Sox sign Adam Eaton 1 year, $7m plus option
All I can say to this is there are plenty of arrogant loud mouths in high level sports clubhouses. Imo, Eaton is not a classic example of that. Every team has someone who pushes or shoves all day, and some guys definitely can be bothered by that. The difference is, in those clubhouses people get that. That's not what Eaton was. How do I know? Because it takes a special breed of dick for many teammates and players to publicly rip you in the press. I'll use Carl as an example. From all I have heard, Carl was a psychopath and impossible to get along with. You still didn't have people putting their name on their slander of him publicly. Even AJ - with the exception of garland calling him a horrible person post retirement lol - didn't have teammates putting their name on slandering him. Aubrey huff was a horrible teammare - shocking news - but no one hated him so much they were gonna call him out in the press. When you see guys say everyone hates this guy, and they put their name on it in those clubhouses, it means Eaton is above and beyond the guys youre explaining. Maybe he's matured but it seems unlikely. And Kendrick is backing his guy, that's fine. I'm not saying everyone in baseball hates Eaton. Baseball is full of tons of personalities, but for him to be laughed at by so many shows he's a special breed of bozo. There was the outfielder the cubs signed Milton Bradley- he had that kind of hatred brewing throughout the game. I kind of loved Milton for that though lol.

defense apparently isn't a concern either. so power and defense weren't a concern when acquiring a right fielder. Brilliant work

The media hated Dick Allen, I don't remember a single teammate coming out against him from what I read. In fact, I remember - although this could have been later and I'll defer to your memory from when he played as I wasn't around - countless teammates coming out in support of Dick and saying the media treated him poorly and lied about him because he wasn't accessible to them.

Plenty of assholes have won titles. In many cases, they were very good players who were tolerated. It's an odd choice to put up with an asshole who also isn't very good. Maybe the Sox convinced themselves it was all Robin Venturas fault... who knows. Can you name another player you remember whose own teammates came out adamantly against them in the public sphere? It's rare for that to happen.

Isn't Ozzie Guillen a member of the White Sox family? Didn't he say "no one liked Eaton" on camera? I just don't get this big push from some Sox fans to disprove the narrative that has been substantiated by both Todd Frazier - who also said "Ask ANYONE in the White Sox clubhouse about Eaton" and Ozzie Guillen. Was Ozzie Guillen personally his manager? No. Does Ozzie Guillen have relationships with guys who were his teammate? Absolutely.

It's not the player, it's the process
I'm not in love with the move, but I'm on board with it. I'm a low man on Lynn and I think command is severely undervalued in the pitching market in the modern game that focuses so much on stuff or location in young arms, so I'm likely a little higher on Dunning IF the command is real. There's also just a real possibility it's not elite command and that Dunning is a dud; that means the horse that gets you to 3-4 WAR next year, pitches deep into games, preserves your bullpen, and most of all pitches every fifth day becomes an incredibly valuable asset for where this team sits today. They need at least 3 pitchers they can count on to carry the load, and they didn't have that. Would I prefer not giving up something, sure... do I find it offensive that they're going to fill that hole with a cheap and good option and not use that money elsewhere? Yes. Do I think investing big money in a closer is the dumbest thing this team could ever do given their depth of young and electric bullpen arms and their perceived ability to develop bullpen talent? Absolutely.

It's not the player, it's the process
I'm not really trying to make a point regarding the quality of those contracts; the point is that the White Sox act like the Pirates and the Indians and that's embarrassing. Finding the right guys to spend that big money on is up to the GM's and front office; not being able to spend at those levels at all is inexcusable for a franchise that is no where near the bottom in team valuation rankings.

It's not the player, it's the process
Why do people say this and list three teams. In the history of the game, only the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Cleveland Indians and the Oakland Athletics have a smaller "largest contract in team history." Even the Tampa Bay Rays have offered 26 million more than the Sox ever have. Please stop acting like fans want the Sox to be the Yankees. I want them to act like every team in MLB that isn't the bottom three spenders in the game. Diamondbacks gave Greinke 200 million. Brewers gave Yelich 188 million Mariners gave Cano 240 million Padres just gave Machado 300 Million Orioles gave Chris Davis 166 miLOLion Blue Jays gave Vernon Wells 126 million Those teams have smaller market shares than the White Sox and all have offered almost two to three times as much as the Sox have.

Timmy is gonna be our Walter Payton - god be willing. My uncles still sit around the holiday dinner table reminding me that Walter was the back up place kicker and the 3rd string QB. "Did you know that Walter was as good as Adam Vinatieri and Peyton Manning but he wanted to be Jim Brown instead!?!?! Amazing Athlete." In twenty years I'm gonna be my uncles: "Did you know Tim Anderson was compared to Buster Posey and Mark Salas, but wanted to be Ozzie Smith! Amazing athlete and individual!"

I like Jimmy a lot - I think he knows that; I have complimented his work plenty and even commented that for someone I don't know he seems like a heck of a guy as well. I don't know if you haven't noticed Ron, but the insiders tend to get a bit more defensive when they are disagreed with or called out. I don't really care if you're an insider or a homeless guy living on 35th and shields, if I don't agree I'm gonna have some fun with it. Most people just joke around back and enjoy the banter, but some don't. Also, I think Jimmy knows now that I - in no way - am calling into question the validity of his thoughts. The only time he got upset was when I joked that he was carrying water because I know how much he hates Jerry and would never carry water. I hate taking these threads off tangent like this so I'll leave it there. And Ron, if you haven't figured out that I'm messing around on here by now I can't help you my friend. None of this is serious. For 1, it's baseball - a game - and we're White Sox fans; misery is our company. Second of all, we're in the middle of the pandemic and I'm working overtime trying to further my career, get my masters and donate a lot of time to helping a lot of people in need. This is my escape from those realities. Carl Everett for White Sox President of Baseball Operations 2021! Jerry ain't telling Carl no!

lol. I have good fun here on these days; it's a nice break from work and the grind of this pandemic. This holiday season has been tough. If people take it seriously, or personally, or can't manage rebutting someones response who disagrees with them... I'm sorry to hear that and wish them the best in finding their confidence! You won't see me calling people names or getting personal as raBBit tries to claim though, but everyone knows the best people to raz are those who can't manage it. i'm here to generate some discussion and rile up the troops! But always remember:

? Devastating to hear. It's hard when someone presents you with some tough truths. I still remember when you accused me of carrying water for the front office. And didn't raBBit delete a bunch of posts to hide the fact that he was wrong about something on this very forum? That makes a lot of sense; people who care about being right and what others think of them online tend to be an overly sensitive bunch.

So you think the White Sox are going to spend big on a RF'er and SP now that they acquired Lynn and Eaton. Listen, you can ignore all the tea leaves that points to the Sox spending no money - trading for the affordable SP and signing a cheap replacement level RF'er - but I'm done giving this team the benefit of the doubt. All they do is lie and pocket the money they make from fans without investing it in the ball club.

I responded to a post you made in a thread I was posting in. I've told you this multiple times; you seem to think I seek you out. When I post on days like this, I post a lot. You happen to be around on these days and your so self involved that you seem to think I'm here searching out your posts and ignore that 99.9999% of my posts are not directed or responding to you. It's really odd. People bust my balls all day when I post here, it bothers me about 0%. Do I poke at people who get really defensive when everyone doesn't agree with them? Of course, that's the most fun. Just as people call me a loud mouth opinionated d-bag at times, which is an accurate assessment of the way I bust peoples chops. There's really no way to justify signing Eaton to be your starting RF'er in a year that you're all in. Not only do I think Eaton is now not a good baseball player, but I also think he's a dick. He's also immature and thought a child was the leader of his team when he was 27/28 years old. He wasn't some kid.

The Yankees are 100% bringing back Lamahieu, and I would bet they sign Bauer. The Dodgers paid 385 million for Mookie mid-season instead of waiting for him to be a free agent. Amazing to see the spin on how cheap the White Sox are over and over and over and over again.

look another guy who can't take a joke online. I even had to add the i kid i kid because i Knew how upset you get when people don't bow before you on this forum. You stopped posting well before I arrived buddy, and if your skin is so thin that you can't bust balls online talking about the Sox then i feel bad for you in general.

How do the White Sox have a better lineup than the Yankees? They have Madrigal, Eaton and no DH at the moment. Eaton and Madrigal could both very easily be bad. Ding ding ding.

Nomar Mazara vs Adam Eaton (2020)
I'll throw this in here as well as it's always good for a laugh. There are two guys in my baseball life that I remember hearing openly hateful things directed at them from their own clubhouses; Adam Eaton and Nick Swisher. I guess Carl too, but man people just didn't understand the Dinosaur man!

Sox sign Adam Eaton 1 year, $7m plus option
I find it fascinating how you continually pick Adam Eaton's career year to explain his talents; completely ignoring what has happened over time. For his career Eaton averages 11 home runs per 162 games. In his career, he averages playing 103 games in a season - over 8 years. That means Eaton, on average, is a 6-7 home run per season guy.

Never forget when someone tells you it was just one guy who didn't like Eaton: Not surprised someone like Rabbit likes Eaton, sounds like they got a lot in common. ? I kid, i kid.

Nomar Mazara vs Adam Eaton (2020)
No lineup with Adam Eaton and Nick Madrigal is the toughest lineup in the AL; it's certainly not better than the Yankees lineup. And what are you talking about? The Sox didn't just not sign Bauer/Springer, they signed a guy that a team whose trying to contend - the Nationals - didn't even want to pay 9 million dollars to. Saying people are upset because it wasn't Springer is a joke; Adam Eaton wasn't one of the 4 best available right fielders. You can just ignore the last two years of his career if you want to pretend he's someone else, but those years happened. He's never healthy and guys who struggle with injuries age worse than guys who don't. It's very possible the White Sox just signed a well below average starting outfielder to "fill out" their roster in a season in which they're all in... but please, tell us how it was such a great move.
