  1. I'll take you up on that bet.
  2. the Pulp Fiction version is *the* version of that counting saying - every other way you have heard it is an attempt to clean it up since the civil rights era began, before the births of most of you. So any referance to "eenee meenie..." recalls the racial slur, at least for persons of a certain age. And its orgin, the poem itself, comes from the slave trade. So, Nuke, that is exacty what those women heard. I was not offended by Nuke's use of the term, that word, in his post, in that particular post, since he was using in (a bit insensitively) in a more academic and not in a name calling way. Yet Steff shows us that any use is offensive to some, and to that we need to be sensitive. I think that if anyone were to use the N word as name calling we would agree it was hate speech. Believe it or not, but this is the way it is: the use of the word "f*g" (and its synonyms) as name calling is the equivilant to use of the word "n*****" and thus is offensive and hate speech when used in name calling. Not acceptable, not allowable. Lots of other non hate tinged words can be used in insulting one another. A suggestion: use the term "suburban white boy" in any insult in which one may wish to use the N or the F word. If the motivation of using one set of words is held to be non offensive, using "suburban white boy" will be equally non offensive. If anyone has a problem with using "suburban white boy" as an insult, then that is the point of why the other terms are considered offensive and not allowed. Should these women have sued? In America that is their right. The court will sort it out. That is the American way. That is the best way.
  3. thanks Mathew - I see that Bush or Chimp site which Spiff wants to keep talking about as a humor site, like the poking fun or parodies that are done on SNL or by stand up comedians. I did not see it at all remotely as a hate site. Not remotely close. I still don't. I think Spiff is pushing a personal grudge or personal agenda or a political agenda to claim that gently humerous site is a hate site. If others see it as a hate site, all those cute pictures, I would say my perception is wrong. Maybe someone shoudl do a poll, if it is worth it, and I doubt it since Spiff is the only one still on it, but really Spiff, that is in no way a hate site, not remotely, not a chance in hell. It is a humor site. It is as gently humerous as the monologues of Letterman and Leno and one of them even did the Bush Chimp thing- are they purveyors of hate? Find a way to show me that that funny site is hate, and I will be open to seeing your documentation to establish that, and if it turns out it is a hate site, I will apologise that I misunderstood the site. So please put your thoughts and proofs tigether and pm me and I will read them seriously.
  4. Lieberman and Kucinich - punchlines at best Dean fading and soon gone Clark - NH was not what he had hoped for - if he does well in anything upcoming soon he stays in So it is Kerry - Edwards - and maybe Clark. It will be one of these 3. And far more likely this year than others, two of those three will be on the ticket if Kerry is on top. The polling data is fascinating.
  5. anything for you - anything you are that good a friend!
  6. And damn it, she is unavailable!
  7. and Rex - you said I kind of said that above. he made a mistake. we all do. He is still in baseball. That was mistake he should not have made, but he has rebounded. But help me, my friend, you know I have the greatest respect for you and listen to you and I am trying to sort this out - if he did joke about this in confidence, then what was it he denied? I am glad he is still in baseball.
  8. Rex, had anyone else said that, I would have taken that as meaningless. But from you... that makes a difference. What you say - succinctly - makes sense. Also know you as a friend of WB so... If your version is the or closer to the reality that what was the au currant story, then note I did post right away to say I was glad he was still in baseball. If your story is true, it is good he is away from KW for his own sake. If the other version has has some truth to it, glad he is working. If there is a kind of combo of the various stories, whateer, he is working. Your insights are always very appreciated because you are so literally seeing from a perspective none of us have access to, so thanks for the heads up. And still glad WB got a job!
  9. sounds like all Pac Rim players get that - hey, you want to compete, you gotta off the standard perks

don't have to run the video, just say, i kissed a little ass to raise the money
  11. spiff, he has no need to dig in the conversation would go no place - what I have said about Scriptures stands in its fullness and complexity and this is not the place to continue on parsing this word or that word on that subject - what is written is written and stands and taht it that. No more on that topic for we have placed the point of time and place and having meaning. When I saw you post, I was looking forward to your views on God. I would them interesting I think, for your perspective would undoubtedly be something I have not heard before and I could file that away as a legitimate variation on the God question. Espeically if you disbelive. I find the think of those who doubt or reject to be interesting, educational, and stimulating. Go for it Spiff!
  12. maybe we should just play without one. We haven't had a good one in a long time, and certainly not one that anyone was happy with, so look at the money we could save on payroll to sign someone else if we went without a shortstop!
  13. he reportedly said that and it has never been denied. Such gross disloyalty and self-seeking is totally inapprorpriate. I was a Backman supporter until I heard that. Any player or manager who is calling the opponent to say what he said - he's gone. I am glad he got a job elesewhere. Everyone makes mistakes. He made one that got him fired. He did not get blacklisted, he is still in baseball, so it ended well and I hope he thrives in his new position.
  14. People were banned because of utterly vile lies they said using homosexuality as a launching pad, for vicious personal attacks that were horrendously untrue and as out and out vicious as could be. No one deserved banning more than BMR, clujer, and oldroman. Imagine the surprise that they have been banned at other sox sites. Hate speech here is not allowed, never has been, never will be. Someone refers to a person's racial background in an attacking, bigoted way, there will be repercussions. Same as if done on orientation issues. And if someone throws out outrageous lies and vicious personal filth about someone else, they will get banned. It is very simple. One has to do a great, great deal to get banned from soxtalk. Things go on here that don't happend on other boards. That is the way it was intended. That bmr, clujer, and oldroman were banned says that they went over the line, way over the line, repeatedly, with warnings and they just picked up the pace. They wanted it, they got it. Hate speech. Not allowed. We have the frankest of exchanges here. makes soxtalk special. But hate talk - and trolling - have always been not allowed. That is part of the essence of soxtalk.
  15. That Aesop's Fable line is incredibly in your face insulting, or a sign of real intellectual challanged person on your part, or a way to push for a fight, or stupidity, or a refusal to recognise that there are any realities other than your own. You who cry for respect for your "culture" and your beliefs, and yet you say something so utterly wrong, so utterly insulting, to say something so insulting and totally, totally wrong - I expanded at a little bit of length on things - agree or disagree, to resort to the perjorative for that which you fail to understand because you can't or you refuse to, or you just like to challange others because you think you alone are right or want to brawl or whatever is it work, it is all right there. You want to be a student, I suggest that your efforts should be on trying to understand and comprehend everything that you don't know and every belief system different from your own becaause respect for others and comprehension of what tohers are saying is the beginning of what you seem to want to go to school for. I gave enough context that your line about Aesop's Fables is as incredibly insulting as could be. You have no idea what you are talking about.
  16. glad he has a job in baseball his future will just be slowed down a few years
  17. for making a quip with the Anti Mason party in it
  18. it would have to be Bush the old one because Wm S Coffin was already chaplain of Yale when G W got there I hadn't heard that but who knows with those folks but come to think of it - Wm Sloane Coffin was in US espionage before he got the call to ministry and the elder Bush was head of the CIA once
  19. Cheat, I don't believe in all the Skull and Bones conspiracy stuff but but but if it were true amazing how Kerry's candidacy got new life and wouldn't it be just like Skull& Bones to decide to oust the weakling and inept S&Ber with a competent and shall we say "ept" one If S&B is doing that, I will go along with it after all, my favorite S&Ber is the Rev William Sloane Coffin and I have been giving his latest book away right and left as a gift and he is, to quote Eminem, "no fan of Bush." I will Kerry over Bush in a heartbeat. but I don't believe that stuff
  20. this is now going in a BMR direction. I suggest that others who can, close this. I am staying out of that final decision, that is my suggestion. We have had enough of this s*** through the years and have paid a high price. Let is happen again and let the responsibiliity lie elsewhere.
  21. those are your words and not mine you advocate what I would term a fundamentalist view - whatever you term it, to claim you follow a "traditional literal historical view" is spin for a doctrine that is unsupported by 1800+ years of Christian Covenant (NT) Biblical studies. I have no clue what you really mean by "metaphorical symbolistic" but if you liken to that to fiction, then I suggest that you make the effort to read again anything I wrote in this thread. I am deeply offended that you would suggest that I view the Bible as fiction. I stated what I believe the Scriptures to be - I ran the Confession of Faith of the church body to which I belong. Look up somewhere what the confessional standpoint of "Sola Scriptura" means and that is where my confessional identity would lie. It is really insulting to suggest other. I recall a recent post where you stated your disrespect for those with MDivs and then listed a bunch of people, at least some/half of whom if not more, if not all, had no MDivs. I let that factual error go by. But the games continue. I have said all that needs to be said.
  22. and they never existed in any society - Now if the Sean Penn character in Mytsic River, either the fiction book or the fiction movie, is our role model, then we should all be ex-felons who take the law into our own hands and kill an innocent person and not own up to it, and let the widow and child never know their husband/father is dead Escaping in to a past that never was other than in story books and movies is not the solution to much of anything. This is not said to be unkind. The imagined past is so much more heroic than our own day - but it remains imagined. It was never reality. I would suggest the book Wisconsin Death Trip for those who want in words and pictures to see what it was really like in time before - it is not a work of fiction, it is a documentary of the 1890s - the enemy really is not that which "destroyed" all of the "old" values - it is a really good time for reading the book of Ecclesiastes
  23. I would love to see one piece of proof that that quote is actual, that it was ever said by anyone in the women's movement, let alone anyone at all, in the 1960s and 1970s also I would like stats on what "the entrie population of males" were that were emasculated were - since I lived throuigh that era and I have no recollection of mass emasculations let alone that of an entire population of males, I am curious as to what I missed, or didn't miss, as the case may be anyone here get emasculated back then?
