Edwin Encarnacion - DH
Not every position can or needs to be filled with an uber expensive FA. Encarnacion stands to be a 4 win improvement at the position over last year, and will allow flexibility for better FAs.

Edwin Encarnacion - DH
A. Will likely greatly improve lineup B. Will not take much financial commitment It's not sexy, and people will b****, but I think he makes the most sense at DH at this point.

Edwin Encarnacion - DH
Soooooooooooo, just keep doing it then? And you know you can sign both impact players and filler players at the same time right?

Edwin Encarnacion - DH
Is there any indication the Sox have any interest in Grandal? I have a feeling they're content with McCann.

A Realistic Offseason
I absolutely do not think they'll sign Rendon or Cole, but it has nothing to do with reputation or market size or whatever else.

A Realistic Offseason
The point being made is that everybody has to offer the most money

A Realistic Offseason
What we’ve seen though is players sit and wait until some team set their offer apart. There are exceptions like Piscotty feeling the need to be in Oakland, but not many

Two of those guys you listed aren't getting anything more than a year.

An outside shot at a wild card game, and still the flexibility to get better in FA? Y'know what definitely does nothing for this team? Playing Charlie Tilson's and Ryan Cordell's

A Realistic Offseason
Roughly 3-4 wins better at each position you just listed. Those are places the Sox could greatly improve just by filling each of those positions where everyone's only qualification is 'Belongs in the MLB'. Aim Higher, but don't do nothing.

Brewers, Braves

I would just like to reiterate that MLB endorsements amount to jack squat. Any difference in endorsements can be made up easily. Like a couple hundred thousand dollars a year easily.
-
A Realistic Offseason
They shouldn't be celebrated for it, but they're 100% in a better position without him.

A Realistic Offseason
There are only 3 teams in the MLB that reach more TVs. There are only two markets where player x's face on a highway billboard or a subway commercial would be seen by more people. That's not getting into the fact that all but like 4 players get endorsement money in the hundreds of thousands.

Whichever team gave him the 300 million he wanted.

A Realistic Offseason
Says who? You guys are just projecting. The Sox don't sign the best players becasue they don't offer the most money. End of story.

A Realistic Offseason
The only person playing for the Cubs vs the Sox would make a tangible difference to is Bryce Harper, and even then the difference is likely not much.
-
A Realistic Offseason
I'm not sure what I disagree with more, that the vast majority of players care about anything but money, or that the Chicago White Sox are less desirable than the Tampa Bay Rays.

Angels decline $14 million option on Kole Calhoun
We have already seen this proven to be completely false when bumped against the Luxury tax.
-
A Realistic Offseason
The Sox are in a position where adding a handful of 2-3 win players will give them a chance. I want them to aim higher than that, but the absolute dumbest thing they can do is sit on their hands and do absolutely nothing, burning more core years in the process. A 2 win RF, DH, and Pitcher are probably honestly worth more like, what 10 wins for this team when you account for the holes that they'd be filling?

A Realistic Offseason
I don't hate it if you add one more pitcher and find someone to play right and have Castellanos DH.
-
A Realistic Offseason
Tack Calhoun on there, NC becomes your everyday DH. That could play. Not a perfect fit, but that's a much better lineup.

Sox issue qualifying offer to Abreu
Then he's gone next year. Him taking the QO is much better than getting some gift deal from the Sox.
-
A Realistic Offseason
Take the 25 mil a year you planned to spend on JD and give it to Grandal and Calhoun and call it a day on the offense.
-
Sox issue qualifying offer to Abreu
18 mil is way to much for abreu, but for a year I can't really bring myself to be upset about it.
