He got through 24 batters...even better than I expected. Really kept us in the game. Go Sox.

I agree. We should always be trying to improve our roster no matter how good it is. Five TOR starters would be great but sometimes you need to improvise until that goal is achieved.

I was referring to you using the 2 homers he gave up today as some form of meaningful proof of Detwiler being bad. I simply pointed out that your point of view was wrong. Even good pitchers have bad innings or for that matter bad games. So in the end...I think Detwiler is better than you do...I can live with that.

I've seen Sale give up 2 homers in one inning. These small window observations don't mean a thing to me. He's not walking the bases full nor loading the bases every inning.

Who would you suggest? Next year when we have a lineup that can produce runs...you only need these 5th starter situations to keep you in the game. Not necessarily throw shutouts. I like our pitching for next year but some creativity will still be necessary. One way to us a starter who is lefty is pair him with a righty starter.

This forum has talked many times of the need to limit innings next year for Kopech, Cease and Rodon. Seems pretty reasonable to use openers in those situations.

If his role was to get one time through the order he would be serviceable. Possibly an opener for Cease.

Detwiler doesn't bother me like he does some of you. If we used an opener he would be pretty good I believe. Lefty who throws strikes works for me in a limited role.

It's That Time Of The Year Again...
The last few draft years we have pretty much taken the consensus pick for our slot and that has worked out OK in my opinion. When KW was general manager we took swings for the fences on athletes who failed miserably because they were football players in baseball uniforms. Kenney always thought he was smarter than the entire universe of baseball talent scouts. He wasn't!

White Sox Winner!!
Nova & Lopez look like different pitchers lately. I wonder if some of that has been the McCann influence.

It's That Time Of The Year Again...
Mike Trout was drafted 25th overall. It would seem knowing who to pick is a matter of evaluating the best talent available when it's your turn. Plenty of top 5 draftees never make it. Some franchises are really good at this and many others not so much. Lot's of small/medium market teams stand out such as Atlanta, St. Louis, Minnesota and Milwaukee. When these teams lose a player it always seems someone Is ready to step up.

Colome remains with White Sox, who always had ample interest in him
Jay and Nova are what we thought they would be. Colome and McCann have been pleasant surprises. Only Alonso crapped the bed.

He is ideal in the backup roll.

And not particularly loved by his players. That might be a good thing.

Free Agency - How confident are you?
I trust Hahn to get a quality starter or two. He knows this club needs that kind of steady influence. He is not as clueless as some on this board think.

Lineup Optimization
The only reason this is hard to figure out is because we will be loaded. Nice problem to have.

I guess he has an option with them as well so might not be available even if we want him.

This would be a very nice move getting Grandal. What's the feeling on what he might cost.

Lineup Optimization
When all the parts of our future lineup are on the team...you could pull names out of a hat and the lineup would look formidable. Modern thought seems to have your best hitters batting high in the order in order to get the most at bats. Former lineups featured speed at the top with your best hitters in the 3 and 4 spot. I personally like old fashioned lineup construction.
