  1. that is a good line! if he gets to start regular, I think he will do very well as for your question, maybe has a high article to talent ratio for a Sox, but that is a low ratio comapred to anyone who plays on the north side or for the yankees or boston
  2. I knew you had - that is what made your joke work! for what I usually say about Michigan Ag, you added a few extra letters there... you guys getting covered in snow tonight? we are (about 50 miles NW of you) and this is off topic, but you guys played well last weekend, best game you played all season - you looked unbeatable, at long last - you sit in the Izone?

  6. actually, no - I worked out until 8 and then came home and watched MTV Road Rules vs Real World which has far more educational and veracity values than any Karl Rove production I did get the detailed analysis of the speech via BBC and NPR for about 4 hours this morning - which is why I knew what questions to ask - not that it took actually knowing what was in to speech to know what G W would avoid...
  7. what did Bush say about how this administration has captured Osama bin laden - perhaps anything on al queda - perhaps anything on the claims last years about Iraq's womd, the nuclear weapons false accusations, and being an imminent threat that were wrong -

  9. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, January 21, 2003 WHITE SOX SIGN EIGHT PLAYERS TO MINOR-LEAGUE CONTRACTS; INVITE 15 PLAYERS TO SPRING TRAINING CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on minor-league contracts with pitchers pitchers Vic Darensbourg, Mike Jackson, Robert Person and Jose Santiago, infielders Mike Bell, Kelly Dransfeldt and Bobby Smith and outfielder Marvin Benard. All eight players, in addition to seven players within the White Sox system, have received non-roster invites to the club’s spring training camp in Tucson, Ariz. Jackson, 39, was out of baseball in 2003 but is 60-67 with a 3.35 ERA (425 ER/1,141.2 IP), 142 saves and 980 strikeouts in 960 games (seven starts) over 17 major-league seasons. He combined for 79 saves with Cleveland in 1998-99 and was 2-3 with a 3.27 ERA (20 ER/55.0 IP) in 58 games with Minnesota in 2002. Person, 34, owns a 51-42 record with a 4.64 ERA (463 ER/897.1 IP) and 773 strikeouts in 206 games (135 starts) over nine major-league seasons. The right-hander was 15-7 with a 4.19 ERA (97 ER/208.1 IP) and 183 strikeouts in 33 starts with Philadelphia in 2001. Benard, 34, has spent his entire nine-year career with San Francisco, hitting .271 (714-2,630) with 54 home runs and 260 RBI. He ranks 11th among active players with 52 career pinch hits. Smith, 29, is a .232 (192-826) hitter in five major-league seasons with Tampa Bay (1998-2002). He was named to the Topps All-Rookie Team in 1998 after hitting .276 (102-370) with 11 home runs and 55 RBI and has played all four infield positions as well as the outfield during his career. Also invited to spring training is outfielder Jeremy Reed, the 2003 Topps/Minor League Baseball Player of the Year. The 22-year-old Reed combined to bat .373 (173-464) with 11 home runs, 95 RBI and 45 stolen bases between Class A Winston-Salem and Class AA Birmingham last season. His .373 average led the entire minor-league circuit and was the 11th-highest figure since 1980. Reed, the Sox second-round selection in 2002, was a member of the USA Baseball Olympic qualifying team in 2003. In addition, seven other Sox non-roster invitees have major-league experience. Bell played in 19 games with Cincinnati in 2000. Darensbourg, a left-hander, has appeared in 280 games with Florida (1998-2002), Colorado (2003) and Montreal (2003). 10. 2K3 gives good advice to call - when I met Honel he was not signed up for anything, he was just there and in the kids corner (which they do not have every year) - I have met some other minor leaguers in years past, ususally the ones most hyped - but again pay attention to who is walking around cuz I met some others that way too - just avoid RPS when he runs into ARowand...
  11. I met Kris Honel at SoxFest 2002 - he was just wandering around - I suspect that is the only way to meet the minor leaguers
  12. it was discussed a lot on NPR this morning will be interesting next time W visits with the self proclaimed steroid user governor of California
  13. good research is knowing who to ask to get what - and being on good terms so that they will do it - it is my stock in trade
  14. The Old Grey Mare, she ain't what she used to be. Beating a dead horse. A horse is a horse, of course, of course, and no one can talk to a horse, of course, unless of course it's the famous horse, talk to Mr. Ed. Go right to the source and ask the source, he'll give you the answer that you'll endorse, he's always on a steady course, talk to Mr. Ed. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Trojan horse. Horse sense. Horsing around. Dark horse. Behold the pale horse. Horse of a different color. You can bring a horse to water but you can't make it drink. My baby's face looked like a horse until I realized I got it confused with an ass. (old country song) Making this list is more fun that projecting the Sox chances in 2004.
  15. outside of me, Steff, you are best researcher ever! you may even be better than me! I salute you with pride!
  16. They do. The pity is you have no comprehension of nor respect for any viewpoint outside of your own. I don't mean that to attack you nuke. I say that because unless one can articulate the different opinions out there and understand why people have those opinions, nothing is understood. That you think that Daschle and Pelosi do not believe half of what they say, let alone all of what they say, means that you do not understand what is really felt and believed out there and that there legitimate reasons to disagree with your opinion, legitimate reasons to see things differently, that people of good inteliigence and good intent can look at things differently than you.
  17. I disagree. The American public is deeply, deeply polarized. the economy - what is a jobless recovery? Where a lot of people sit, there is no recovery. Ohio has lost 90,000 manufacturing jobs since 20 January 2001. Michigan 120,000. The deficits ever grow. In all the planning for what happens in November, do not overlook the incredible anger out there. And some will say - "not with the people I hang out with" - but that is making the personal into the universal. I am making no bets one way or another on what happens in November but I will think that those most smug now will have their smirks wiped away.
  18. there is no way that we have any idea of whether this is true or not we need to have all the contracts that have no trade clauses in them and then need to look at which teams are named - since we have no idea of what is in those contracts other than the occasional deal that surfaces, this topic is based on one huge assumption that no one knows what percentage validity it has if it has any at all
  19. since I am the premier Brady watcher here --- at least I bet I have seen him play more than anyone else here... Brady is the guy who kept Henson on the bench for 2 years and no UM fanb complained - go back and read the old posts from the super bowl two years ago where I confidently took New England over St Louis because of the existence of Tom Brady -what I said then - Brady is the one person in the world I would most want to be qb of a team that needed to score with just short time left because of his intelligence and nothing throws him, nothing scares him - since I am on record as saying that before that Super Bowl, I can still pat myself on the back for calling how that game ended no one wins every game and who the hell is the best ever, if there is one, and there isn't - different eras call for different skills - compare Brady to Montana? Way too soon. Two more Super Bowl wins are needed before we do that. And Super Bowl wins alone aren't the sole measure of the Super Bowl era qb - Bradshaw won 4 and he is not the best ever... But no question Brady is a better qb than Manning and no question that in a list of premier qbs today Brady has to be on the select list and no question that IF Brady wins this next one and keeps it all going, that he deserves to be considered among the best ever - but those are big IFs.
  20. those things are always extraordinarily technical - one can have a headache forever translating that stuff into english good work, by the way...
  21. and while Ty is not in his maize and blue here, still doubt the Patriots? another of UM's finest says, go with the Pats
  22. all you need to know before you place your bets
  23. going against the Patriots is done at one's own peril
