  1. Well stated "opinion."
  2. Opinion defined is a view or judgement formed about something not necessarily based on fact. Of course, it's refutable. In the collective mind of professional scouts, he was among the best players in his draft class. He was fast tracked to the majors and almost immediately had injury problems. In my "opinion"...the jury is still out on his worth.
  3. For the reason you stated. Competiton drives up the return.
  4. Fans never want to overpay. We want to give up half a dozen crap players for the other guy's star. The best trades are Dick Allen for Tommy John straight up type deals. I have a need...you have a need. We have a need for a high-quality right fielder, and a high-quality second baseman. Whoever can best fill that order can have Cease IMO. I know that we can use some high-quality pitchers as well...but we aren't going to receive 3 high end players for 2 years of Cease.
  5. Thanks for the enlightened "opinion."
  6. Thant's why I ended my comment with IMO. Now we have your "opinion."
  7. Seems like Getz is stockpiling projects for Bannister and his veteran catchers. Might just work with a few of these guys.
  8. Well...I agree with the swell dude part.
  9. I remember Carlos Lee for Scotty Pods got this same reaction. Lots of different types can make a really good team. Unless your team can buy the best player available at every position...compromises need to be made. Madrigal will end up being a very useful player one of these days IMO.
  10. What I mean is I prefer major league ready players rather than a year or two away. Also, quantity is not as important as quality.
  11. If the Cubs are successful in resigning Bellinger...Pete Crow-Armstrong will be blocked as is Madrigal. My belief is we need to find blocked players that are major league ready at our two weakest positions. I like Madrigal more than most here, but the concept of blocked players is my interest in posting. The two position players I mention plus a #3/4 potential SP and perhaps a RP with potential would be a very satisfactory return for Cease.
  12. Build a package for Cease around Pete Crow-Armstrong and Madrigal. Buy our playoff tickets.
  13. Getz made the Hill deal today even with the WS offices being closed. He lives and breathes this stuff 24/7.
  14. Getz is trying to improve the culture. These former studs are like extra coaches. Maldonado, Sizemore, DeJong, etc. is an attempt to have our young players surrounded by pros weather players or coaches. I know it isn't sexy, but I like having guys like Moncada and Eloy being influenced by guys who have been there.
  15. That often means a deal is getting close.
  16. When it's all said and done...I want to see a stud right fielder and another good major league infielder or pitcher. The better they are...the less I care about the other two pieces. Much rather have quality over quantity.
  17. I like that Getz is letting this play out. Lot's of new GM's would want to pull the trigger and make a splash. I have a good feeling about how this is going to work out.
  18. Langford is just what we should be looking for. Major league ready but blocked. The others look nice but to far away from the majors for my taste.
  19. Agreed...those teams have a blocked right fielder are super high on the list.
  20. Parity is the status of being equal. In my mind 29 to 1 is not equal. Before you say it...neither is 25 to 5.
  21. It feels a bit like being a fan of the Washington Capitals playing the Globetrotters.
  22. The non-baseball fan will talk about these "ridiculous" contracts for a couple days and then go back to being non-baseball fans IMO.
