  1. My favorite part of the article is the headline "Drugs in sports a fact of life" with Sosa's picture RIGHT underneath it!! It's hanging on the wall of my cubicle right now....
  2. So Bettman has floated the idea of giving three points for a regulation win, 2 points for an OT win and 1 point for an OT loss or tie. What's next, some kind of weird-ass soccer point system where you get points for number of goals scored? Radar has f***ed up the NHL somethin' fierce!
  3. I see USCF from the Orange Line ( albeit at a distance ) every day, and there's a lot more of the roof up now. It still doesn't look lke much - just a bunch of girders.
  4. I have a strange feeling that he'd be okay with getting out of the Incredible Shrinking Franchise.
  5. ...and only the first one was interesting...
  6. Nope. I have an irrational hatred for a s***ty starter who won't even attempt to help his team out of the bullpen because he "wouldn't even know how to warm up as a reliever". ( Dusty Baylor's hilarious line defending Estes' refusal to relieve ) I know nobody cares ( hell, I wouldn't care if I weren't me ), but if Worstest is wearing a Sox uniform coming out of ST, I'm gone til he is. Can't watch him - I refuse. Sorry.
  7. Nobody else's offer is gonna "weigh more" than Detroit's, so I-Pudge better sign the dotted line if money's the deciding factor.
  8. Yet another athlete who uses the phrase "treat me with respect" when what he REALLY means is "pay me a lot". You'd think I'd be used to that by now....oh well.....
  9. You know what, Tex? You can't HELP but be suspicious. People have been pulling the tug-at-the-heart-strings scams since time began. The fact that she barely knows you and would hit you up for cash is a HUGE red flag. She may not be scamming, but the scam artists of the world has made many people far less likely to help someone out than they might have been in the past. And the part that destroyed me about the Gary murders was the thought of dropping your child off and coming back later to find your child dead. I literally can not even imagine what I'd do and how broken I'd be if anything like that ever happened to me with my daughter....simply devastating.
  10. Nope. Not really a chat room guy, I like to post my opinion and leave it there to rot!
  11. Will these upgrades send the board crashing to the ground like the Blog did??
  12. The start is especially important this year, since the Sox play KC and the Yankees right off the bat. If the Sox want to deflate the KC bubble a bit, they NEED to dominate the early games. And to prove to doubters ( and maybe to themselves ) that this year's team CAN compete with the "better teams", they have to put up a good showing against NY. I really hope they come out of the gate hot this year, it'll make things SO much more enjoyable!!!
  13. My promise still stands: If the Sox sign Shawn Estes, I give up on them until he's gone. It was funny when he sucked for the Cubs - it would not be funny to watch him suck with the Sox. There were lots of FA pitchers I wanted the Sox to sign, he was NOT one of them.
  14. Yeah, and not one mention of the store selling Martha Stewart sweatshop stuff or its impending demise! ...oh wait, I just mentioned it...
  15. Gladly. Lee Elia was managing the Cubs ( I'm pretty sure it was 1983, but I could easily be wrong about that ), and the Wrigley "faithful" had just given their heroes a hearty booing after yet another lackluster effort. Elia was upset about the loss, but when some sap reporter asked about the "crowd" ( they didn't draw that well before 84 ), Elia went off. It's a classic rant, and still funny to this day. Hey, at least the Cub fans back then paid enough attention to understand that they should boo bad teams...
  16. I'd go to Chewing Gum Park to cheer for the Cardinals, Astros and Pirates. Probably hit St. Louis and Milwaukee for a game every now and then. It would be miserable, because I'm much more of an American League fan than National.
  17. If the White Sox moved away, they'd immediately become just another AL team to me. I already have "out-of-town" teams that I root for. I'd focus more on the Red Sox or A's than I would the _________ White Sox, because the Sox would have deserted their fans, and the A's or BoSox have never done that to me.
  18. Yeah, I guess you're right, after I re-read the contaxt of the bringing up of Office Space. I guess my reaction was based more on Steven Baldwin bringing up The Usual Suspects every time someone says he sucks as an actor ( which he does ). As far as Baldwin is concerned, "BioDome" erases The Usual Suspects from his resume, and The Flintstones movie is sitting there waiting to erase any other good movie he happens to accidentally appear in.
  19. The commercials and previews chased me away from this movie. Ben Stiller has become increasingly more annoying and the Stupid Factor of his movies is through the roof. I just plain don't like Jennifer Aniston one bit - I don't find her particularly attractive, and I can't stand her voice. Ans saying that Office Space was funny because of Jennifer Aniston is like saying that The Usual Suspects was good because of Steven Baldwin - completely inaccurate.
  20. I say the dress code should be on a player-by-player basis. Good looking players - naked. Decent looking players - uniform to accentuate their better qualities - for example: nice chest and chunky legs = topless with long pants Unattractive players - burqa This dress code, of course, ONLY applies to womens' sports. IT'S A MAN'S WORLD, BAYBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. Hadn't heard that version of the trade yet, but honestly, at this point I really expect nothing to happen. Sounds like they just mashed all the previous rumors together to make one big giant rumor. Every indication is that LA doesn't want to give up any of their top prospects, but maybe BOTH Maggs and PK changes their minds. Don't know, and I for one am really getting bored with any rumor involving the Dodgers.
  22. He'll be just like Alex Rodriguez. Great money, big numbers, not many wins, last place finish. It's all about your priorities, I guess. I am surprised that Detroit is willing to pony up 4 years for an older catcher.
  23. THIS brings up an interesting question: Why do some of us believe that Konerko will rebound, or that Koch will rebound, or even that Neil Cotts will rebound, but I haven't seen anyone insist that Dan Wright, a former 14-game winner, could rebound and be strong for the Sox this season? I'm not even saying anyone is necessarily wrong to dismiss the thought, but it's just weird that nobody has leapt to his defense ( unless I've missed it ) while even Koch, who's never done a damn thing for the Sox, has some folks believing he'll bounce back. Opinions, please?
  24. I'm VERY curious to get a look at Jeremy Reed this spring. I hope he can at least push Rowand ( or whoever is "the Choice" going into ST ) to be better and play solid CF. Maybe he can do more than that and win the job himself. It would be a good thing for the Sox, and the Sox NEED all the good news they can get.
  25. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I'd be more worried about having to sit in a wheelchair for life and how it would affect my everyday life, rather than bustin' a nut... But regardless, I hope it all works out for you, and maybe surgery can be avoided?
