. May his soul rot for eternity.

Kent had a near-miss on a Mike Schmidt Moment. Started to choke up, but caught himself. Dammit....I LOVE the weepy athlete press conferences....pure 24-karat comedy GOLD.

Much like Moises Alou, I think Maggs will find that he seemed more likable when he was silent.
-
I'm already bored of this whole thing. While I enjoyed watching Magglio play, it's over now.

I understand the point you're making, Tex, but you can't really equate the world of the professional athlete with the "real" world. I don't know how many of the White Sox make their off-season home in Chicago, but I'm guessing it's not many. I assume most players rent a home or apartment for the duration of the season. Therefore, the team they play for would have no bearing on their home purchase, children's schooling, etc. As for the "my boss likes someone better than me" thing, that same player didn't give a s*** about the person he replaced to get his shot, so boo-f***ing-hoo when it's time for the next guy to step in. It's part of the game, always has been. The main problem IMO is that these athletes have had their asses kissed ever since ever, and they just can't adjust to the idea that someone doesn't think that they're Jesus anymore.

Alou whined when he left the Cubs. Garciaparra cried about the Red Sox when they dealt him. If Pedro signs somewhere other than Boston, he WILL cry about the red Sox also. BANK on it. It's everywhere, and it's almost everyone. I don't let it bother me - Magglio talks about not wanting to leave, yet that thought means nothing when the Sox' offer isn't for every last penny he thinks he can squeeze out of them. Loyalty is a one-way street for players AND owners - players are out to maximize their earning power, owners are out to maximize their profits. Can't blame either side, but don't b**** to me about loyalty.

I'm still very pessimistic about this season. The owners aren't interested in compromise, they want surrender and unconditional victory ( meaning a salary cap ). Saw Roenick on SportsCenter and his rhetoric hadn't softened one bit. He basically reiterated that the owners want a cap, the players won't agree to one and that's that. He sang the praises of the salary TAX, and basically said the owners don't understand that they will save money with a tax. He then suggested that the owners should pass the salary tax savings on to the Average Joe hockey fan in the form of lower ticket prices.....yeah, THAT might happen..... There will eventually be some sort of settlement, but I'm afraid it won't save this season and it may not save the NHL as it currently exists ( or rather, as it existed up to last season ).

Unbelievable. Completely senseless and sad. RIP Darrell.

An unexpected win at home against a divisional opponent with a better record....hmmm.... THE BULLS ARE GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS, JUST LIKE THE BEARS!!!!

Ticked at Kobe, Mailman abandons Laker return
The Critic replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
No, because Gladys Knight performed with the Pips, and Diana Ross was a Supreme... -
I know I'D keep taking checks until no one gave them anymore.... Good Luck, Sandy Jr!!! See you on the coaching staff after they drag you off the field screaming!
-
I really don't have a huge problem with that, everyone's got their own approach to it. It's just when everything comes out negative that I wonder why someone'd keep doing that to themselves. I don't think you've done that, 44 - I see a lot of positivity in your posts, so I'd assume that you're not sour....yet....

Ladies and Gentlemen, We Have A Winner!!!! It's ENTERTAINMENT. That's ALL it is, and if you're not entertained, then watch something that will entertain you. God knows there's enough junk to watch out there... I'd love nothing more than for the Sox to win the whole f***in' thing, but if they don't ( which is every year ...wait, I mean ) I don't run around screaming and b****ing about it. People who know me in "real life" ( as opposed to this superhero life I'm living here ) know that when I play sports I have pretty huge expectations of myself, but ALL I expect from the White Sox is a fun day or night at the park. Seeing them win is more fun, of course, but I'm not going to let a professional sports team ruin my mood. If that makes me "less of a fan", then so be it - I'm not really in any Best Fan Ever competition anyway.
