  1. Yeah, I still attest that the seeding was pretty fake last year too though. The Sox would have been the 5 seed in a typical year with a two game lead over the 6 seed.
  2. The White Sox made the playoffs by 9 games last year in a 60 game season (meaning they had a 9 game lead over the team that "could have taken their spot". How is that "barely holding on?"
  3. Agreed, I've loved the way Collins has looked this year. Incredibly impressive improvement imo in multiple facets of the game. Hard to be consistent offensively without playing a lot but his contact has improved a lot and he's been fine with the glove. Certainly not "unplayable" like people were screaming for years.
  4. Between the White Sox and the Padres; one of their SS's has zero errors on the season, while the other teams SS has 9 errors in 16 games. TA74MVP
  5. The Pirates are terrible. They're every bit as bad as people think. Not sure what your second point means. Sox haven't played the Tigers once this year.
  6. Scouts are literally the people that said to give tatis, acuna and etc that little money. The angels drafted someone before trout that year. Those guys, if anything, are an indictment on the scouting community not an example of their immense skills. Robert is a better example of a scout and scouting community loving a guy without a lot of data, paying him a ton, and it paying off.
  7. Love to see nick shove it to all the haters.
  8. Hmmmm almost like nicky isn't worthless as an offensive player with his current "weakling" profile. If he finishes the year anywhere near 110-120 we'll just chalk it up to Harold's eye glass prescription being expired.
  9. Can you read? I said the odds of a scout being more accurate than a model over a large enough sample (not 1 or 2 players) is 1 in 1000000000. Please try to read before repeating the same fallacy over and over.
  10. Degrom isn't human, but he's getting older so by the chance kopech is in his prime he could be in that conversation no doubt.
  11. Still waiting for someone to show me evidence that babying pitchers has done anything but cause more injuries and arm problems. Amateur overuse is the problem for many, not professional work load.
  12. Through nearly 1 month, I couldn't have been more wrong about Eaton vs Pederson. Eaton is still terrible defensively but his bat in the 2 hole has been a perfect fit and it honestly looks like he's gonna sustain it most of the year. A great grab that I whiffed on and hahn crushed.
  13. Yes, the shift effects him but they've shifted on grandal for a while now. Thats not new to this year. His xwOBA is higher than all the years in the past where his actual production was much better.
  14. And thats a fair point, and at the end of the day actual production is the only way you score runs, but I think its fair to acknowledge hes had quite a bit of bad batted ball luck.
  15. they still shift him so... Also, thank you for pointing out the possibility that grandal may have never bunted right handed in his entire career before last night.
  16. See, in that situation bunting would make a ton of sense. Man on third can score with outs being recorded or passed balls. Man on second, you still need a hit. There's an article in this thread posted by another poster who I'm not supposed to name that breaks that down pretty good lol.
  17. I'm sure Tony is "open minded" to some analytics thinking. I don't want to say he's not at all willing to listen, but LaRussa is not the type of manager that is going to manage by a data book. Heck, even defensive positioning I think the White Sox have taken a step backwards from where they were last year - analytically speaking. It's his show.
  18. Tony larussa was not using advanced team metrics there. Thats pretty obvious to me. How can you have advanced metrics on grandals ability to do something hes done twice in 950ish career games and 3500 PA's. And yes, Robert has an incredible chance of swiping a bag vs travino. We can agree to disagree on this. It was a boneheaded move that put the game in the hands of a lesser hitter and gave up an out despite robert being able to steal without doing. Nicky big stick bailed him out though like the machine he is!
  19. Woh there buddy, no need for the name calling and capital letters. Have a great Sunday ?! Ps that article is about advancing a runner from 2nd to 3rd, not first to second, under the new extra innings rule. You might want to read the things you link.
  20. Yeah, I domt buy this at all. Luis robert was on first base. Luis has a higher percentage of stealing second successfully than grandal has of putting down a sac bunt successfully. Larussa absolutely decreased their odds of scoring a run. It makes zero sense to sacrifice Luis robeert over to second base with Trevino catching an a reliever on the mound. Luis steals that base with ease. Yasmani has two sacrifices in his entire career. People always act like sac bunts never fail when they do quite often. I'm very well aware of a bunt increasing the odds of scoring one run in certain situations. Given the batters and situation here, this was not one of those situations. You should never sacrifice a runner of roberts elite skill from one base to the next.
  21. Jason lives in your head 24/7. Stone being wrong is Jason's fault lol. Amazing stuff as always The odds of scoring a run in that situation given the batters decreased with the bunt. It certainly didn't increase by 10%. Youve got one of the five best base stealers in the game on first against a bad catcher and you think bunting is smart lol.. besides that, good post ha
  22. Grandal xwOBA is the highest of his entire career. Having bad luck with your batted balls is hard for some fans to understand and accept
  23. Lol what worked? The bunt didn't work. He took the bat out of the best hitter in the lineup, right now, hands and the following batter k'ed. Do you know what worked, means? Them scoring has nothing to do with how stupid and transparently bad that move was.
