  1. His fastball looked good; had great life. His stuff, in general, looked really good.
  2. Why would he sign away 4 FA years? Seems like a lot. I think getting 2 would be a huge win; doubt he'd sign away until his age 32 season but who knows.
  3. Two bad pitches by Hamilton and two bombs; his stuff looks to be there, but the location is trash. His slider looks pretty nasty.
  4. I found it odd as well, and actually had no idea he blocked me until he was quoted in something else and I couldn't read it. Given that I never attack people personally, and don't make anything more than just a debate of facts/merit, maybe Keith was just having a bad day.
  5. Yeah, Vaughn is not a big guy in general. Those legs drive everything he does and it generates top of the line power despite a compact swing and a smaller upper body.
  6. Was off his shin it looked like; regardless, yeah he looks fine. That guy just looks so comfortable and natural in the batters box.
  7. His hands look a bit softer; wonder if the work with Grandal/McCann has helped at all. He just has to be an adequate receiver; throwing out runners and blocking balls is whatever.
  8. His swing is about as quiet and short as one can possibly get. Don't get distracted by pre-pitch bat movement that is just a timing mechanism.
  9. Vaughn is just a professional hitter; worked a great AB there despite rolling over on one.
  10. I will say this about Law, he is one of the most sensitive members of the media. Keith Law is the only person/thing/site on all of the internet who has ever blocked me from participating in discussions. I have never attacked Law, or said anything personal, and frankly I rarely ever interacted with him. If you disagree with Keith, he will likely block you regardless of how cordial you are and how well thought out your responses are. That is my one and only beef with someone like Law. If you want to put your opinions out there, and frequently go against consensus, you should be prepared to support your opinions and express them without anger.
  11. It is against the rules; I don't know why people keep saying otherwise. It is defined ambiguously so, in terms of contract law, the arbiter has to side with the ownership side because there are no defined terms to determine "readiness." This was an oversight by the MLBPA, but it doesn't mean it should give ownership the right to act in bad faith. It's similar to the players escaping punishment with the sign stealing situation; it "technically" was not against the rules for the players because it wasn't agreed upon within the CBA. It was very obviously wrong, though. I agree the Sox have treated some young guys well - although some would say the Sox are leveraging their exploitation to get players to sign extensions - but that doesn't excuse them manipulating a system in bad faith against Madrigal. Young players should be paid more in general.
  12. I am a very firm believer in acting in good faith as an employer; I think it is a staple of being a quality and respected employer in an industry. I do not feel that baseball FO's are acting in good faith by exploiting service time. Just because something isn't defined thoroughly does not give one an excuse to not act in good faith.
  13. There are rules against it, just as an FYI. I don't know why people continue to say there are not; it is written within the CBA it is just not defined in a way that allows the arbiter to side with the players.
  14. It's not bad business when you take care of your own; I would argue the exact opposite. I think it's bad business to exploit your workers and let them know you're doing it. You get Kris Bryant level fall outs between players and FO when you do that. We have all had this argument plenty so there's no need to rehash, but service time exploitation is against the rules and the Sox should stop doing it immediately.
  15. LOL at the top 100 is a list of 100 players who could be a great. That is comical.
  16. I actually root for every player to have a slow/poor spring because I prescribe to the non-scientific and non-statistical due theory. All joking aside, I actually do not mind everyone having slow springs because players should be working on things they're not as good at; eg., only attacking off-speed pitches and letting fastballs slide, working counts deep to see more pitches, going the other way if your swing has been pull happy and on and on. Pitchers do the same thing. How many huge springs are followed up by slow Aprils and vice versa.
  17. White Sox twitter up in arms about Ricky's spring training lineup. lol
  18. The projection of guys at the back end of the top 100 is about 10 career fWAR. 1-3 (30-40+) 60-80FV 3-10 (25+) 55-60 FV 11-40 (20+) 50-55 FV 40-80 (15+) 50 FV 80-100 (10+) 45-50 FV Those are the projected career WAR's - roughly - based on the FV's. If you think Madrigal fits in at 15+, he falls into the 50FV bracket. Those are median projections.
  19. This is a shot in the dark, and I should have said something prior, but there is a big sports trivia in Oak Park/River Forest every February for a good cause. Maybe someone here participated? There's a ton of entries. It is at Trinity Girls School - there are about 100 teams 600+ participants. All entries go to a good cause; free beer and food as well. I will post a link for next year if anyone at Soxtalk is interested in investing in a team of 6 or if anyone has friends that would want to do it. https://www.stgilessportstrivia.com/ Is the link; We are a year away from next years, but everyone can plan accordingly. I am a big fan of the trivia, and my squad dethroned the team who had won 5 years in a row this year so this is a slight humble brag as well.
  20. I get it, and that's a fan mentality. Ricky needs to spread AB's out - give some guys more looks than others (like an Engel as he fights for that 4th OF spot) - and manage rest and etc for the starters. If I can think of one thing that means literally nothing in life, a spring training batting order might be at the top of my list.
  21. The White Sox should not care one bit about a game just because it's on television.
