Sam Smith talks about the Sox.....a positive post
cwsox replied to sox-r-us's topic in Pale Hose Talk
now there is a phrase that I am almost afraid to ask what it means... but I have not heard it before - is it good or bad? -
today at lunch - 14,999 and I even knew that last question, just hit the "4" button by mistake and repunched "5" immediately and got only 999... and finished 2nd nationally instead of tied for first - damn damn damn so close and yet so far

lots of excellent points in that article and I just wanted to highlight two of them. -
back to the working out all year thing - last night I was really pushing myself at the gym including a half hour of high cardio and medium weights simultaneously and as I was moving into the 3rd hour and wanted to stop, I started think of Aaron Rowand's workout routine and especially the part where he does the crunches and catches/throws the weighted ball at the same time and somehow Aaron inspired me to keep going. Since I also did about 20 minutes of lunges with weights I was thinking about Kelly Wunsch's lunge routines - I am going to try that the rest of winter, using their off season workout stuff for inspiration as well as ideas for some different moves for me to do

Baseball (and all pro sports) these days is a 12 month job, Frank isn't on vacation, he is working out as part of his job. When that much money rides on your body, you got to be in shape. If I were making $6 million a year I wouldn't return phone calls either. Hell, I don't return phone calls now. That is why I have caller ID and an answering machine. Saves a lot of grief to be not home for certain calls! It would take at least a candy gram to get me to consider responding!

Molto, I watch it and didn't hear that and I think I would have. But I could have missed it. But not likely.

Here is a thought - if God were a landlord - and of course the Palestinians are the descendents of people who lived there before Abraham and his foreign entourage first arrived from Babylon (Iraq - yes, Abreham was an Iraqi) - if the land was given to the 12 tribes of Israel, God removed that gift first in th loss of 10 tribes of Northern Israel forever to the Assyrians in the 7th-8th century BCE and then in about 585 BCE the final two tribes of the nation of Judah were removed by the Babylonians - the Biblical record makes clear this was a revocation of the "gift" God then restored, after a few generations, the right of the descendants of Judah who were in captivity in Babylon, to return to the old neighborhood - and this happened without war being waged on Israel's (Judah's) part - it was a gift without war then in 70 CE and finally about 120 CE the Romans destroyed Jerusalem (rebuilt after the return from Bablyon) and of course the Temple in 70 CE and deported every living Jew escape a handful eho escaped, who they came back and got around 120 CE, deporting the last suriving Jew in that area. Suely if God is God, this would be God's action as it was when it was the Asyrians and Babylonians doing it - if one takes the prophets seriously. Then it would follow that as the Hasidic felt in 1947 and 1948 that if God wants to restore the gift, God will do so without war. But the Biblical obligation which "gives" the gift also at the same time cntains very strict commandments that the foreigner, the alien, the sojourner, the one is not a member of the community (ie the palastinians who have lived there for millenia) must be made welcome and treated as one of the community - thus says the Bible, the document which purports to give the gift of this land. The situation of Israel in 1967 and the 1970s no longer pertains. One of the most chilling scenes in The Pianist is when the nazis begin to erect the wall. to wall off, to ghetto off, the Jews. The current situation drips with irony.

bigred, I paid for this article so I will repost it a few times! This explains better than I can why I detest the idea of Cuban as the owner of any sports team. Stan Smith Chicago Tribune 12-29-03 Sports section, page 2 getting this cost me $2.95 but for those who only follow the SI glitz, my gift... Dallas soap opera: We know how players get a coach fired. They just curtail their effort. But how do players get an owner fired? It turns out padded slippers and fluffy towels aren't enough to overcome Mark Cuban's insincerity, disingenuousness, hypocrisy and pretension. Anyone get the picture here? The Mavs players surely have. They are 17-12, which would be cause for celebration with the Bulls. But the Mavs were 25-4 at this time last year. And they're 4- 10 on the road, the only top Western team with a losing road record. There has been talk of Dirk Nowitzki's bothersome ankles and Michael Finley's injuries and slump. But insiders and players say the same spirit and drive are gone, emptied by the double dealing and personal aggrandizement of owner Cuban. It's one reason why All- Star guard Steve Nash talked of going to Toronto when he becomes a free agent. Players are confused about the constant personnel changes, like the deals for Antoine Walker and Antawn Jamison that have left only five players from last season's conference finals team. Even now, Cuban is talking about taking on troublesome Rasheed Wallace. Promises to popular veterans like Tim Hardaway and Nick Van Exel were broken. Players were upset with Cuban's obsessive courtship of Pat Riley last season that held up coach Don Nelson's extension. Now, insiders say, Cuban will dump Nelson the minute Riley says he'll come aboard. To no one's surprise, Cuban is blaming Nelson and his staff for the struggles this season. "The issue isn't so much with our players as it is with our coaching staff just drilling them and drilling them and drilling them to death," Cuban said last week. "In terms of personnel, I wouldn't change it for anything." Until he does. Dallas has now become one of the most unfriendly places in the NBA for players

no big deal, i've had a few.

true. They laid down and stopped playing. They said, hell, we have a minute to go and tied, lets f*** this up and not cover anyone and lose. Right.
-
this year's special teams pklayers, yes, but this claim goes for 6 consecutive palyoff appearances, not 3. So it would apply to Vinitieri and Ty Law but we are talking qbs here. That is the point. Manning will always be blocked by someone from michigan. Manning lost the Hesiman to Woodson. Manning will never be the best as long as Tom Brady is playing. That is "best" as defined by "winning the Super Bowl." See baggio's post above. There was no doubt that Brady was going tot ake them down the field. Didn't matgter the Panther's kicker helped them out because (1) that is part of the game and (2) the pats gave that back on the offensive pass interferance call.

Williams should be included on here. He may get no votes but since when do we just shill for the other guys? Rauch, I am asking your permission to add KW to the list.
-
Damn. I was hoping you'd say to me "You may be right" again!
-
depends on the day - I finished first with a 13,400 something today last week had a 14,200 something and only made top ten some days just busier than others

Brady = 1/2 way to Montana after 3 seasons as starter- and undefeated in playoff appearances

2K4, if you had p[layed from 1-1:30 pm today Eastern time, guess who you would have seen finish first nationally?
-
this would be the other closest to pick that I can see and this one may be the closest pick ... in fact, by the powers invested in me (which are none I declare this the winner! 2K4, I wasn't playing the points, I was playing the ball in Brady's hands with under 2 minutes with the game on the line and the Pats needing to score - otherwise your comment is well taken, Mr. You May Be Right
-
although 3 shots do not a pick make, the "more probable" scenario appears to me to be the second closest guess of any (except for my warning in post #2 to not bet against the Pats...) keep reading for the closest pick I am leaving the thread open to see if others agree or disagree

how the hell do you find this stuff? You da man!

MTV had been hinting all week about some shocking thing with janet Jackson - but they didn't name Justin Timberlake as performing until half time began - now the song goes "I'll get you naked" and the dance they did before that line was sung was very suggestive - these are two of the most choreographed people in the world - since I know the song and the lyrics, I expected something the moment I heard the first two notes of that song - that was as planned as all hell and very effective for getting people to remember the half time show - it will be covred all week on ET and every other show of its type and everywhere else too - great PR going into sweeps month.
